Uggs for a night out?

mummy777 · 03/10/2010 19:33

Hi

Have a night out this week with the girls. Probably a casual dinner and then to the pub. I was thinking of wearing black skinny jeans tucked into my black Ugg Argyle boots. Plan to wear a sheer dressy top with a vest underneath to dress things up a bit. Just wondering if this will look ok? Thanks for your help.

Sorry but I personally think it will look like you've dressed up your top half and your bottom half is ready for bed .. I always think like Uggs look like slippers ...

HumongousFungus · 03/10/2010 19:40

dressy top with slippers? Nah won't work.

Urbanvoltaire · 03/10/2010 19:41

Sounds like you will be letting the rest of your outfit down. Leave the Uggs at home.

stressheaderic · 03/10/2010 19:42

Flat boots with skinnys are fine, loads of nice flats around. Not Uggs though.Terrible.

BooBooGlass · 03/10/2010 19:42

No no no no no

happilyeverafter · 03/10/2010 19:43

Uggs - casual
Dressy top - not casual.

Wear some lovely heels!

upahill · 03/10/2010 19:44

Please don't

mummy777 · 03/10/2010 19:44

Any suggestions about what to wear instead? Getting worried about cold toes now and think it's going to be wet this week. Would flats be ok or wedge boots? Just worried as I haven't got the thinnest of legs and think the Uggs sort of balance things a bit! Thanks again

Uggs would make legs look bigger surely?

Flat biker boots?

HowsTheSerenity · 03/10/2010 19:55

uggs are slippers!!!
and only bogans wear them in public.

mummy777 · 03/10/2010 19:59

Sorry for asking HTS!!!!!!!! Plenty of people wear Uggs! I was asking for an outfit opinion not personal name calling for wearing them!

Uggs are emotive things.

Best avoided IMO.

HowsTheSerenity · 03/10/2010 20:07

Oh mummy77, it was a joke. Sorry for hurting your feelings over a pair of shoes.

Wear them if you want to. But you asked for peoples opinions and being Australian, and as it is the home of ugg boots (which is short for ugly boots btw), I am more then qualified to give an opinion on shoes that are slippers and are only worn by bogans.

Why they have been given god like status in the UK and USA I do not know. Oh and they are bad for your feet by the way.
Ok my two cents. Have a fun night.

dexter73 · 03/10/2010 20:20

I like Uggs but not for a night out I'm afraid.

LetThemEatCake · 03/10/2010 20:30

I am also Australian and agree with the whole slippers thing (although have been known to wear leather ones in public - so warm!!)

but not for a night out. More importantly, what are your other footwear options?

hope you have a fab night!

mummy777 · 03/10/2010 20:33

Thanks for the opinions. Think I'll save the Uggs for daywear!
I'm off shopping in the morning. Will look at wedge boots and flat boots.

Dear lord no

InGodWeTrust · 03/10/2010 20:45

There's some lovely flat leather boots, like cowboy boots but without buckles and heels....which are nice with jeans....

BadgerAdrift · 03/10/2010 20:50

For a casual dinner then pub, uggs can look great; but not with a dressy top.

A more casual top half would be fine.

Uggs do suit some people more than others.

MrsShrekTheThird · 03/10/2010 20:50

what about the shoe-boots that are around atm? Some of those with a medium heel are very nice

happilyeverafter · 03/10/2010 21:24

I love shoeboots MrsShrek

GeekOfTheWeek · 03/10/2010 21:25

It won't be a good look imo.

They will look very odd with a dressy top.

echt · 04/10/2010 12:14

Please do not do this.

Uggs are slippers. For in the house only.

mummy777 · 04/10/2010 15:47

Thanks for the advice. After my shopping trip and buying some bootcut jeans, have decided to wear black bootcut jeans with shoe boots. Just feels odd to be back in bootcuts after skinnies for so long but acutally feels really smart, especially as I bought a black pair.
Thanks again

Mummy 77 - like you, I have been livin in skinny jeans - with sandals in the summer and Uggs in the winter (yes, I do indeed wear them out of the house). Was in Cambridge earlier in the week and, on a whim, bought some skinny flare jeans. They did feel very strange at first (wearing with stack heel boots) but I have had 3 people ask me if I have lost weight when wearing them Smile

I would save the uggs for casual days and am sure the shoe boots will look great
