Wedding Dress for my mother

Sort of ubermumsnet fashionista request here. My lovely mother is getting married. I'm thrilled and have been designated as helper to find the frock.

A very very small registry office ceremony - family only. She's 67, 5'1, petite. Very stylish - - slightly boho theatrical dress sense, but can easily look swamped in some outfits. She wears a lot of Jigsaw stuff, and some designer whose name I have entirely forgotten.

The best I've found so far is this in blue - (not sure about the jacket but I like the dress). It may be too structured for her - although she has a terrific figure she often goes for slightly more floaty dresses.

Any other suggestions would be terrific. A budget of £200 to £300. Well, she said £200 to be honest. So nearer there.

That is absolutely beautiful! I'd wear it myself, but it would be beautiful on your Mum's agegroup too.

When I clicked on the link I was expecting something like Penny wore, when she married Vince?! you know, unflattering suit and a little white hat!

No other suggestions but I can bump your thread at least?!

trumpton · 13/01/2011 08:55

I agree it's wonderful.

MilliONaire · 13/01/2011 10:21

That is a fabulous dress! She will be so elegant and stylish in that! well done, I am not sure you will find nicer than that!!

My stepmother had the most beautiful dress made for her wedding to my father. It was a pewter colour, and absolutely beautiful. I've no idea how much it cost but she told me it was a fraction of the cost of "traditional" wedding dresses. My stepmother said she was old enough to know exactly what dress would flatter her best, and boy, did this one do that! It was amazing!

She had it made by a local dressmaker. Would this be something worth considering?

smeraldina · 15/01/2011 08:23

I don't think the time frame will allow something being made llareggub....Many thanks for all your feedback. She's ordered the dress for a try-on. Any other options still gratefully received!

trumpton · 15/01/2011 09:01

www.jacques-vert.co.uk/en/floral-shantung-dress-71322 And this with matching jacket ?? Sorry seem to be expensive but might be available in sale from other places.

smeraldina · 15/01/2011 22:26

Right - the frock was no good. Apparently clung in the wrong places, and the jacket was completely wrong. She's very slim but it clung around the stomach in a not good way, reportedly.

Trumpton thank you so much but I think the first one is too conventional/classic for her, and might swamp her lengthwise, and the second one also doesn't have that slight boho edge that I think she needs. The reason I went for the blue one was the gold bit made it a bit more her style - but I'd ignored the shape factor.

This is harder than I thought...!

I quite like the malt ripple one on the jacques vert website. You could pair it with a fabulous colourful wrap to embrach her boho style and either go classic or bright coloured for hat shoess and bag.

Is these too dark, or too short, or too conservative? Probably are, but I'll post em anyways.
