Do you think these boots are suitable for 9 year olds girls?

I think not, in fact the more I look at them, the more I hate them. They are far too old looking for my 9 year old girls.

Mother in law adores them and wants to buy them for my girls who have equally set their hearts on them. I said thanks but no thanks and mil got in a strop and said she'd buy them anyway!

Whoops! No good at links! Will try again.

Link doesn't work but if they are from Next then the answer is probably No.Grin

ayjayjay · 01/10/2010 18:50

They're a little bit old but I've seen worse. At least they're nice and flat.

muggglewump · 01/10/2010 18:51

I've a 9yr old and we are going boot/shoe and clothes shopping next Friday so I'm intrigued.

sandyballs · 01/10/2010 19:00

I can't do it!! I'm hoping someone will come along and help me with the link Grin

Well, heels aren't allowed at all but I've seen nice lace up boots.
They are in a cheap shoe shop which tend to sell things that get the cats bums going though.
Could you describe them?

JustKeepSwimming · 01/10/2010 19:05

is it these?

if so i think i'm with you :)

FattyArbuckel · 01/10/2010 19:12

What do they look like?

sandyballs · 01/10/2010 19:16

Ahhh thank you justkeepswimming Grin, I really must learn how to do that properly one day.

I can't quite put my finger on what is so awful about them. They don't have high heels, which is good as they are a definite no no here, but they just seem soooo old! And tarty, I suppose that is what it is. My girls are 9, they are used to climbing trees in scuffed up trainers. i know they won't always be like that but I really don't think mil should be encouraging this at 9. One of my DDs is already begging me to order them before next week's school disco.

MIL won't 'get it' i know - she thinks I'm a tomboy who lives in jeans and she is delighting in trying to dress my girls in inappropriate crap. I'm furious that she said she'd buy them anyway, against my will. Haven't spoken to DH yet but pretty sure he will agree with me.

But then i go back to that great thread about childhood grievances and there are loads of things on there about not being allowed to wear certain clothes/shoes and still being pissed off with it 30 years later Grin.

OP posts:
sandyballs · 01/10/2010 19:19

If they were 12/13 i might consider it, but 9!

Millie1 · 01/10/2010 19:20

I'm with you - they're just too grown-up.

Kathyjelly · 01/10/2010 19:23

At nine, I wouldn't be keen. They're a bit tarty.

DurhamDurham · 01/10/2010 19:23

I like them and don't see why they are not suitable for a nine year old. Thye are flat and would look lovely with jeans or a skirt and tights.

FellatioNelson · 01/10/2010 19:23

They are horrid. for 9 year olds or anyone else.

ballstoit · 01/10/2010 19:28

Erm, no. DSS is 10 and there are girls who where this sort of stuff in his class. But they look far too old for their years.

I worry with so many things that if you have them when you're 9 or 10 there's nowhere to go when you get to 14 or 15. Like mobile phones and huge earrings.

muggglewump · 01/10/2010 19:30

Oh.
I don't mind those.
I don't like them, but I'm not going to be wearing them.

I'd let my 9yr old have them.

I don't think they are tarty, but I still prefer the lace up ones I saw, but they are quite short and won't keep her legs warm.

We'll see next week. I may buy her two pairs.

FattyArbuckel · 01/10/2010 19:30

I think they look tarty and wouldn't let my 11 year old wear them.

If mil bought against my advice then I might letmy dd wear them once only at her school disco if she was desperate to.

colditz · 01/10/2010 19:31

They are flat heeled and cover her legs - HOW are they tarty?

Rockbird · 01/10/2010 19:32

Wouldn't put my 9yo in those. Too grown up looking.

muggglewump · 01/10/2010 19:37

DD ha a similar pair last year, except last year they had pink crystals on them.
Grin

cruelladepoppins · 01/10/2010 19:40

A bit too pointy in the toe for those tender tootsies ... is my opinion anyway. I have boys but I'm very choosy about what goes on their feet in the comfort stakes.

Hullygully · 01/10/2010 19:42

I think they are a bit horrid, but hey, they're her feet, not mine - I'd let her wear them.

vintage4 · 01/10/2010 19:51

don`t think they are too old for a 9 year old and they are certainly not "tarty"

FattyArbuckel · 02/10/2010 10:13

I say tarty because they are a bit bondage inspired which is not appropriate for a 9 year old
