at bustle comment. not sure what height boots to get this winter? traditionally quite a high heeled plain brown/black boot girl, but ever since i donned the flat shoe of pregnancy last year i just cant cope with height anymore. and i NEVER thought i would put comfort before style...mmmmmm what alternative?

Buddhamummy · 21/09/2005 00:17

ooo other exciting find the other day. Went into primark for first time, and found this over dress type thing. Available in black, denimy type blue colour and grey. Its short sleeved and wraps around your waist and just covers bottom. I bought size bigger in black and have been wearing long sleeved tops underneath with jeans. Its great for just throwing on to pop into town type thing. Especially for bottom concious days. Really accentuated waist and didnt cling to boobs,

Flum · 21/09/2005 00:19

I get jacket on em all. fink they were winding you up.

its nice

Buddhamummy · 21/09/2005 00:19

Oh dear just realised what time is, so better off to bed now. Time to leave my fantasy fashion life and iron my nurses potato sack uniform for the morning! oh the glamour

Flum · 21/09/2005 00:20

Primark - get over it. Buy cheap, buy twice. a useful mantra when tempted by 2.99 tops.

they ain't gonna last, they ain't got wardrobe stayin power.

invest, invest, invest.

Don't buy anything else until you buy a black cashmere sweater loves.

Buddhamummy · 21/09/2005 00:22

Just one more post (im not addicted), all this talk about velvet reminded me of an irish boyfriend i once had at uni who absolutley HATED black velvet. The thought of it made him shudder!

Buddhamummy · 21/09/2005 00:26

Flum,

id love to be able invest! inside me is a sjp desperate to shop up market, sadly the nhs doesnt understand my need for high quality winter boots and gordon brown is most un supportive of the neccesity of buying said cashmere jumper

Flum · 21/09/2005 01:10

Buy one thing this year and one thing only. A cashmere jumper. I promise you won't regret it. Save up all your 9.99 crap tops money. You can get em from £50. better to spend bit more though.

Hawick - pricy but last for years and years.

also you need to wash them rarely. They don't hold 'smells' like cotton and man made stuff. you can sponge off dirt. Get em dry cleaned now and then.

perfect for any occasion

clary · 21/09/2005 08:46

Flum, I hear what you?re saying but I have had cashmere jumpers before but they always get eaten by moths (obv very picky moths as that?s all they do eat!)
The thing is about Primark etc, the tops are £2 and IMO it doesn?t matter if they fall apart. I bought a top from M&S for £23 and one from Primark for £2 and by next month both will doubtless be stained somehow (I am a messy eater and so are my children!) that I will have to out them anyway.
Buy cheap and chuck it is my new fashion philosophy.
On the velvet jacket front, plannign to wear it next time it is cool enough (but we seem to have run into a warm spell, still in short sleeves here)

TwinSetAndPearls · 21/09/2005 11:25

Well after my fashionista conflab last night I have truly made an effort today, have got on brown vitoriana skirt, cream/gold top, and military jacket ( not velvet will need to save up for that with brown boots. I look cool, so cool in fact that when I called into college with my sister this morning ( who is 18, size 8 and totally gorgeus!!) someone stopped me , yes me! to ask if I knew where the textiles department was as they assumed I was doing design. Of course they could have been taking the piss but I am thinking positive, and my dd said to me when I came downstairs "wow mumy you look beautiful - can I have that skirt when you don't want it!!"

TwinSetAndPearls · 21/09/2005 11:27

Following flums advice I tend to buy one or two classic pieces every year , so a good pair of blcak heels, a nice coat or pair of trousers and then if I want one season items I tend to buy cheaper. I also hunt in second hand shops, dress agencies or ebay for classic bargains, i do the same with dd all her clothes are beautifil but very little is new.

TracyK · 21/09/2005 11:31

where did youget your victoriana skirt from?? how long is it?

TwinSetAndPearls · 21/09/2005 11:44

It is last years from per una, was £50 so I ahd to save for it but I love it! Brown baby cord with ruffles at the bag which balance out my bum!

TwinSetAndPearls · 21/09/2005 11:45

It is just above ankle, it was to the floor when I bought it as I am only 5 foot 2, but I kept catching my heel in the ruffles at the back, so ahd to take it up.

Toothache · 21/09/2005 11:47

I get a woman in a dark (very tight!) long sleeved jacket with dark jeans on!

You lot seeing dresses are just delusional coz summer is soooooooo overrrrr!

Fimbo · 21/09/2005 12:47

Er Hello!!!!!!!!!!!! I obviously didn't make myself clear.......................

Last week, all of us on AOL were getting a dress!! Even if we posted a link - we still saw the dress and everyone else got the jacket. Now (a week later admittedly) we are seeing the jacket like everyone else.

sparklymieow · 21/09/2005 13:23

TSAP, sounds lovely, I neeeeeed to get a long skirt, where is good to buy them from, cheap.....

Yes, it's the jacket now, how strange.

LOL Twinset, I've gone for denim embroidered just below knee length flared skirt (along the lines of Russian/Eastern European style) with brown boots and pale military jacket today (think this thread must have been going round my head too), even blowdried and straightened my hair and put a small amount of make up on !

Feeling quite trendy today.

TwinSetAndPearls · 21/09/2005 20:41

lol I straightened my hair today, it has been tied back for weeks! I even put purfume on. I think dp thinks I am having an affair!

I have too much hair to ever be completely straight, i think Atomc Kitten are safe for now!

MrsSpoon · 21/09/2005 23:30

LOL, no pop idols here! I have straight hair already, just use the straighteners to pull it into shape really, I am no use with the brush and hair dryer thing that it would need otherwise. This way I can blast it dry with the hairdryer, give it a brush, then tame it with the straighteners.

clary · 21/09/2005 23:42

Thinking of the jacket again, spotted one like it on the current M&S advert.
Bet it was dearer than Primark or George!
Now all I have to do is dare to wear it...

TwinSetAndPearls · 21/09/2005 23:47

I bought a copy of Instyle today and they had some gorgeus miltary jacjets and some very glamourous winter coats
