What's wrong with Boden?

I love Boden, but either get labelled a hooray or a middle aged, middle class and boring. Is this a city dweller thing? I don't get it.

Sleeves are never long enough for me, and tops tend to hover about 2 inches above my belly button. So not an attractive look. Think they are made for shortarses with no tits.

DD1 used to go to Montessori Nursery in Saaaarf Landan and ALL the mummies and kiddiwinks wore Boden. It was like a kind of uniform. The mummies didn't speak to me either - apparently on my first day I committed the cardinal sin of standing on the side of the steps that the nannies stood on . Also didn't wear Boden or have floppy Sloaney hair.

love ot, buy it for dd she is dressed in swathes of it.
But I sell it on on ebay usually, have been known to get more for something than I paid for it!!!
I also buy it second hand, I love the non candy pink ness of it, and no one up here in the Wolds rural peace wears it really
It doesn't fit me that well but one or two key plain things I really do like
And I do let dd get mucky in them as they wash really well, nothing vanish oxi doesn't fix

piffle · 11/10/2005 22:53

dh made me go to George at Asda the other day to wean me off Boden.
I was pleasantly surprised and came away with two tops that look divine with her Boden trousers
I am odd, I trawl second hand shops or shop at Boden
I'm not middle class at all, I drink beer ,play Kaiser cheifs really loud in the car while waiting for ds to come out of school and plently of other very non middle class habits I don't have too... like a job LOL

have just started buying dd boden stuff.Love how different it looks.Just so bored of the same old high street stuff-colours all the same.Monsoons kids stuff lovely but expensive considering i find their stuff inpractical-doesn't wash well.
Feel less guilt about boden prices since observing most boden stuff on ebay going for almost original price! Will definately sell them on!!

"I honestly cannot see the point in spending £27 or £30 (sorry, HMC, horses for courses and all that but I think that is exhorbitant) on a skirt for dd"

But wigwambam - they aren't £27 or £30. They are £18!

WigWamBam · 12/10/2005 11:02

They start at £18 - and to get one of those to fit my dd it would cost £20. I was looking at some stuff from their previous collection when I saw the £27 - £30 skirts; maybe they haven't got them in the current collection but they have certainly had them at that price in the not-too-distant past. It's one of the reasons that I haven't bothered looking at the up-to-date collection - I know that they charge prices that I'm not prepared to pay. OK - so this season is cheaper than other seasons have been. I'm still not prepared to pay that kind of money for a skirt for a 4 year old.

Go on - call me a tightwad and a cheapskate but if I can buy 4 skirts in H&M or Zara for the price of one skirt in Boden, then I know where I prefer to spend my money!

CountessDracula · 12/10/2005 11:04

oi piffle I am mc and I drink beer and play Kaiser Chiefs at TOP volume in the car

so ner

I only buy boden in the sale, ffs i bought a pair of tights that were £14 pre sale!! Who would spend £14 on a pair of tights? I think they were £3 when I got them

handlemecarefully · 12/10/2005 11:06

I wouldn't dare to presume to call you a tightwad!

No, what you say is fair enough! I think I am fundamentally lazy when it comes to shopping and like the convenience of mail order with the quality assured....

WigWamBam · 12/10/2005 11:10

Oh, I'm a tightwad and I know it agree wholeheartedly about the convenience of mail-order - it's just that dd goes through clothes so quickly that it's a real waste of money to pay so much for them - she was in age 6 clothes for about three months and now into age 7 (and she's 4, for heaven's sake!), and I balk at paying that sort of price for something that I'm not sure she's going to get any wear from.

moondog · 12/10/2005 11:12

Boden is great!
Bought stacks of stuff there over the last 5 years for all four of us.
Well made, lasts a loooooong time, fantastic service, prompt deliveries. What is there not to like???

I hate trawling around shops (no time anyway) and live in a fairly rural location,so once you factor in the time, energy and petrol it would take to go to Chester (nearest big town) for a good old shopping spree,it certainly compares costwise.

I also buy in Asda (great girls'stuff) Matalan,New Look and all the other places mentioned. Some of my/our best stuff is from charity shops.

Mind you,am a bit bored with Boden now....I think it's that really nice-but-dim commentary and the fact that things look a little safe.

I am liking Joe Brown catalogue very much at the mo....

Bozza · 12/10/2005 16:22

Err, the price?
