Anyone want to join me in stopping vaping?

I've vaped for about 6 years. I stopped smoking cigarettes 15 years ago, but then started vaping when I was stressed with work. I now find I vape almost continuously. I've had a sore throat on and off for most of this year.

I need to stop.

Unfortunately due to other health issues I'm not working at present, so not particularly busy to keep me occupied. I have anxiety problems that often keep me at home.

Would anyone like to join me in supporting each other?

Going to start crocheting in front of the telly to keep my hands busy

DrDolittlesParrot · 31/12/2020 12:03

Hi @SunshineOutdoors . Yes please join us. I'm not working at present and my vape is constantly in my hand. I'm going to knit in the evenings to keep my hands busy. In the daytime I'll try and get out more and just in general keep busy.

Being home all day has definitely contributed to my use - there is nothing to stop me vaping all the time.

I have enough for the day and am going to bin it when I go to bed - start the new year with gum.

I spend as long worrying about it as I did with cigarettes- there is really no upside.

DrDolittlesParrot · 31/12/2020 13:07

Yes, I'm the same. I guess at first I thought it was safe but now my sore throat worries me all the time and I've a cough in the morning. I reckon if I could stop smoking, I can stop vaping too.

Do you chew the gum when you get the urge to vape? I'll have to get the pack out ready.. I've had it for a while now, just been putting it off.

I'll throw away my coils and eliquid in the outside bin at midnight, pack my ecig away in the shed where I can't see it.

I gave up vaping for a couple of weeks (started again) but what worked for me was using patches and I put 0% nicotine in my vape, after a few days the desire to vape wore off and I was happy with just the patches, I plan to try again like this

DrDolittlesParrot · 31/12/2020 13:38

Thanks @MissSmiley. Sadly I think I'm addicted to the actual inhaling rather than the nicotine so not sure that would work for me, plus I'd still have the dry mouth and sore throat. I hope it works for you though. Keep us posted?

@DrDolittlesParrot that's what I thought too, get a bottle of 0% and give it a try, honestly it'll really turn you off it

DrDolittlesParrot · 31/12/2020 14:21

I don't think there's anywhere nearby with 0% tbh and I'm not going into town. I'll bear it in mind though.

Hi ladies just checking in! Last night of vaping for me tonight Grin vape will be broken into the bin when we head to bed! I need to break it otherwise I can see a hungover me rooting through the bins in the morning and it wouldn't be pretty!

I had gum 3 times today to begin the process and must say I've enjoyed it, it kind of scratches your throat slightly which is a weird thing to enjoy but I do 🤣 i also bought alot of herbal teas today because I associate coffee with vaping so will try to avoid it for a while!

Anyway ill check back in tomorrow & just want to wish you all a happy new year Flowers

DrDolittlesParrot · 31/12/2020 19:41

Hi @Thesmellofolfbooks. I must admit I'm not feeling great about giving it up, but I'm going to. Good luck all Star and happy new year. I'll check in tomorrow.

How are you all planning to keep busy?

Not long to go now! I'm just sat watching TV, but have vaped a lot. Kind of looking forward to getting rid of it. I want to reinvent myself in 2021, get off my phone a bit more and learn something or start a new hobby. As a non vaping person. Good luck all Wine

Happy new year all.

I've done it, thrown away my coils and eliquid. Emptied out my ecig and packed it away. Here's to a new start!

Excellent, let’s all make it to the end of today and we’ve done day 1.

SunshineOutdoors · 01/01/2021 11:24

On my second nicotine lozenge....

Notonthestairs · 01/01/2021 12:13

I'm chewing gum, feeling dreadful (waaaaayyy too much of everything last night). I'm not missing the vape yet - I think that will come tomorrow.

DrDolittlesParrot · 01/01/2021 12:35

I didn't drink much, so am feeling ok for now. I've got my nicotine gum ready, but haven't chewed any yet. I did go to bed really late and lie in late though.

Yes let's get through today, and take it a day at a time.

How's everyone getting on? I've tried to keep busy, I went for a walk, cleaned, took down the Christmas decorations, and felt ok. Now dd wants to watch TV with me and I'm struggling, I literally keep almost reaching out to pick up my vape. I'm gong to try knitting to distract myself.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

I keep getting pangs but it’s really helpful having this thread for accountability. Determined to do it this time. Sucking the lozenges like sweets at the moment but will go down to 1mg when this pack’s finished.

DrDolittlesParrot · 01/01/2021 20:02

I've just chewed my first piece of nicotine chewing gum, it tastes ok and I like the sort of buzz from it.

Glad you're doing ok @SunshineOutdoors

I've eaten a lot of chocolate Blush but will take today as a win.
Tomorrow will be more difficult for me I think. Will keep checking in.

DrDolittlesParrot · 01/01/2021 22:34

I've eaten a lot of everything Blush but I'll try and get to grips with that once I'm not craving anymore. I'll go to bed soon, that's one day over then.

DrDolittlesParrot · 02/01/2021 15:29

I've chewed quite a lot of gum so far today. Feeling irritated and a bit down and having awful cravings.

OP posts:
SunshineOutdoors · 02/01/2021 15:34

Stick at it, I’m here with you. Just got to get through today. Keep chewing the gum. I’m planning a big long bath later. It will get easier! I’m finding it hard, but not as hard as when I quit cigs. If I can do that, I can do this!

Notonthestairs · 02/01/2021 17:16

That's a good reminder Sunshine - we've beaten the cigarettes before so this should be doable.

Went for a long walk in the mud, done a lot of laundry and general cleaning, permanently feel like I have forgotten something and then remember- no vaping! Going to give myself jaw ache with the amount of chewing gum I'm doing. Might start swooping our nicotine gum with normal gum towards the end of the week.

DrDolittlesParrot · 02/01/2021 20:00

I'm chewing a lot of gum too. I know it's just a matter of getting through these first few days/weeks, and them I'll think about it less. I'd just forgotten how physical the craving is. I've not done enough today either as I'm tired from not sleeping well. The weather is awful so I've not been out, but I really need to make an effort to go out every day.
