Anyone want to join me in stopping vaping?

DrDolittlesParrot · 30/12/2020 12:12

I've vaped for about 6 years. I stopped smoking cigarettes 15 years ago, but then started vaping when I was stressed with work. I now find I vape almost continuously. I've had a sore throat on and off for most of this year.

I need to stop.

Unfortunately due to other health issues I'm not working at present, so not particularly busy to keep me occupied. I have anxiety problems that often keep me at home.

Would anyone like to join me in supporting each other?

I prefer the lozenges to gym as you just leave one sitting between your teeth and gums instead of chewing #lazy. Know what you mean about feeling like you’ve forgotten something/something’s missing. If I watch other people vaping it looks a bit ridiculous to me, which I need to remember (not like smoking which ashamedly I still think looks ‘cooler’). We can do this! Day 2 nearly done....

SunshineOutdoors · 02/01/2021 20:56

Gum not gym. Although I do also prefer them to the gym.

Anyone still going today?

DrDolittlesParrot · 03/01/2021 20:14

I completely lost it yesterday, due to other problems I couldn't cope. I'm going to concentrate on cutting down and vaping a lower eliquid. Hope you're all doing better than me.

@DrDolittlesParrot it’s so hard. Don’t beat yourself up. I’ve tried about a hundred times before and never cracked it. What strength were you on before you tried stopping? I found jumping down to the next level was too much so I used to mix half and half of two different strengths to ease the weaning down. That might work for you. Do you still want to stay on the thread? Would be nice to have someone to chat to and see how your new approach works for you.

DrDolittlesParrot · 03/01/2021 22:01

Thanks @SunshineOutdoors. I've been vaping 12mg, I might try mixing 6 and 12.

It also makes my throat sore, I'm not sure if it's the high nicotine or high pg.

I wouldn’t be able to stop from 12mg. You did great to do 2 days! Yep I’d mix 12 and 6 half and half or even 75%/25% and then have a goal of getting down to 6mg in a couple of weeks time.

DrDolittlesParrot · 04/01/2021 17:52

Thanks. I've ordered some 6mg and will mix them first to gradually decrease the nicotine content.

Sorry I dropped off the thread - the build up to last night's announcement sent me in to a spin. I haven't vaped yet but I am struggling, haven't slept and quite tearful. Not sure what I'm going to do as yet - might shelve it for now or might push on.
Good luck with the lower mg - that might be the best way to tackle it.

SunshineOutdoors · 05/01/2021 23:52

Keep at it @Notonthestairs I’m here with you! Are you using any nicotine replacement? I’m still sucking the lozenges like crazy. Will stick with them until I break the hand to mouth habit and then slowly lower the dose/phase them out. Am playing a long game though....

LongIslandIcedT · 15/01/2021 05:23

Good luck everyone.
I chucked out my vape on NYD. I used it constantly for the last 7 years on 18mg.
It's been tough, not gonna lie. The first few days were awful but now it's habit reshaping.

Things that have helped cravings; taking 5 deep breaths and having a water bottle with a straw, it is the same sucking action but loads healthier.

I'm through the worst of it now 2 weeks on and can't see me going back to it.

I’m looking to stop vaping and found this thread. Anyone want to pick it up? How did the quitting go?

Totallyaddictedtoshoes · 15/09/2021 10:18

I have just found this thread and have quit today. I've been thinking about it for a while as working from home I've found I'm constantly reaching for it. The batteries in both have become really unreliable and I wanted to quit when I didn't feel I needed it, as opposed to finding it's not charged when I really wanted it. We are away this weekend so I know it's going to be tough, but I will succeed!

Hi all, I did what others did. Stepped down from 11mg, then to 6 and then to 3. Eventually you get to 0 and it feels pointless.

Hope everybody on the thread is doing well.

Good luck everyone! I have been a heavy smoker for a ling time then moved onto vaping 6-7 years ago. Started with 6mg then down to 3mg sometimes mixing 6 with 3 mg- I was happily vaping until I had Covid in December last year and I had a pretty bad one my oxygen levels were so down but luckily I didn't have to go to hospital and it took me about a month to just to start feel right again. So I told my DH to remove all vape related stuff from my desk and everywhere as I knew as soon as I felt good I would jump on it. Well it will be almost a year I am proud to say I am still vape and smoke free- I must say I struggle sometimes but I remember how bad I had the Covid and it is now or never! So, please hang in there and carry on you are all on the right pathSmile

@Nomores When I struggled so much especially on a very stressful day at work - how many times I found myself looking online to get my kit again but then I had to keep reminding myself 'it is really now or never' for me! If I started one puff I will not want to stop again! You need a lot of self reminders

I'm 6 weeks in now and despite a few very grumpy times, mainly when I'd had a drink the first couple of weekends, I'm quite surprised how trauma-free it's been. I don't really think about it anymore tbh. At the beginning whenever vaping came into my mind, I used to think to myself it's something I used to do but now I don't. I found that helped me box it up in my head a little better. I have eaten far too much chocolate, biscuits and general snacks tho, but I'm trying not to beat myself up about it as I am working on sorting that now I've lost any cravings. Good luck to everyone.

Totallyaddictedtoshoes · 23/03/2022 17:55

Over 6 months now. Pretty safe to say I QUIT!

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 04/01/2023 22:41

I quit - cheeky puff on the 2nd but two full days of nothing yesterday and today. There are easy and hard parts.
Doing dry Jan as well, and back to running.
Only issue is I'm eating all round me 🙈 but short term issue for long term gain.
