QUICK .... recommendations for best foundation and mascara please

Am off to town in 15 minutes, so please recommend your foundation or mascara.

I have worn Clarins foundation for years but now theyve discontinued mine and I don t like the new one. I like a proper expensive foundation, you cant skimp on some things!
Usually use YSL mascara but I find it goes claggy really quick and is a bit of a waste of £20.
I dont mind a cheap mascara if its good

TIA

Chanel vitalumiere for a nice light dewey skin
Estee Lauder double wear for very long lasting cover

Dior mascara
Weirdly the best mascara I ever had was a Rimmel waterproof one...

PaulineCampbellJones · 04/08/2010 10:12

Yves St Laurent Perfect Touch and MAC foundations are excellent. Also Estee Lauder Double Wear. Benefit mascara is great as is Max Factor lash infinity.

cocolepew · 04/08/2010 10:13

Revlon photo ready foundation and Miss Sporty volume mascara, it's about £3

teameric · 04/08/2010 10:18

I use Clinique super fit foundation and Maybelline great lash mascara, Viva ditto on the rimmel waterproof one.

aquavit · 04/08/2010 10:19

how serious do you want the coverage to be?

I love - LOVE - Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser but it's not proper foundation

I use clinique long and pretty mascara (and no clagginess ever) but again, it is very light weight and is not for you if you want a seriously made up look. Love Max Factor mascaras for something with more oomph

SixtyFootDoll · 04/08/2010 10:20

MAybeliine collosal volume.

purplepeony · 04/08/2010 10:27

One of the Clinique foundations- I use Repair Wear but I am ancient. Bobbi Brown are good too .
Lancome Hypnose mascara- best I have ever used- costs £20 but is worth it.

apsie · 04/08/2010 10:36

I'll second the MAC foundations - fantastic. I really like all of the Max Factor masterpiece mascara range.

Ronaldinhio · 04/08/2010 10:39

vitalumiere foundation

ysl false eyelash mascara

AlaskaNebraska · 04/08/2010 10:40

dior show
and either vita lumiere OR OR OR dior nude skin
used lncome today and bursh NOT as good as DIOR NEW one

minipie · 04/08/2010 10:51

estee lauder double wear light (for decent coverage)

clinique high impact mascara

lancome also does good mascaras.

EvaLongoria · 04/08/2010 10:59

I use Benefit Stick foundation. Only downside is the price at £25 but it lasts 3 months for someone that use foundation everyday and therefore longer if you don't use foundation often.

MaineGirl · 04/08/2010 11:01

probably too late, but been using that jmaybeline mascara with the new wand, it looks like a big spikey ball on the nd instead of the usual brush, it really gets into the corners and the tiny lashes. i'd always used ysl or benefit bad gal lash previously, but have been converted to this and avon shock mascara.
foundation i use a selection of bobbi brown ones depending on if i want full on liquid foundation or the more often than not one in the compact that dries to a powder finish.

sparkle1977 · 04/08/2010 11:09

I second YSL Perfect Touch foundation, I love it, will never use a foundation again that doesn't come with a brush. Amazing results with a brush compared to your fingers or a sponge.

Mascara - not so sure, currently trying out Max Factor False Lash Effect but not majorly impressed. Usually use Maybelline Define-a-Lash (or something like that), with the green packaging.

AquaVit ~ I have some very sad news. Clinique Long Pretty Lashes mascara has been discontinued. If you can find a clinique counter that still has some then stock up. It's been my staple for years so I'm more than a little sad.

I've tried a few different mascaras recently and the best light but lengthening one I've found is No7 Lash Extensions mascara. Not ideal though as it flakes off during the day. Lovely Estee Lauder lady yesterday recommended Lash XL which I bought but forgot I had it this morning and used the No7 one again so I can't tell you if it's any good yet but will report back tomorrow.

Celery · 04/08/2010 14:18

Diorskin Nude. It's amazing.

ViveLaFrak · 04/08/2010 15:01

Is that the vibrating one, amandoh? I have that waiting to be tried.

What did you end up with mosschops?

GeekOfTheWeek · 04/08/2010 15:43

Clinique foundation.

Loreal telescopic lengths mascara, far far better than any of the lancome or benefit ones i have used.

aquavit · 04/08/2010 15:52

Amandoh - noooooo!! that is AWFUL news.

I tried the No7 one because had a £5 voucher - I thought it was absolutely terrible.

I want to know more about diorskin nude - will I like it if I mostly use tinted moisturiser? feel like I need something more for winter

sorky · 04/08/2010 15:56

YSL all the way here. I keep an old (but clean) Max Factor calorie 2000 wand and wipe away the excess from the YSL because their wand is pants. Best of both worlds imo.

Long, long lashes with no clumps at all.

I'm off foundation atm, just using Stila concealer and pressed powder, which is fantastic.

Someone was recommending Dior nude skin recently. I might give that a go.

sorky · 04/08/2010 15:57

whats the difference between the Chanel and Dior things then?

mosschops30 · 04/08/2010 16:56

I bought Chanel Vitalumiere, it felt and looked lovely on and was impressed that instead of just trying it on my arm, she removed my foundation and re-applied theirs, so I knew I was getting the right stuff.
Almost bought their mascara but at £21.50 I decided not to, although I may be tempted in future.
Ended up with the Rimmel Volume flash stuff, if its crap I will buy something on the plane thats more expensive when we go away.

Thanks for everyones posts

mossy DONT DO LANCOME
dior

Amandoh · 05/08/2010 01:05

Sorky ~ Chanel V is thicker than Dior Nude. The Dior Nude covers well and leaves your skin with a silky finish. It's incredibly long lasting. I pump a little on the back of my hand before applying and it takes hot water, soap and a really good rub to get it off my hand again.

I think Chanel V works well in winter months when your skin is drier and under pressure from central heating and air conditioning but in the warmer months when you need less coverage the Dior Nude is a better choice.

wubblybubbly · 05/08/2010 01:10

Just got a Mac foundation, it's great. Quite light coverage, but stays put, doesn't go blotchy or emphasise wrinkles/pores and it actually matches my skintone!

Loving Maybelline false lash stuff too, but whatever it is, it's got to be waterproof.
