Why do I always look like a need a good scrub

Ok, My face is always a mess, it looks claggy and looks like I need a scrub (i do that everyday :( ).... I need urgent advice, I cant look at myself in the mirror any longer, am gunna start wearing a mask in public!..
Sorry its a long one!!
I have very oily porous skin, few spots, blackheads (nose and cheeks) SERIOUISLY bad dark circles, and fine lines around my eyes..

I use dermalogica clay cleanser, and the medi bac oil control lotion. I always exfoliate, and throughly wash make up off everyday.

Foundation= Estee lauder double wear, Desert Beige..(pale) plus powder when oil starts seeping through..Pores show through really badly and looks cakey.

Concealer= benefit Boi iong , tried soooo many, this is what Im on at the moment, I find it very shiny and greasy, and folds in my lines.. brilliant coverage tho

Wearing a light foundation doesnt work for me and pretty much wears off after 2 hours! I have Estee lauder Pore control,.. slides off when I put foundation on and gives me zits..pretty crap...Im on Revlon colour stay, Ok but gets greasy quickly.
I drink alot of water and dont eat shit.

I have tried nearly every concealer for my DARK DARK circles,, bobby brown makes me look 90 years old enhances my wrinkes, Eclat doesnt give enough coverage. Im now on Benefit Boi ing, I love the coverage, but it looks really greasy and doesnt blend with my face..I cant put powder over, it makes wrinkles look worse, and it looks sooo claggy, My face looks claggy enough anyway, so fed up... Im not naturally beauiful, and will never be seen with out make up.. Even my daughters think Im ill with no make up on... My skin wont 'do' natural looking make up... it all slides off!... I need a face transplant I know... but if anybody out there can tell where Im going wrong, or give me advice I would be soooo grateful... Its getting to the point now where I dont want to leave the house!...

I think you are doing too much. Exfoiliating every day strips yor skin of its natural oil and casues it to produce too much.
A lot of people on here with oily skin swear by the Oil cleansing method.
here

SixtyFootDoll · 12/10/2010 16:06

I have combination skin and have been using Liz Ealre produsts for the past 18 months and my skin has never been better.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 12/10/2010 16:07

Don't want to leave you unanswered but TBH I'm not much use, my skin is very dry.

While your waiting for someone of more use, try searching the archives / googling 'Oil Cleansing Method', I suspect it might be just what you need.

LeopardSkinPillBoxHat · 12/10/2010 16:16

Thank you for answering!! :) I dont exfoliate everyday, only about 2-3 times a week..Oh Id forgotten about Liz Earle, I used that stuff when I was a teenager, and loved it ( christmas presents off my gran).. prehaps I should give her stuff a go again.. thank yoou x

I'd recommend going for a facial, getting yourself sorted on an even keel and then copy whatever they do Wink

nomorebooze · 12/10/2010 17:06

what about a mineral foundation this will be better than a heavy foundation, i use estee lauder double wear and im normal to dry! this is quite a rich foundation!!!!!!!!!! mineral may help with oil control too and with the different brushes fab on dark circles too:) starter pack is good,
web:feeunique.com
Bare Escentuals i.d Get Started Kit - Light.
also drink more water really does help with dark circles Smile

nomorebooze · 12/10/2010 17:08

ohh and as others have said dont exfoliate too much 2xweek should be more than enough, otherwise you stimulate your skin to produce more oil. another vote for liz earle.

ps qvc sells minerals and liz earle too i think!!!!!!

cyb · 12/10/2010 17:21

I beg to differ, I think I have WORSE dark shadows than you

it sounds like you are piling on too much make up on top of stressed skin

Change your cleansing method to one that you remove with a flannel or muslin- I actually dont think the cleanser itself is that important, its the removal method that counts. This will make a huge difference to your pore size , it has with mine

Dilute your foundation with your chosen moisturiser. Use half as much benefit as you have been doing and really only apply it along the dark line and blend down. Apply on outer corner of eye too.

The magic secret?_ BLUSHER. Find a rosy pinky blusher that suits you and wear every day. ANd don't obsess about your bags...no one else is

shodatin · 12/10/2010 17:29

Afraid I can't help with cosmetics, but I think I'd ask GP about dark circles if you're drinking plenty of water and eating properly already. Good luck

Havingkittens · 12/10/2010 18:57

Go to MAC and get them to recommend a concealer for you. They have so many different types and colours that one of them should work for you. Often a peachy toned one will help lift dark shadows better than the yellowy toned ones which can make you look a bit grey under the eyes. Applying it with a fluffy brush will stop it going on too cakey, try MAC's 217 brush.

Also try using a more lightweight foundation and just use a bit of concealer where you need the extra coverage. You may need 2 different concealers, one for under eye shadows and one for blemishes. You will need something that matches your skintone for blemishes but more of a neutralising colour for under eyes.

Ladygaggia · 12/10/2010 19:01

I'd second the mineral make up. It is so much kinder on your skin.

cybbo · 12/10/2010 19:02

Leopard, I have found that mixing no 1 and no 2 in Boi-ing is the best colour for my shadows

LeopardSkinPillBoxHat · 12/10/2010 19:10

My dark circles look like I have two black eyes they are that bad, (not puffy, just BLACK) no amount of sleep or water changes them, Ive had them since I can remember, Kids called my 'druggie' in school.. :( Ive heard about Bare Escentuals, nowhere close to me sells it, I will definately give the stater pack a try, Thank you for the recommendation! :) ... I always use a muslin,a clean one everytime, I had sooooo many left from dd's baby days... I guess I should get my greasy mug checked into a professional. Thanks for the link SixtyFootDoll, that's really interesting, I wouldnt normally dream of using oil to cleanse.. worth a try! thank you ladies for replying to my post x

Clinique pore minimiser instant perfector is amazing for disguising pores and has a mattifying effect and makes your skin texture look much better.

Scootergrrrl · 12/10/2010 19:15

Lilylolo mineral makeup is fab and you can get little tester pots online for about a quid and then choose the colour that suits you. They do a really good mineral concealer too.

FloraFinching · 12/10/2010 19:18

I've got crap skin. Spot/blackhead prone, with dryness. very pallid complexion. nice.

I didn't get on with the oil cleansing method, and found that my skin needs more of a "proper
wash". I use a soap free wash-off cleanser - currently having very good results with this one from origins.

Then a light moisturiser - just using a cheapo bodyshop aloe vera day cream. If I'm wearing makeup I add a tiny blob of serum which makes the makeup sit better on my skin without being greasy.

Best foundation I've found is bobbi brown skin. Sort of skims over the pores, and seems to last.

I would also second cyb's suggestion of wearing blusher. Without it I look like the corpse bride.

LeopardSkinPillBoxHat · 12/10/2010 20:10

I find my face needs a proper wash too floraFinching I shall have to give Origins a try, Ive heard you can book an appointment with a Bobbi Brown beautician, I shall save my pocket money and take a trip to my nearest stockist.. tank you soo much for the tips! x

ANother vote for LillyLolo mineral foundation too, anything else just slips off my face

missmelly · 13/10/2010 02:15

Im with all the rest... as I read your post I was thinking you're doing too much. Def try a MAC concealer, I find mine awesome, great coverage and a mineral foundation that wont show up the pores on your face.

BranchingOut · 13/10/2010 09:02

I agree that too much exfoliation might be stimulating excess oil.

My skin began to improve when I started to treat it much more gently. I have combination skin that can also get quite dehydrated at times. I have found that Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is a very gentle exfoliator, but I don't use it daily, just 1 - 2 times a week. The Special Cleansing Gel is also good. I then use Active Moist.

I think that some oil treatment may actually help - Clarins makes an oil, I think it is Lotus oil, specifically to rebalance oily skin.

Have you tried just going without make up or any skin treatments for a few days - let the skin rebalance itself and see what you get?
Maybe over a weekend or bank holiday if you are worried about going out without makeup.

OnlyWantsOne · 13/10/2010 09:04

I would ditch all the products, and use the oil cleansing method :) seriously, it bloody works

SixtyFootDoll · 13/10/2010 09:18

I use Lize Earle in the mornings
then at night any old wipe and Bio Oil.
My skin is looking OK right now ( will never be great Sad)

TheGrumpalo · 13/10/2010 09:20

I've just started the oil cleansing method and it's already made my pores much smaller and blackheads are diminishing fast! Try it and ditch ALL the other stuff.

Don't worry it doesn't make skin greasy as I though it would when I started, just really soft and clear!

TheGrumpalo · 13/10/2010 09:22

Oh and I have sympathy with you about your dark circles, I have had them as long as I can remember but much worse since pregnancy. The only thing that makes them less visible is lots and lots of sleep but don't think they'll ever go away. Sad
