Help me dress for an important wedding please

BlueBumedFly · 16/07/2010 08:00

Here are my challenges;

  • Italian wedding with lots of gorgeous women/clothes
  • I am doing a reading
  • I have my 3 year old toddler with me
  • have recently shrunk down from size 16 to about a '13' if there was one
  • not too flush for cash

I was thinking red maybe, sleeves to some extent (church and arm coverers!) was thinking top and trousers, had elegant tunic type top with well tailored fitted cream trousers - already have lots of lovely shoes in many colours.

Help!! not so keen on dresses for a multitude if reasons. Also with 200 people at the wedding don't want to risk clashing with a high street number. It's august in the uk so chance of rain! As there are 30 kids at the wedding I will be needed to play too!

Any ideas for online boutique type places??

Is not wearing a dress a confidence thing?

I am sure plenty will disagree with me, but tunic and trousers doesn't seem 'dressy' enough. If you really don't want a dress, I will keep looking, but am going to lik to one anyway

Here

Here- could be worn with trousers?

BlueBumedFly · 16/07/2010 10:29

That is lovely, dress thing is down to pudgy thighs (not comfy) and a bit of a c-section tum to hide!

I'm wearing this to a wedding next week, after someone linked to it on another thread.

I know you said you'd rather not wear a dress, but the fabric is lovely and the cut is very forgiving and comfy. You could get a wrap or a cardi to cover your arms in the church.

Good luck!

tethersend · 16/07/2010 10:36

Well I'm sorry but that's simply not good enough

You are a size 13- you have made all that effort to slim down; you don't need to dress to hide yourself! A dress will be far more flattering, I promise. If you're worried about tummy and thigh rubbage, get something like this to wear underneath, and small heels you can still run after a toddler with to slim the silhouette.

Which dress did you like? I will look for more...

Bishoplyn · 16/07/2010 10:40

How tall are you?

What about a maxi dress...? I love that 'covered up' feeling but they can still look dressy.

niminypiminy · 16/07/2010 11:16

Inspired by tethersend's Jaeger link, what about this one? It's coral rather than red but such a beautiful dress (only reason I've not bought it myself is that coral is hideously unflattering on me)

tethersend · 16/07/2010 11:30

I love that dress too- am trying to persuade anyone who will listen to buy it; I also cannot wear it as I am too ginger.

BlueBumedFly · 16/07/2010 12:51

Hee hee - I 5ft 2", maybe too short for a maxi dress although I do like the sound of them!! What sort of cardigan jacket can you wear with a maxi dress?

Tethers - the first one was more me

Thanks - loving this personal shopping approach still thinking the maxi might be good?

Nimin - nice sigh, I am going to have to try this whole dress approach aren't I?

BlueBumedFly · 16/07/2010 12:52

Pickle - that is lovely... what are you wearing with it? Like the hide everything front!

OP posts:
tethersend · 16/07/2010 12:57

Would you do blue? This is nice and wouldn't need a jacket...

BlueBumedFly · 16/07/2010 12:57

Ooooooo loving this, (I know its not red) - not dressy enough?

Ahhh can never do those, hey ho, the link it there - what do you wear with that though?

BlueBumedFly · 16/07/2010 12:59

Wow tether, that is gorgeous.. OK, you have won me over with the whole dress thing... I really like that. Blue is cool too. I only said red as I have a rather fetching pair of red shoes

OP posts:
tethersend · 16/07/2010 13:01

This is also nice

tethersend · 16/07/2010 13:02

That all saints one you linked to is waaay to casual, BlueBumedFly...

BlueBumedFly · 16/07/2010 13:03

OK, really liking the maxi approach, think its more me. What length jacket/cardigan do you wear?

OP posts:
tethersend · 16/07/2010 13:06

Not sure if you have the budget, but this is gorgeous.

Picklepants · 16/07/2010 13:07

It's very nice on - I'm not a dress person at all usually, and I feel quite comfortable in it, which I think is half the battle. I'm wearing it with black accessories/silver jewellery.

Love the blue maxi dress tethersend! Maybe I should wear dresses more often...

Rindercella · 16/07/2010 13:10

I don't know if it's already been linked to on here (sorry, haven't clicked on any of the links), but I wore this IO dress to my sister's wedding when DD2 was just a few weeks old. I had so many comments about how amazing I was looking and how much weight I had lost! It is a seriously flattering dress.

It was actually the long sleeve version in blue I wore, but this short sleeve pink one is available in your size for a little under 50 quid. I think it's a bargain.

tethersend · 16/07/2010 13:10

Ok, maxi is good!

I wouldn't wear a jacket with that one, but in principle, I would wear a short bolero style jacket; something like this

Rindercella · 16/07/2010 13:14

Bugger me, the IO dress in pink is now only £26, I just bought one for me!!

traceybath · 16/07/2010 13:17

Short but not sure how tall you are

elegant

arm and tummy kind

maxi and £££ but oh so pretty

nice maxi and not too £££

Any of these - also like Tethers' viv one.

BlueBumedFly · 16/07/2010 13:32

Tracey - liking the last one lots, thank you for posting, never thought I would get so excited about dresses!!

Rinder - I actually have 3 weddings within 6 weeks so am going to buy one of those too!

Glad I came

Embrace the dress

tracey, that kimono maxi is gorgeous. I may have to sell a kidney.

traceybath · 16/07/2010 13:51

Kidneys are very over-rated tethers

Blue - yeay to getting some lovely dresses.
