In an attempt to avoid the mum-in-jeans trap, I want to invest in some everyday jersey dresses.

Where are the best places to look for them? Ideally I'd like something with long sleeves, or the sort of short / sleeveless type that could be worn with a cardigan in winter. I thought now might be a good time to look as so many places have sales on.

Thank you for your help

principles do good ones. And uniqlo

Celery · 11/07/2010 18:55

There is a lovely navy blue one in Joules at the moment. I think it's called the Natalie.

OllieWollieWoo · 11/07/2010 19:01

M&S had some good ones last Autumn. One sold loads - think it had 3/4 sleeves, a scoop neck and a drpey front - v flatteringf iir.
I like this one - bit on the smart side tho here
This one seems v good value: here

OllieWollieWoo · 11/07/2010 19:02

Foundn it - I think here

GeorginaWorsley · 11/07/2010 19:03

I have 2 from French Connection that I nbought a few years ago, plus Boden,in fact I got this

www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Dresses/Above-Knee-Dresses/WH202/Womens-Essential-Summer-Dress.html?Nav GroupID=4
in navy.Seems to be only available in Khaki now,but may come back in stock.

Also have some from Warehouse.

janeite · 11/07/2010 19:17

I like the look of that purple one. Most M&S ones come up too long on me though.

If you are tall, Phase Eight have loads in the sale at the moment but some of them veer from slightly frumpy to full-on frumpsville, so would need to try on and choose carefully, I think.

Iwantcats · 11/07/2010 19:17

I liked my Boden one but it got holes in it the first time I washed it (OK in the washing machine but c'mon who really handwashes? It was on the "handwash" cycle).

Lots of nice ones in Kaliko.

BEAUTlFUL · 11/07/2010 19:31

I second the Phase 8 suggestion. I bought a beautiful, beautiful non-frumpster one in the sales last week, reduced from £90 down to £20 in John Lewis!

LaCerbiatta · 11/07/2010 19:42

I got this one and it's lovely, not frumpy at all. Maybe it's the same one you have, BEAUTIFIL?

notyummy · 11/07/2010 19:47

I have this in purple, and honestly, I know it doesn't look exciting here, but it is LOVELY on. Could be worn with leggings and boots for casual - I do heels and opagues for work. (In spring/autumn/winter!)

WarrenPeace · 11/07/2010 19:47

I meant WALLIS

janeite · 11/07/2010 20:08

Tuga - see, that one was hideous for me. We must be v different shapes! Anything like that just makes my chest look like that woman in the Carry On Films - Hattie somebody maybe?

dexter73 · 11/07/2010 20:24

I have that ruched dress from Phase Eight in blue and it really suits me, but I don't have a large chest so maybe that is why!
Most shops seem to do jersey dresses. Have also seem them in Monsoon, Next, Dorothy Perkins, Fat Face.

emilyprentiss · 11/07/2010 20:43

wow, I went away for 2 hours and came back to loads of ideas! Thanks so much, think I'm definitely going to order one of the M&S ones as that's too good a price to turn down!

I didn't realise that Isabella Oliver did regular, non-maternity stuff. How very interesting.

Thanks again, everybody.

What are the sizes like from Isabella Oliver - what's a 12?

LaCerbiatta · 11/07/2010 21:12

That's the problem, isn't it? It all depends on each one's shape! I now try everything on, even if they look hideous or frumpy. Sometimes I'll be pleasantly surprised!
Abslolutely loved blue this one when I tried it on and didn't think I would! Couldn't justify the expense though....

janeite · 11/07/2010 21:14

That one is gorgeous - sadly, I don't think it would suit me.

cornsilky · 11/07/2010 21:14

that's gorgeous

emilyprentiss · 11/07/2010 21:19
