The ultimate moisturiser....

Is there such a thing? My skin is starting to .... mature. I've tried a few but can't really tell the difference between my moisturised face and the one that 38 years has given me.

I don't mind spending on something that gives results, but am not necessarily a brand snob either. Currently using olay regenerist but can't bear the smell.

What's really good?

Neal's Yard is great, my skin went all dry and bleugh when I was pg and it's sorted it out. The orange face oil is the best thing since sliced bread, expensive but you need less moisturiser (I use NYR orange moisturiser and night cream) so kind of balances itself out, or so I tell myself! Their white tea mask is good for dryness and fine lines too.
I thieve DP's Kiehls eye cream which is also v good.

Another moisturiser I love is Estee Lauder Daywear +, it's very nice and gives you glowy skin, but don't know if it would cope with how dry I am now.

yes I realise I am perhaps a bit young to comment! Plus my baby's not quite born yet so I've never had the skin-ruining delights of sleepless nights

I just think, in the future, I'd rather spend the money on botox, which does actually work, than on a cream that claims to put DNA into my skin cells Hmm

I keep pondering submitting articles to magazines explaining the science behind creams, cellulite creams, all of that, to help people wade through the lies. But I'm not sure the advertisers would like it!

I actually really like Olay - their day fluid is nice and light plus has SPF. Prevention is better than cure, as they say!

maninthemooncup · 05/11/2010 22:58

The "fake science" is another reason I like Neal's Yard, there's no 'boswellox' or owt, just stuff that feels/smells lovely.

A cheapy cheap range that is pretty good is Superdrug Vitamin E. I have it in sports/overnight/work makeup bags, and sometimes use it to eke out the NYR goodness.

Eve Fraser of facial exercise fame recommends NOT moisturising before going to bed as it softens the skin and encourages wrinkles.

Go for whatever suits your skin and pocket, as they're all much of a muchness.

However do use sunscreen. I use Clinique's City Block as it acts as primer at the same time.
Don't forget the back of your hands when sunscreening.

I know I live in Oz of the frazzling UV rays, but I started this before I got here, though I wish I'd paid more attention to sunhats in my 30s and 40s.

I sound as if I look like a lizard - I don't, and have had compliments about my skin. (Flickering tongue emoticon).

Olay total effects 7 in 1.
Anti wrinkling, moisturising, cleansing, toning, what else could you want? :o

Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish plus moisturiser for dry skin has transformed my skin in a year - from dry and scaly with horrible, random, teenage spots (sadly not a teenager by any means!) to soft and dewey. Cannot recommend the range enough.

Have had to wean myself off my Lancome addiction and now love Tesco skin wisdom - very good - as is their facial wash gel thingy.

Ponds is also another cheap hit if you can find it. There cold cream cleanser removed with a warm face cloth rivals Liz Earle imo.

krisskross · 06/11/2010 15:47

dermalogica super rich repair is good- i have quite dry skin but at 36 am still blessed with blackheads. This cream treats the dryness but doesnt give me spots (used to use protect and perfect and it gave me loadsa spots). Super rich repair is pricey though-£39

purplepeony · 06/11/2010 17:37

For night use I swear by REN Frankincense stuff- it is wonderful. £30 but lasts. I have used it for a couple of years now and it kind of makes skin glowy.

So many suggestions! And only one face... I am beginning to see how easy it is to sell a moisturiser if you can include the words 'radiant' 'dewy' or 'glow' on the packaging. It's very persuasive.

Another big Liz Earle endorsement here.

Have also heard dermalogica recommended often.

juicychops · 06/11/2010 21:00
