Lands End Chevron Down Coat

Have to admit that, first I'm very, very urban and my idea of a winter coat is the lovely fitted grey wool Italian one I bought in Milan this autumn, paired with a trendy and beautiful scarf. Also, I'm not a Land's End fan in general and in fact put them on my 'all mumsy' list.

BUT the present and expected weather have made me think it might actually be a good plan to have a more casual warm coat for less urban activities, eg walks in the park, trips to the local shops etc - even going in to college in London when weather foul.

My eye has fallen on the Land End chevron down coat, partly because they have 20% off everyting till end today, and also because it does at least seem to be cut with a waist, which I prefer. I'm already large and would like to avoid the Michelin man look.

Has anyone got this, please, and, if so, opinions on it?

I don't have the coat but do have the parka. It, too, is cut to give definition to the waist (although as I am normally carrying a baby in a sling I can't say I notice....). I really like it: it is very warm and cosy, not that wet-look fabric (a bug bear of mine) and wipe clean (unlike my £££ wool coat that now needs dry cleaning after my DCs coated it in snot and sick at a Christening on Sunday). So, worth the money IMO especially with discount. And you can always send it back if you don't like it.

I don't have that coat but just wanted to say I share your pain I too gave in and brought a lands end coat for dog walking watching the boys play football and rugby and for the park. Stylish it might not be but it's warm waterproof and snugly

I have the coat in sapphire. It's quite a slim fit so it's fairly flattering as a duvet coat goes and it seems more substantial than a Uniqlo down one I have.
Tested it out yesterday (in the back garden)in preparation for the snow and didn't feel the slightest bit cold (only 7 degrees though).
The hood is absolutely huge and warm but removable.

Well worth it with the reduction. It's not glam but when it's that cold, who cares.

morag - all very encouraging - thanks. I've ordered it in sapphire. The weather today even in London suburbs convinces me this should be a wise buy.

Ordered it, sent it back. The faux fur looked cheap and nasty and I rustled when I moved. Also it puffed out more and more as you moved and I looked like a hippo. The brown wasn't as nice as expected either. Was disappointed and am now cold.

I just looked to see what mine is called and its the squall parka, not too thickly padded and has drawstring at waist so you don;t look too much like a sack of spuds.

Thanks I might try that style as an alternative if I look like a hippo in the chevron one!!

It is really warm and snuggly, although it doesn't look fitted, it definitely is.

Although having said that, it really is so warm that I wouldn't care.

I got one a few years ago. I love it.

I have nice coats too, and I wear them in preference to a sleeping bag coat... but there are days when it's just too cold not to be warm

Have it in the sapphire too. I am also not a Lands End fan - wouldn't be seen dead in anything else they do!! But this is a lovely warm coat and I think it is flattering too. Fab for the school run...

me neither, they send me their catalogue every season. I don't even look at it. If I needed another warm coat in a few years though I might go back to them. I really feel the cold AND I hate being cold. Sometimes I can't believe looking at what other people are wearing that htey're not freezing. I don't get it.

I have the squall parka too. It definitely is not what you'd call fashionable but it's really warm and snug. And it's got about a hundred pockets. Which is handy. But does make you bulge in unlikely places ...

I've got the chevron down coat in black.

It is SOOOO warm. I love it even though it is (a bit) daggy

BTW - I bought really nice warm hoodies for my DSs from Landsend (they hate wearing coats). They are lined with lamby-type stuff on the body and fleece on the arms, so very warm but not too bulky

don't forget Lands End is americann hence the large sizes.
