what the hell do I wear?

Terrified about just how fat I'm going to look. Was shredding before I got pg but back problems have already worsened since I found out I was upduffed so am loath to do any more in case I really hurt myself.

So am just feeling bloated and have a horrible feeling I will have an unattractive fat tum for this dinner but it will be a bit early for chatting about it to strangers who will probably be asking when I'm due....

Boobs are 34 DD but will prob increase soon as I find I'm eating to stop myself feeling ill.

Any thoughts? Isabella oliver looks good - safe to order the week before I go to allow for returns if sizing is crap?

my current soundtrack is "I wish I was a little bit taller".... am so excited about this trip but dreading all the shiny glamourous women who are going to make me feel like crap....

Do you live in NYC?

If not I would take something safe that you already have but aim to buy something when you arrive. NYC will have a much better choice for size 16 and best of it it will only say 12 on the label!!!

painfullyhonest · 31/01/2011 19:47

no I don't live there. Event is on Monday and we arrive 2 days before. I don't know NYC at all so slightly scared about where to begin looking - do you have any suggestions for shops where they won't sneer at fat people?

At size 16 you will not be seen as fat in new York!

I would go to a decent department store - I like bloomingdales but there are loads. Someone else will know more.

HettyAmaretti · 31/01/2011 19:54

What Change said.

Maternity spanx might help you feel a bit better? Normal ones are actually fine to wear, but horribly uncomfortable, I'd think.

painfullyhonest · 31/01/2011 19:56

am looking at bloomies online now. the dresses don't look ideal - lots in white/cream that look a bit weddingy to me. Will continue to investigate!

Do you know whereabouts: either restaurant or district your eating. Will have a big bearing on what people wear.

painfullyhonest · 31/01/2011 19:59

yes was thinking about the spanx, have some and some m&s ones which aren't quite so vicelike.

I have a gorgeous dress I got at new year, but I don't think it's evening enough.
Trying to find a link to it now.

corporate do, will probably be around 600 people, so I imagine a big hotel or something like that.

Am I supposed to be looking for maternity wear?

This http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Maternity-Layered-Sleeve-Shift-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1378059&cid=8343&Rf-300=1370&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Black LBD is great and in the sale, you'd have to really stick your bump out though. Short on the model but she's 5'11".

HettyAmaretti · 31/01/2011 20:06

here

painfullyhonest · 31/01/2011 20:09

hetty, not sure how well that would work with big boobs? I'm thinking best to show a modest bit of cleavage and wear a nice necklace to distract from tum?

No idea how much tum I will have but am assuming there will be a little bit and that I'll be feeling self conscious so want to wear something to make me feel attractive in spite of tum!

OP posts:
HettyAmaretti · 31/01/2011 20:11

Oh, missed the boobs. No, no good at all.

SickOnMyShoulder · 31/01/2011 20:23

Maybe a winter smart A-line skirt like this? with a drapey dark colored top, here? New york is cold so you can wear with mega high shoe boots and black tights, and possibly keep the pregnancy underwraps till you get home

painfullyhonest · 31/01/2011 20:26

SOMS - it will be a sit down dinner - I am thinking I'll have to wear a dress.... tks for suggestions tho! I am a bit scared of the skirt Blush

HettyAmaretti · 31/01/2011 20:49

this? Formal but good drape.

long sleeves and V, also good drape.

painfullyhonest · 31/01/2011 21:10

nice, will try on tmw, could be good.

Did you mange to find something?

CarolinaRua · 02/02/2011 11:05

Why not go to Diane Von Furstenburg and buy a wrap dress, Im not normally a fan but they are flattering to a curvy figure and are much cheaper in the US.

At 8 weeks on your 1st baby you shouldnt be in Maternity wear and shouldnt be showing either so you should be safe to go with normal wear.

CarolinaRua · 02/02/2011 11:06

Sorry I realised its yuor 2nd, still wouldnt go maternity but would go drapey on the tummy

painfullyhonest · 03/02/2011 19:39

Hetty - went to LKB, did find a couple of nice dresses, tho will defo need some Spanx Blush as tummy is incredibly wobbly.

Am feeling quite round - am secretly terrified it's twins. I'm sure now I've said it it won't come true, right?

Basically, right now I feel like people would definitely be wondering if I was pg if they saw me in something fitted.

and I made a mistake on dates - I'm about 6/7 wks now so I'll be around 10 weeks when I go.
Did I mention that I can't stop eating?

HettyAmaretti · 04/02/2011 09:42

Ah, glad you found something! Any chance or a link ?

I felt massive very quickly with my second pregnancy, was scared to death it was twins but it wasn't. I had a real little bump by about 8 weeks (but squishy) after that it didn't get much bigger again until 14 weeks or so, just filled/firmed up Hmm

painfullyhonest · 04/02/2011 16:13

the one I liked is here

and another similar with long sleeves.

Just discovered that the dinner is at the Metropolitan Museum of Art!!!!! bloody hell. No pressure then.

Have decided to just try and wait till the week we go to choose a dress, thankfully there are a few good maternity shops round here as I live in the babymaking epicentre of the universe.
