Obviuously they vary more than I thought - perhaps it is related to size. Though in South Kensington one which is small, which I go to every few weeks I'd also say they are helpful not pushy.

lololizzy · 23/12/2010 23:26

Kingston a bit pushy, if not buying i tend not to linger for long as feel uncomfortable. If am buying, they try to sell me other things - wonder if they're on commission? Don't get me wrong..nice women..but i was a retail manager for years and knew to leave people for the first few minutes so as not to appear too sales-pitchy

polyhymnia · 24/12/2010 10:18

If you're ever in Richmond, try the one there - as I said, haven't found them pushy. In fact have had a few good makeovers (By Terry, Laura Mercier) and, when I only buy one instead of all of the products used afterwards, they seem to accept that quite happily, without further pressing to buy. Perhaps, as they know me, they know I'll be back again anyway to buy something (though not usually loads of expensive things) before too long !

pagwatch · 24/12/2010 10:57

I am over 40 and i never get ignored in there.

I always get approached but if I smile and say 'just having a look thanks, ' they bugger off. I prefer that to the ones who approach and try to start open ended conversations with you.

I have been in the situation where I have got to the till and they said ' that is x squillion pounds please '. I just say ' I didn't realise it was that much, I am not spending that today' and put it back.
No one should be embarrassed about finding something too expensive. And if the worst came to the worst theybwill take returns.

I sound like I am on commission don't I.
But i do like them since they patiently gave me free smiles until I found a product for my flared up skin, they gave me enough make up to last me two weeks when I had run out and my account was hacked and they used to lift dd up and help her try lip glosses on like she was a grown up customer.she loved it

Cyb · 24/12/2010 10:58

I dont really trust places where I ahve to have my specs on to see the prices

ThisIsYourSong · 24/12/2010 11:14

Cyb - late reply sorry, Boots stock Urban Decay in the bigger stores, but they have a big collection online and you can get it sent to store. Urban Decay do the BEST mineral makeup.

I love Space NK, not really noticed the small stores - the ones I have been into have been a good size. Agree on some of the ridiculous prices though...

cpbp · 24/12/2010 12:02

I havent been back there since a horrible experience at the Cheapsid branch a few years ago near xmas. One assistant there- early morning who literally stuck herself to me. It was sooo annoying. I was in the mood to splurge a bit but her attitude put me right off. Decided to treat myself to the Eve Lom cleanser which I hadnt bought for yonks. Saleswoman of the year told me I had to buy the cloth separately. I thought they must have stopped supplying them so bought it and then saw, that as per usual, it was included when I got home" Bought the cloth back for a refund. She was by far and away the worst sales assistant I have ever come across. Compare with the lovely unpushy assistant at a certain shoe shop who was happy to let folk browse but v knowledgeable when you had any questions. Result: I always bought a couple of pairs of footwear. Why are we so bad at sales? I am so glad that Gap have stopped "pouncing" when you go in. Rant over!

Merry Xmas all!!

mippy · 24/12/2010 12:11

polyhymnia Bloomsbury is my 'local' as well. I'm still astounded they're stocking Lime Crime products - partly because they're a strange choice for that market, and partly because the eyeshadows are repackaged base products at a massive massive mark-up.

mippy · 24/12/2010 12:12

Oooh, I was in The Body Shop at Euston a few days ago with time to kill before a train, and I think I was 'pounced' upon about five times in ten minutes.

MayorNaze · 24/12/2010 12:32

yes it was Trace - i will be going back for another go - my mac makes me look orange in the cold light of snow day :(

anyone fancy a makeup swap thread?

mippy - agree about Lime Crime - most odd. No sign of them in Richmond!

mippy · 24/12/2010 15:24

There's a lot of dirt on that brand on the internet. Richmond is too Margo Leadbetter for blue lipstick, I'd have thought - I get the bus over sometimes to shop and it's devoid of fashion forward teens.

polyhymnia · 24/12/2010 15:51

Yes, you're right (though don't think I'm a Margo ... ). Maybe that's why they are so nice in Space NK. It does have Comptoir des Cotoniers and Zadig and Voltaire, though. Not to mention Matches for those that have the £££ - hardly teens, by and large.

mippy · 24/12/2010 16:43

It also has a pocket-sized White Stuff. I sometimes go there to shop when I'm too lazy to go all the way to Kingston (and can never be arsed with Westfield).

There is Jack Wills there which I Do Not Understand. My milltown dwelling nephews seem to dress mostly in tracksuits as do their friends, so my knowledge of the Sloane Next is minimal.

lololizzy · 24/12/2010 17:22

Lime Crime def in Kingston. FAB lippies!

catinthehat2 · 24/12/2010 17:28

Lime Crime story one version
thanks for that, a really cracking read!

I have never bought anything much in SpaceNK, but will vouch for their supernice staff.

mippy · 24/12/2010 18:56

I find the lippies to be a bit crap on, but one of them looks so lovely in the tube. I never find a lippie I get on with properly though...

VinoNavegado · 24/12/2010 21:18

Lime Crime on Fenchurch Street but only tiny display. I love space nk but some of the branches are pushy (Kingston can be a little bit), others are great and leave you alone til you look like you need help. Can be very damaging to bank balance but I do love some of their products.

lololizzy · 24/12/2010 23:03

havent actually tried the Lime crimes, just being shallow to love the pretty packaging! why are they crap on? the colours ?

FellatioNelson · 26/12/2010 09:55

Is it a clear lotion that is supposed to make your eye wrinkles disappear instantly? I think Isaw something a a French pharmarcy that did that and may have involved snakes.

JJ · 26/12/2010 10:47

Snake serum - no reviews on Makeupalley but one of M or E at Facegoop mentioned it in a roundabout way once, I think.

I love the Bishopsgate and Islington shops, the CW one is ok, too but have never had any luck in the Marylebone one. Tiny and snooty!

I find the creams and potions work better if you believe in them [happy with placebo effect emoticon] Wink.

polyhymnia · 26/12/2010 10:52

My local Space NK gave me a sample of that Rodial serum, but the picture of the snake on the sachet put me off trying it rather pathetically!

JJ · 26/12/2010 12:44

You have to try it and report back, poly! Please, it's for the greater good.

polyhymnia · 26/12/2010 17:25

Oh dear, hate to say this but I clearly recall throwing it away - v. unusual for me, but if they must put images of green fanged serpents on the sachets what do they expect? May try and ask for another though as I have something to exchange in Space NK when they re-open.

LynetteScavo · 26/12/2010 17:31

I've never been in, because I don't know want I want, but do know I'm sure to come out £220 poorer.

Since when did I become someone how was too scared to go into a shop? Confused

I might make it my new years resolution to go in with a focused mind.
