Expensive jeans.....

deaddei · 06/08/2010 14:23

I have several pairs of jeans which are fine for day to day.
However, I would really like a nice pair of going out/work.
Which are the really expensive ones people rave about- and are they as good as people claim?
I don't want to mail order- would prefer to go into London to the shop-which is the best place?

I'm assuming these jeans go up to a 34inch inside leg......

I think posh jeans are over-rated. I've got a few pairs (all from T K Maxx) and, to be honest, none of them are as good as my Uniqlo or Zara jeans.
Actually, having said that, I do love my Made in Heaven (MiH) jeans.
If you're going to London, try the new T K Maxx on Charing Cross road. They do all sorts of designer brands. I just bought a pair of Earl skinny blue jeans there for £9.99 down from £150 last week Grin

MissWooWoo · 06/08/2010 15:14

Shock £9.99 !!!

Millie1 · 06/08/2010 15:33

I much prefer my 'good' jeans ... they're a much better cut on the bum and the legs. Have Sevens & James but this year the Sevens will be too small as i'm getting back up to my pre-pregnancy weight Sad.

I have a pair of Seven jeans and although they are too low cut on the waist for me really (bought them when was younger and less muffiney) the legs are incredibly flattering and make me look way slimmer than I actually am.

I suspect that there are less low cut ones (the zip on mine is about 3" long, if that), in which case I reckon that they were well worth $150 (what I paid for them in NY five years ago on my one and only glamorous shopping trip ever).

ThatPoshBirdBellavita · 06/08/2010 15:45

I really rate French Connection jeans. £70 for a pair of slim fit. I used to really struggle to get jeans with a nice fit. My colleague recommended them and it was the best 70 quid I ever spent. I have had loads of compliments about them.

traceybath · 06/08/2010 15:58

I am a jeans addict Smile

I've just bought In | Latest Designer FashionLHN--r1|c2--217178 these and they're lovely - very flattering indeed.

I also like 7FAM but their styles vary hugely - I only wear the roxannes.

J Brands are fab for skinnies and are very flattering.

Current/Elliott is good for the lived-in/boyfriend styles.

MIH also nice.

If I were you - I'd head for Selfridges, Harvey Nichols or Donna Ida all of which have a good selection. Then grab an assistant and try on about a 100 pairs.

purplepeony · 06/08/2010 17:44

I have just bought some skinnies at Uniqlo and they are a very good fit- for £29.99. They are tapered skinnies. They have straight skinny legs- might get a pair too- for £14.99.

My wealthy friend buys Armani jeans and swears by them- for £150. Gets them at Selfridges.

wildfig · 06/08/2010 20:32

The only jeans that have ever made me look skinny and glamorous are Paige Hollywood Hills - the cut is really flattering and I wore them to death, so on a pay-per-wear basis, they were good value. I bought them in Bloomingdales, where the assistants literally hurl different pairs at you until you find some that look fabulous. I think that's the key; trying on loads and loads but with someone hooting encouragement at you, so you don't lose the will to live after Pair 6. Also, buying in a foreign currency, so you're not quite so painfully aware of how much it all costs.

littlepinkpear · 06/08/2010 22:47

Cant recommend Citizens of Humanity jeans enough. Get them from Selfridges, but you dont get much change from £200.

Keep an eye out for online sales, I've picked some up from Cocosa and Secret Sales.

carciofi · 06/08/2010 23:16

I really like Trilogy. They have stores off the Kings Rd and in Marylebone. They stock all the brands and the sales assistants are very helpful. I also like Donna Ida, Harvey Nicks and Selfridges but would head to Trilogy first. My favourites are Earnest Sewn, Paige, Citizens, J Brand and Current/Elliott.

oliviasmama · 07/08/2010 08:46

Another fan of Paige jeans here, tell me a shape that this range doesn't flatter. Miracle workers, I promise you, you absolutely must try them.

I used to manage a small designer womenswear shop and these were our very best sellers...without fail.

oliviasmama · 07/08/2010 08:47

....not cheap but worth the expense Wink

deaddei · 07/08/2010 09:06

I am heading for Trilogy next week.

Agree with SecondComing - Seven are amazing. Worth every penny. Am size 10-12, short waist, no arse and long legs (36" inside leg) and they give me a shape.

I go to Joseph and buy them in the sale (3 pairs for £150 a couple of weeks ago). Also available on Ebay (other good websites are also available Grin)

without · 07/08/2010 16:03

'Not Your Daughter Jeans' are amazing - they are quite pricey but are the only jeans I'll wear (contain lycra so they let you move).
notyourdaughtersjeans.org.uk/

They wash well, hold their shape and colour, hold in your tummy and because the sizing is American (or just bizarre) I wear size 0 jeans although I am a size 8-10; and that does make me feel good ;o)

DrSpechemin · 07/08/2010 16:09

Another vote for Paige Hollywood Hills - they are the most flattering pair of jeans I have ever worn.
I love mine and try to wear them as much as I can.

dexter73 · 08/08/2010 12:23

Earl jeans are great. I have just picked up 2 pairs of straight leg jeans in TK Maxx for £20 each. There used to be an outlet at Bicester but it closed Sad. You can also pick them up on Ebay.

RamblingRosa · 08/08/2010 14:33

Yes, they really were £9.99 Grin and they're very nice. I don't see what the fuss is about though. They're not especially any nicer than my Uniqlo skinnies.

I do love my MiH jeans but again, I've got a pair of Zara jeans which are almost identical, cost a fraction of the price, and are really just as nice.

I do think the hype around designer jeans is a bit unfounded. Having said that, if you've got the money and you want some posh jeans then why not?

I do recommend T K Maxx before you bother with Selfridges or any other department stores.

deaddei · 22/09/2010 22:03

Have revived this as I finally made it to the Trilogy shop- and came away with a pair of J Brand cigarette leg and Citizens bootleg.
Fit perfect.
Had to go and have a strong coffee in Patisserie Valerie to get over the cost Shock

CarSeatQuestion · 23/09/2010 09:56

I just got two pairs of MiH jeans from TK Maxx, £20 each (marked down from £145), and they are fab!

vanillacupcakes · 23/09/2010 17:39

Absolutely love J Brand jeans and think they are the best, Current/Elliott is great too imo

and another vote for Paige Hollywood Hills!
