Lands End Chevron Down Coat

polyhymnia · 24/11/2010 11:11

Have to admit that, first I'm very, very urban and my idea of a winter coat is the lovely fitted grey wool Italian one I bought in Milan this autumn, paired with a trendy and beautiful scarf. Also, I'm not a Land's End fan in general and in fact put them on my 'all mumsy' list.

BUT the present and expected weather have made me think it might actually be a good plan to have a more casual warm coat for less urban activities, eg walks in the park, trips to the local shops etc - even going in to college in London when weather foul.

My eye has fallen on the Land End chevron down coat, partly because they have 20% off everyting till end today, and also because it does at least seem to be cut with a waist, which I prefer. I'm already large and would like to avoid the Michelin man look.

Has anyone got this, please, and, if so, opinions on it?

JAMie - what size are oyu top and bottom in say.. marks sizes.. tell and what coat size have you

JamieLeeCurtis · 24/11/2010 20:04

I'm a 10 in M&S, sometimes a 12 bottom depending on the style. I'm 5 ft 3. I got the XS (Petite) in Landsend - actually I would have got the S but they had sold out (last year). It fits pretty well but the sleeves are just a tiny bit short.

So I'd say they come up a bit big

Lemonsole · 24/11/2010 20:04

I have the chevron down parka in aubergine, and I love it. It is really toasty, very flattering in its fit and keeps my bum warm while not catching in my bike chain.

moragbellingham · 24/11/2010 20:53

I'm exactly the same as Jamie and got the S (but not the colour I wanted!). It fits me perfectly with slight room for layers - not that you would want any.
It's definitely an American small as I don't do UK small in anything at all these days.

ValiumSingleton · 24/11/2010 21:28

Thermal underwear! yeah, I should re-investigate that. I used to wear that to school. I must get one again. I hate feeling that I've been 'jumpered' from mid nov to mid march but that's the way it is most years.

ValiumSingleton · 24/11/2010 21:30

op, i'm a 10-12 and i got the small petite coat and it's just right. I can, if I really need to, still fit a big chunky cardigan under the coat. If you are 10-12 and get xs you might not manage that.

Mind you, it is warm. properly warm, it makes other coats in your wardrobe seem like a bit of a joke.

Pannacotta · 24/11/2010 23:07

Before I order one of these, can anyone tell me how shiny the material is?
Have a bit of an allergy to shiny down coats...
Thanks

JamieLeeCurtis · 25/11/2010 08:06

Not shiny at all (black one)

CheeseCheese · 25/11/2010 08:19

gah am 12 - 14
small will be way too small

Pannacotta · 25/11/2010 14:18

Thanks JamieLee, they didnt have my size in the end so couldnt order anyway!
Am on the lookout for an alternative now!

The Lands End chevron coat has arrived and so far I'm pleased. Sapphire colour is good, reasonably subtle - had been thinking it might be a nasty cheap-looking navy. Like the length and 2-way zip - these are really useful. Also the quite slim cut, and the angle of the chevrons make it more flattering and less Michelin man-like than I'd feared. Am about to test it out on trip to shops.

Bit worried about the tumble drying with tennis balls bit, though - specially as I don't even possess a tumble dryer !

Mumsnut · 27/11/2010 12:58

Just squash 'em in, Cheese.

ValiumSingleton · 27/11/2010 13:16

glad i have mine today. going to risk venturing outside now.

too small on the bust not so frumpy. It'll sex it up a tiny wee bit. I do look like I've been completely anoraked in mine. Any trace of the female form obliterated entirely. but hell in this weather who cares.

brimfull · 27/11/2010 13:28

no to squashing in
saw woman at school with squashed boobs in down coat
looked dire

CheeseCheese · 27/11/2010 16:42

no am returning
god i LOVE IT

Mumsnut · 01/12/2010 09:32

OK, at least I have got mine in my shopping bag. Now, before I pay, IS THERE A CODE??

moragbellingham · 01/12/2010 10:09

MN for Land's End or somewhere else?

Mumsnut · 01/12/2010 10:58

Land's End! I am holding out little hope though, Morag. All those 20% off codes and nothing in my size - then as soon as it comes in, nada.
