brunette's with fair skin - what colours suit you?

I'm blonde at the moment but considering changing my hair to medium brown for the winter. I've done it before and found that I had to change the colour theme of my wardrobe to suit my new colouring.

At the moment my wardrobe is mostly made up of grey, navy blue, and neutral colours like beige, baby pink, browns etc. I'm just wondering if dying my hair will mean buying a whole new wardrobe too!

yep, i am brunette with fair skin and neutral colours make me draberama.

i wear green, blue, red

AmpleBosom · 04/11/2010 12:01

Bright jewel colours like emerald green etc, black, navy and white

BelleDameAvecBroomstick · 04/11/2010 12:11

I'm very dark haired with very fair skin. I tend to go for bright colours too. Anything pastel or neutral makes me disappear.

sweetheart · 04/11/2010 12:13

Hmm this is what I was worried about!

Does navy blue work ok?

I can't wear pale colours at all.
I wear a lot of blues, and black. Red (but must be the right shade). Orange is out. Green is good, but not too pale or too grey.
I die in grey.

BunnyLebowski · 04/11/2010 12:16

I'm a very dark brunette with Irish pale skin.

Pastels and neutrals make me look like a bag o' crap. White is terrible on me and black (apart from lbd's) drains me completely.

Best colours on me are red, purple, pink, blue and green. As Ample has said the 'jewel' colours.

Faaamily · 04/11/2010 12:18

Vivid greens, blues, red, plus some of the richer autumnal colours (russetts, golds, caramels) suit me. I'm a fair skinned, blue eyed brunette.

Colours I avoid - white, grey, beige, pastels, purple, pink.

Black is fine if I have one stand-out, colourful thing like a scar or bit of jewellery.

pinkmagic1 · 04/11/2010 12:19

Agree, bright colours are best and I look dead in black! My best colours are red and green, Khaki green really suits me too.

sweetheart · 04/11/2010 12:22

oh bugger - I think I'm going to have to reconsider, I just can't get excited about wearing jewel colours!

I have that colouring and I wear a lot of neutrals...grey, white and black look good! Sometimes I add a bit of red...but not much...a necklace or whatnot.

MrsDinky · 04/11/2010 12:29

Nothing yellowish, no orange, olive green etc. Turqoise, cerise. Denim blue ok but not navy. Darker browns OK, use white, black, beige for layers but not all over. Def no baby colours, pale pinks, blues etc.

I'm a light/mid brown with fair skin, but rosy cheeks. Earthy greens and browns, aquas and ligher blues are good.

Red makes me look flushed and too much black makes me look dowdy and ill.

Absolutely no yellows!

knomedeplum · 04/11/2010 14:11

I can't wear brown or neutral - i tend to wear light grey, bright turquoise blues, raspberry pinks and lime green - kind of citrus type colours really - all tend to work well with dark greys and navys

annoyingdevil · 04/11/2010 14:11

Bright colours, Bright red , with orange rather than blue undertones. light grey, warm brown, absolutely no pastels or dark grey. Pastel pink is quite possibly the most hideous for us!

Ingles2 · 04/11/2010 14:14

I've got very dark hair and eyes and pale skin...
I can do, strong reds, greens and blues, browns, black, grey, white
no yellow, wishy washy or pastels.

jamaisjedors · 04/11/2010 14:14

agree, jewel colours, anything "deep".

Actually I had my colours done when I was blond-ish and still got told to wear these colours, they look even better on me now I have reverted to brown hair.

jamaisjedors · 04/11/2010 14:14

Navy is good though

LittlebearH · 04/11/2010 14:21

Depends on your eyes.

I am dark haired with pale skin but blue eyes and green and orange looks awful on me.
No mustard, too much cream or peach either.

The following all look good:
Navy
Black
Beige
Dark pink
Baby pink
Baby Blue
Grey
Brown
white
Red

sweetheart · 04/11/2010 14:33

I've got light blue eyes

MrsMeow · 04/11/2010 14:36

Bright colours for me too, mixed in with black. No no's for me are baby pink, pastels, beige, cream is ok, but not all over.

jamaisjedors · 04/11/2010 15:14

I have navy blue eyes.

Look into the whole "colours" thing.

Rhian82 · 04/11/2010 15:20

I have pale blue eyes, and wear a lot of autumn colours - red, green, brown.

ladylush · 04/11/2010 20:30

I'm dark brown with very fair skin and blue/grey eyes. Grey suits me a lot but I wear turquoise, purple and navy too. I can't wear citrus colours (but get to put dd in them - yay!) I look ok in black if it's a going out dress etc but generally on a day to day basis it can look rather drab on me.
I love bright red but can't wear it Sad
