How many coats do you have?

deaddei · 10/10/2010 16:10

I never seem to have the right coat- for instance I have 2 raincoats which are fashionable but not waterproof.
My showerproof coat is a huge down filled affair, which is too hot for most of the year.
I have a nice smart wool coat, but often feel overdressed in it.
Tell me about your coats, as I need to be ruthless about buying a new one.

17 Blush

That doesn't include jackets.

deaddei · 10/10/2010 16:14

Wow.
But do you still open your coat wardrobe (I'm assuming they have their own special place!) and say "I have nothing appropriate!"

I have 4 but am lusting for another.

1 red wool affair, love it, very warm, but getting slightly too big.

1 regatta waterproof for walking to school and dog walking in inclement weathers.

1 fashion mac (def not waterproof as I found out on a day trip :( )

1 denim swing coat, I love the shape and the colour, dp thinks it makes me look even fatter than I am.

Jaquelinehyde · 10/10/2010 16:19

I have a couple of shawls, and several longline long sleeved cardigans but no coats.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 10/10/2010 16:20

a black one and a cream one.

ShowOfHands · 10/10/2010 16:23

Nope. If you include jackets, I always have something appropriate. We have 6 hooks in the kitchen and 3 hooks on the back of the bedroom door. The coats are evenly distributed between them all. Jackets are in the wardrobe.

I have...

A wax jacket

A sort of ski coat (thick, padded for v bad weather)

A showerproof lighter coat

Two black coats (one calf length, one floor length), both wool but I customised them both with patchwork/embroidery

A purple velvet tailored coat

A dark green velvet tailored coat

A patchwork coat that I made

A brown duffle

A cord blue double breasted coat

A blue pinstripe coat

A patchwork/floral quilted coat

A budgie jacket

A long grey, thick tailored wool coat

A dark green hooded cotton coat with multicoloured piping

A really beautiful cream coat with pink and black details. It's really soft, a bit like suede but it isn't

A multi-coloured embroidered coat that Joseph would be ashamed of

I think I have more in the loft though...

Hassled · 10/10/2010 16:27

SOH - that is one impressive coat collection. It could almost be a hobby - like some people collect interesting stones.

I have:
A hideous red fleece used for gardening.
Smart black wool thing for smart places.
Spotty Boden number that is several years old and screams "Boden" too loudly. Looks quite shabby now.
Raincoat that DS3 tells me looks like I'm about to go exploring.
The obligatory pale blue cagoule.

ShowOfHands · 10/10/2010 16:33

I suspect if I listed my jackets, I'd be hounded off here.

I collect coats, hats (I have one for every week of the year and then some), books on pillboxes and snowglobes (they only come out at Christmas).

I think I'm diverse. DH thinks I'm weird.

ShowOfHands · 10/10/2010 16:36

I also have 11 pairs of Dr Marten's and 8 pairs of slippers (including the excellent Freudian slippers I am wearing at the moment). And, er 40 pairs of sock.

I know what I like. And what I like is to be warm.

Igglybuff · 10/10/2010 16:36

Er I have:

A hot pink one, green one, red one, waterproof one and dark grey one. Plus 4-5 jackets.

sapphireblue · 10/10/2010 18:42

I have 3 or 4 coats and none of them fit any more Sad. Frantically saving up for a new one before the weather gets too cold!

cruelladepoppins · 10/10/2010 18:49

I have:

a good black wool mix one with faux-fur collar which I wear to work, from LK Bennett and about 5 yrs old - it had hideous plastic buttons which I changed for nice cloth-covered ones;
a Boden mac (pretty waterproof),maybe 3 yrs old, red and purple print;
a Boden printed blue flowers on beige background heavy cloth coat, 4 yrs old;
a fluorescent and reflective very heavily-padded workies' jacket I wear on the bike when it's freezing/ snowy.

I'm not counting jackets!

bigTillyMint · 10/10/2010 19:26

8?

WhatsThatDuckDoingThere · 10/10/2010 19:27

Too many, and yet I never seem to have the right coat for many, many combinations of event + weather.

oooooh I feel right at home here with the coat enthusiasts
I have:

brown fluffy (alpaca?) double breasted full length
short navy wool with military buttons
dark choc brown shearling 3/4 length coat
knee length black puffa (last year's school run coat)
showerproof padded trench (as yet unworn, to be this year's school run coat Wink)
thin (like a cagoule) showerproof raincoat thing
Boden fleece lined spotty raincoat thing from a few years ago which I never wear (I blame post partum hormones for its purchase)

I also have
short black leather jacket
short brown zip up leather jacket (is a shade too big for me now though so haven't worn for ages)
short waterproof hooded jacket (again a bit too big and a bit daft as altho' waterproof it has 3/4 length sleeves Hmm

I haven't included summer jackets of which there must be another 3 or 4

I was in the process of trying to decide whether it would be silly to buy another coat (faux fur) so this inventory has been very timely........and actually yes, I think there is room for another Grin

Waterproof coat from Animal

Chocolate velvet blazer

Plain black jacket

Black trench

So 4.

I'm getting a wool coat this month, not sure whether to go for cream or a brighter colour. Red, orange etc or one of each.

I also want to get a colourful Mac

And a nice fitted fleece to go under Animal coat for the cold cold days.

Oh and a nice evening jacket of some description.

Grin
Oumasrusks · 11/10/2010 07:36

I also have 15, of which 6 are macs. I can't stop myself buying coats for some reason.

overmydeadbody · 11/10/2010 07:39

Good lord.

I have

1 grey winter coat

1 ski jacket

1 short winter jacket in browns

1 gillet

1 cream rain mac

Wordsonascreen · 11/10/2010 07:43

I gave 28 coats/jackets to charidee when I emigrated, that plus 12 scarves and 5 hats. And my sister pinched my Boden rainday mac.

I now have a pac a mac and a sort of sheepskin gilet thing for when I go back to England and an ancient gap Dr Who style scarf.

It feels very strange.

Dorothyredboots · 11/10/2010 09:35

Thank you form this thread ladies. I feel much better about my coats now. I thought i had a lot but I only have:-

Red military style three quarter length coat.
Turquoise Summer mac.
Boden winter mac (too big)
Mid calf 'dressy' coat
Brown puffa thing.

Really only like the first one, the rest are too big or wrong in some way (colour/style) as they pre-date my colour/style analysis sessions, but are too pricey to bin, and I have not as yet seen anything else I like that would replace them.
