how does one do arm coverage and NOT look middle aged?

I need something to wear with this dress for a special occasion. I keep looking at shrugs/boleros, but they're not great are they?

I've ordered this to see what it looks like.

What do you effortlessly glamour folk do if it's going to be a bit nippy? I can't really wear my coat all night in a restaurant...

stop worrying about your arms

no one will be looking

wear a wrap or something

AnitaBush · 17/07/2010 19:09

but it might be coooooooold in the restaurant!

wear a vest

Collision · 17/07/2010 19:13

I think it will look like a cardi over a stunning dress and that this would look far more stunning and dramatic.

TheMoonOnAStick · 17/07/2010 19:14

I really like that little shrug/cardi thingy you've ordered Anita. The sleeves are really different

Tbh I don't think the 'arm' dilemma is such a problem as we all think though if you did decide to do without. I mean we worry about ours but are we really super-critical about anyone else's? I bet no-one even notices.

I do love the little crop cardi's and shrugs though - they look ok imo. I can't get on with wraps - a huge pia whenever I've tried them.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 17/07/2010 19:15

no that bolero is way too fussy

a stole/pashmina/wrap more elegant

beanlet · 17/07/2010 19:17

I'd wear my funky leather jacket from All Saints with that dress.

AnitaBush · 17/07/2010 19:17

It will be my bloody arms that will be chilly not my belly!

I tend to agree about the cardi thing Collision. I wonder if I could tolerate a wrap - I'm just picturing it dipping in my soup.

cybilliberty · 17/07/2010 19:18

yes a hip jacket would look ...hip

AnitaBush · 17/07/2010 19:19

funky leather jacket sounds good. I'm off to google.

OP posts:
AnitaBush · 17/07/2010 19:27

Right i need hip. I've never worn a leather jacket but I'm imagining they're quite heavy right? I'm easily irritated by uncomfy clothing.

I bought one of these and now I wear it with everything. It looks really nice.

tethersend · 17/07/2010 19:53

What about suede?

tethersend · 17/07/2010 19:55

Or feathers?

wow some of those mint velvet things are bargainous this little cardi would go with ANYTHING but looks quite dressy

AnitaBush · 17/07/2010 21:00

ooh, that's nice cyb!

I don't think I'm brave enough for the full on fringey/feathers stuff tho. My shoulders don't need any help to look broad.

sincitylover · 17/07/2010 21:25

I love that mint velvet website and the cardigan in particular.

With that dress though would wear something sheer on the arms.

AnitaBush · 17/07/2010 21:37

sheer eh?

any examples cos I think I've looked at every website in the world?

Crunch... that grey long sleeved thingy is bloody gorgeous.... I want one now

Elemental · 17/07/2010 21:53

Gorgeous dress by the way!

These are quite nice, I think
nice details

always a fan of black lace

thelunar66 · 17/07/2010 21:59

Black lace thingy looks very good too.... think I might have that and the grey thingy.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 18/07/2010 02:18

Hope for the best always happy to help!

piprabbit · 18/07/2010 02:56

these are a different take on the wrap/shrug debate. I like the way they are quite unstructured.

Or this is a lovely cardi with sheer sleeves.

AnitaBush · 18/07/2010 09:00

Very interesting pip, the Karen Millen cardi would have been perfect I think, but only the tiniest sizes left.
