Military Style Jackets (aka Freddie Mercury cast offs)

Went shopping at lunchtime and warehouse was full of them, navy blue short military jackets - think freddie M or Sgt Peppers.

They were not flying out of the shops.

However, I am glad to report that having bought two items, not one shop assistant spoke to me at all...wouldn't want them to break out of their surly stereo type. I said thank you regardless - my mother would be so proud.

PS Does anyone know of any nice dresses with sleeves that reach the elbow. I refuse to wear strapless numbers in autumn / winter. If you come back with Diane von Furstenburg i shall not be happy.

i tried one of those jackets on in primark and it looked utterly riduculous.

I have just spied a very nice black gypsy skirt style dress in New Look with a scoop neck and peasant style embroidery around the neckline, lightweight floaty cotton, £22. I might buy it for work.

i looked like that mouse out of Dumbo

dillydally · 30/08/2005 15:14

New look are fab and incredibly reasonable..it would be a crime not to buy it.
Does it have sleeves though?

What is wrong with an old fashioned sleeve.

i believe it does have sleeves albeit short ones

snafu · 30/08/2005 15:14

Mmmmm, the demented drum majorette look is so desirable

dillydally · 30/08/2005 15:15

Now if the military jackets came with pom poms that look could work for me..

at the thought of both the mouse from dumbo and a band camp exile.

miss selfridge has some good stuff in atm

oliveoil · 30/08/2005 15:16

Everybody wears these jackets, v common imo.

H&M looked a right pile of crap at lunch, not sure of all this new autumn range yet.

snafu · 30/08/2005 15:17

I was really impressed with the stuff in New Look the other week. Have never been in there before but braved it and came out with lovely (flattering, not bumcrack-flaunting) jeans and yummy chocolate velvet jacket.

dillydally · 30/08/2005 15:18

eek, i bought a lime green woolly v neck jumper...but the kind you have to wear a white strappy vest underneath it from h&m at lunch..
a bargain at 15 english pounds..

i tried most of covent garden and came away with two blumin tops when i wanted a new suit.

Enid · 30/08/2005 15:21

bundle · 30/08/2005 15:29

snigger re: Dumbo

dillydally · 30/08/2005 15:30

I do want a cape though...would that be so wrong? Or is too similar to the poncho? It probably is, isn't it.

OP posts:
nailpolish · 30/08/2005 15:32

capes were recommended in the sunday times style magazine, so the must be ok then

defintely not the same as ponchos

Enid · 30/08/2005 15:32

god no way

totally a poncho in disguise

Enid · 30/08/2005 15:32

ST also recommended the primark velvet military jacket remember

nailpolish · 30/08/2005 15:33

yeah like a wedding - your own

nailpolish · 30/08/2005 15:34

maybe im too easily led...

mummytosteven · 30/08/2005 16:08

I've got the Primark one and really like it, I'm afraid. In mitigation, I am small-chested, and have a reasonable waist, so I think they don't look too bad on my shape, Don't think they would work well with big boobs tho.

dillydally · 30/08/2005 16:14

Kate moss looks fine in hers too...
I am v tall though and would resemble an extra from one flew over the cuckoos nest or a wannabe stars in your eyes contestant.
