unless you are a whispy 6 foot model looking dreamy, on a bike in a catalgoue Wink i suggest that boyfriend jeans are pretty dull style wise.
they make the wearer look shapeless and butch and are the tracksuit bottoms of the denum world.

I think that if you're slim, youngish and have a quirky style, you can just about get away with them. I was all of those things once, and used to wear them with T-shirts (Urban Outfitter type slogan-y or pattern-y). But then I was never particularly stylish. It's horses for course, I think.

BusyMissIzzy · 14/09/2010 15:38

courses, even

Hullygully · 14/09/2010 15:38

But they are comfy. What jeans should one wear then? Not skinny (vom).

BusyMissIzzy · 14/09/2010 15:44

They are indeed comfy, and they were a godsend for people like me with small hips but largeish thighs who don't fit into slimmer-cut styles.

I quite like skinny jeans, but I've only been able to wear them at my absolute slimmest (see above re: thighs).

cryhavoc · 14/09/2010 15:49

Pretty dull style wise, yes, but practical. BusyMissIzzy, I wear mine with t-shirts - they are comfy for toddler group, park trips, and tramping around the countryside with the dogs.

In my other guise, as a trendy student, I do not wear them. Boyfriend-jeans Girl is my alter-ego.

Hullygully · 14/09/2010 15:50

what are boyfriend-jeans girl?!

BusyMissIzzy · 14/09/2010 16:00

She's a superhero, Hully. She fends off uncomfortably tight denim with a single blow. Ka-POW!

traceybath · 14/09/2010 16:32

They look ok with very tight fitting tops but not with baggy stuff.

Not my thing but I'm small and would look dumpy in them.

traceybath · 14/09/2010 16:32

They're for pears aren't they really?

niminypiminy · 14/09/2010 16:35

well since seeing Jess Cartner-Morley of the Guardian recommending them as the new kind of jean for the fashion-forward a few months ago I've been hoping they will come back. I abhor boot cuts (most popular jean at Boden nuff said) and can't wear skinnies, so what else is there?

piratecat · 14/09/2010 16:35

boyfriend jeans are the only style that suit me, becuase of my fat thighs. They are low key, but i find them cool when i wear them cos i am quite cool ;)

tight tops for deffo, accesories like a scarf, bangles, or a cute cardy make my jeans look fine imo.

FattyArbuckel · 14/09/2010 16:37

All jeans are frumpy imo except on cowboys

nameymcnamechange · 14/09/2010 16:38

What sort of jeans should a person wear if they can't do skinnies?

FattyArbuckel · 14/09/2010 16:39

All jeans are frumpy imo except on cowboys

mangoandlime · 14/09/2010 16:39

I like 'em. And I wear with Converse too.

Ya boo sucks. Grin

cherylvole · 14/09/2010 16:39

I'm a Mum.

cryhavoc · 14/09/2010 16:43

That's right, BusyMissIzzy. When I am not Trendy Student Woman I am Boyfriend-jeans Girl. I can fly and everything.

BusyMissIzzy · 14/09/2010 16:44

I like Converse with skinny jeans cos they're casual but not too chunky.

Meh. I'm a "T-shirt, jeans and traniers" girl (but edgy rather than lazy ). I probably shouldn't be posting in Style & Beauty at all, since I patently have neither BlushHmm

piratecat · 14/09/2010 16:45

bf jeans and adidas shell toes for me.

BusyMissIzzy · 14/09/2010 16:47

traniers? Gah.

EleFunTess · 14/09/2010 16:53

They don't suit me. I'm tall and curvy (no not fat, just curvy Grin). I have an arse and, yes, OK, a bit of a mum tum. I would look pathetic in them.

I have never been a jeans-and-converse girl, though. Make me feel like an aged schoolgirl.

BumChin · 14/09/2010 19:49

Well I wear boyfriend jeans, I have no arse and skinny legs and they look slouchy and comfy and I think a bit trendy too- if wore with nice ballet pumps, nice belt and cute top. Certainly not butch, possibly shapeless- but that's me anyway. I object to the idea of them being frumpy. Sorry, frumpy is high waisted jeans, tapered leg jeans that give you mum bum.

I have seen other ladies in the exact same boyfriend jeans as myself but due to their more curvy figure they don't look like boyfriend jeans- they look tight around the arse etc. The idea is that it looks like you're wearing your boyfriend's jeans.

BumChin · 14/09/2010 19:51

Sorry, I am still tutting at the idea tht they are frumpy.

thatsnotmyfruitshoot · 14/09/2010 19:55

my boyfriend actually wears my boyfriend jeans.. they look a lot better on him than me. Envy
