The ultimate moisturiser....

stainesmassif · 03/11/2010 22:21

Is there such a thing? My skin is starting to .... mature. I've tried a few but can't really tell the difference between my moisturised face and the one that 38 years has given me.

I don't mind spending on something that gives results, but am not necessarily a brand snob either. Currently using olay regenerist but can't bear the smell.

What's really good?

I like Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream.

muggglewump · 03/11/2010 22:29

I love Garnier Ultralift.
I was in hospital for a week, and looked a wee bit like a prune.
This has sorted me out.
It's rehydrating, without being too slimy.

I look great now, really.
No one can believe I was ever ill!

stainesmassif · 03/11/2010 22:31

Oooh hf. You're sophisticated! Is it good? Does it last long? Do people think you're 24?

OP posts:
stainesmassif · 03/11/2010 22:34

Muggle - what's it smell like? Again, do you look 24? I had lovely skin at 24.....youth wasted on the young etc etc.

muggglewump · 03/11/2010 22:44

It's just like a nice subtle smell.
I love it, it makes me look normal!

And yes, I do keep being told I look far younger than I am.

I was wandering down the hospital corridor when it was said, 'who's that kid'?, and the Nurse said, 'That's an adult and she'll not be happy with that'!

My fault really, I did insist on wearing kids jamas but they are comfy.

I love looking younger. I hate being treated younger.

ghoulishglendawhingesagain · 03/11/2010 23:03

I really love the Elemis one too, but it is just too expensive. My skin is very dry, it is v soothing on and very light feeling, feels like it won't be rich enough but it suits all skin types AFAIK.

It smells lovely. Gorgeous texture. Sometimes on offer at QVC.

I am using clinique at the moment but I'm not mad about it and don't like the texture.

Not tried the garnier yet but got a set upstairs that was a freebie with magazine subscriptionBlush

GetOrfMoiLand · 03/11/2010 23:06

Kiehls Abyssine. It has a very high spf and smells luverly.

Get ye to Space NK.

Mind you, I use Waitrose Baby Butter every night and that has made my skin ultra smooth.

Just lost long post.

Roary God,what a fright.

Good sequins at All Saints. Tavi dress??

No time to link!

stainesmassif · 04/11/2010 07:01

GOML - now if that doesn't sound like a good reason to visit Richmond, I don't know what does.
Hf - are you speaking hybrid sophisticate language? I'd love to see what thread that last comment was meant for!

Muggle - I used to have people exclaiming 'no, you never are' when I told them my age but sadly, post ds, not so much.

I swear by Neal's Yard. The orange blossom night cream and rose facial wash and day cream have transformed my skin (like yours it had rather suddenly started to age). They are v spenny but you truly use less, so they last for ages. And they smell divine.

Rose 'serum' was a total waste of a lot of money though, as far as my skin is concerned!

aquavit · 04/11/2010 12:39

0h and also I use waitrose baby bottom butter with a muslin for OCM at night, that's done wonders too

moragbellingham · 04/11/2010 13:48

stainesmassif same here. My friends and I all looked younger than our age by at least 5 years. Post DC I look my age, if not olderSad.
Tiredness, dehydration and bad diet.

I tried the red olay regenerist serum and really liked the smellConfused. Don't like any of the others in the black and cream packaging.

Love Youth Code by L'Oreal.

Currently using La Roche Posay as recommended on here and very impressed. Cleansing stuff on offer at 2 for £15 at Boots.

Clarins multi-jour correxion stuff very good too but now want this one

stainesmassif · 04/11/2010 13:49

i half heartedly tried the ocm, but wasn't blown away by the results, maybe i should have persevered though.

I use boots intensive serum mixed with - Bepanthen nappy cream!!!!! A friend gave me this tip. It is fantastic, £2 a tube and means really expensive mousturisers last a long time

stainesmassif · 04/11/2010 19:00

Elastamum- I just can't imagine what that's like?! What ratio nappy cream > moisturiser do you use?

OP posts:
cornsilkpyrotechnicqueen · 04/11/2010 19:02

I use the elemis one as well but am moving on to decleor. Their excellence range is fab.

stainesmassif · 04/11/2010 20:31

Yes, olay is in black and cream. V chemical smelling. Am thinking neals yard for Xmas. And then I'm thinking it's all snake oil and I should just accept that I'm 38 and there's just no going back to 24. And then I think maybe I should try elemis...

OP posts:
bigkidsmademe · 04/11/2010 20:37

I fully believe in spending as much money on looking good as I can

but moisturisers, I swear, are the biggest con ever. Nothing really can get through your skin... all the pentapeptide crap. You'd get pentapeptides on your skin if you rubbed a steak on it.

I think the best one ever is Astral. I LOVE it and I got ID'd for wine the other day (am 29).

But I DO think a non-drying cleanser like Eve Lom is worth the money especially if used properly with baby muslin cloths

sorry, something I feel strongly about Grin am forever explaining the 'science' to my mum and trying to persuade her to spend the money on an amazing haircut instead

Casmama · 04/11/2010 20:48

What is ocm?

stainesmassif · 04/11/2010 21:04

ocm here

For my birthday DH treated me to Elemis cleanser, toner and moisturiser which I ADORE.Though not sure what I'll do after they run out. Might try Clarins which I think is a tad cheaper.
Have used Boots No7 Protect and Perfect and its no way as good as Elemis.
Having said all that, I think theres alot of truth in what you say, bigkid. You can't stop the wrinkles coming.....

Casmama · 04/11/2010 23:41

Thanks staines.

stainesmassif · 05/11/2010 06:47

In principle I agree with big kid. But she's still 29! I thought the same then. Now I just want my eyes back where they used to be!

OP posts:
stainesmassif · 05/11/2010 06:48

(I realise no moisturiser will reposition my eyes btw)
