Advice for my daughter

I will be drumming this into my daughters head.

DO NOT get into relationship/marry a man that already has children, run for the hills! Too much hassle than it's worth. There's always some crazy, bitter ex to deal with! (Very rare you don't)

You and any children you have with him will lose out because society has it that 'first families' are higher in the pecking order.

Nah I do agree it should be more and we do try split as many costs with dps ex as possible and help out where ever needed. And childcare definitely should be split and when dp and his ex split while she was studying he paid for the childcare as well as obviously this made him able to work too! Not just so her mum could study as both are responsible. luckily they're both very good and the step parenting isn't so bad.

Vehemently disagree with the OP. Step children have enriched my life and the life of my DD. DH gave his XW their house and paid enough maintenance to ensure that his first family were comfortable financially. And that's as it should be.

Yes his XW has been unpleasant and difficult from time to time, but that is to be expected I guess. Overall, I'm very happy that I married a man with children.
