Ridiculously dry hands - help!

Any recs for handcream - or anything else?

I'm desperate - can barely type, they're so cracked and bleeding.

Mine get like this. This sounds mad, but slap on the good old Vaseline and get some cotton gloves from the chemist. I do the vaseline before bed, and wear the gloves all night. It works :)
FWIW, try to avoid soaps, and wool gloves both of these make mine worse, would be worth checking out what your 'triggers' are.

Try the Flexitol one. I bought some for my friend and it sorted out her v sore and cracked chef's hands.

Buy several and leave them in various places so that you've always got one to hand too.

Was told by a neonatal nurse recently bodyshop hemp hand cream, not had a chance to try it out myself yet but she had to wash her hands ALOT.

I get very dry hands and the L'Occitane shea butter one is fabulous, really sorts them out.

Though someone on another thread said the find Pure Nuff Stuff one to be better.

The body shop hemp really is marvellous stuff- 3 days ago my knuckles were so dry they had all cracked and were bleeding in parts, was horrible and painful. I was alternating between L'Occitane and Clarins which have always been fine for my dryish hands- neither seemed to make much difference this time. BS Hemp has totally sorted them out, I can't believe they are the same hands!

Hemp stuff is wonderful, but it is definitely worth investing in the cotton gloves MrsShrek mentioned. You'll be amazed at the difference. The most moisturising cream I ever tried is the Clinique Deep Comfort Body Butter. DH was spreading grit and salt on the driveway with his bare hands last night and came back home with chapped hands. The butter sorted it out immediately.

Neutrogena is really good too - just the original 'norwegian formula' one, it's pretty much just glycerine and you only need a tiny dab. I agree with buying a few tubes (it's cheap) and leave one by each sink so you don't forget - and one in your handbag.

heard great things about the neutrogena - but it doesn't work at all for me.

Maybe the trick is to try out a few of the recommendations and see what works for you.

I had the same sandpaper hands last week and tried on Mumsnet recommendation the Body Shop Hemp Cream and it is fantastic.
Also tried Garnier moisture lock.

I agree the BS Hemp cream is fantastic.

MIL is a home care worker so has to wash her hands a lot and swears by Snowfire when she gets cracked bleeding hands.

My ds has phases of sucking his top lip until it is chapped and sore and the pharmacist also recommended Snowfire. It stinks but it does the job in a night! :)

It is amazing and doesn't make your hands feel yuck/greasy.

I usually use Elizabeth Arden 8 hour hand cream which I think is great, but have used Lansinoh on my cracked knuckles this week and it's worked a treat.

This could be the answer for DPs sore, chapped knuckles. Can anyone recommend where I can get cheap cotton gloves pls?

Hemp cream is fantastic and I love the smell too.

BS Hemp does nothing for mine. Lansinoh in the cracks at bedtime is very good, and if things get very bad spread it all over and wear cottoen gloves. Got mine in Body Shop but they weren't particularly cheap. Maybe try Poundland?

I also like the Bodyshop Almond one in a tube and Rescue version of the same in a tub for overnight.

Neutrogena is good too. I have about 7 or 8 tubes of various things scattered around the house/handbag.

For lips I swear by Blisteze (Blistex I think it is called now) and have just bought Lush Ultrabalm which has sorted out DS's chapped skin around mouth in a few days. It is also really helping dry patches on my face.

Finally, wear gloves every time you go out in this weather.

Another vote for Nuetrogena here and for having it next to every sink, in your handbag and on your desk at work. I used to work in a box factory when i was a student(many moons ago) and my hands were permanently cracked, bleedy and agony until I found Nuetrogena. I had tried BS hemp and Clarins too but Nuetrogena was the one that worked for me.

I'd be interested to see if sudocrem worked though. I always forget about it and it does seem like magic cream and cheap too. Definitely worth a shot.

Avoid soap too - use a moisturising hand wash.

Or the norwegian formula neutrogena also works for my skin too.

You could ask for a few as stocking fillers this year and run a trial? Let us know!!

Diprobase is fantastic but not sure if you can buy it as have it on prescription. It was used in NNU with all the handwashing.

oh this has reminded me, i used sudocrem on a burn i had on the thin skin on the back of my hand, it really helped relieve the heat and then the itching while it healed, stopped it cracking round the blisters/scab. Add it to your list....

have had awfully dry hands of late, and have been using the E45 cream we have for DS1. It has worked like a dream and was prob about a quid or summit from boots.

And I do like my clarins etc, so is a revelation
