Doesn't call me mummy!

I have a lovely DSD 8 and my DS 2 copies everything she does. He is calling me my name instead of mummy!

Not a moan just an observation of modern life in step families :)

Anyone else got any funny side effects from the blending (such a funny term that!)

Just explain it to him and tell him that you are 'mummy' and not your name.

After that just correct him each time and don't answer to your name.

It's not worked neither has not answering to it - know it will pass so not too worried just rather odd when were out

Just the slow drip effect then-everytime he says 'planet' just say 'mummy' before you reply-like a broken record.

I used to b e a nanny and the little boy I looke after called his dad by his name around the same age as your son. His mother asked if I had taught him to do it . Kids just sometimes do this type of thing.

My children have all gone through a phase of calling me by my name. Nothing to do with so called "blended" families.

As a teacher I was often called mummy. (occasionally daddy which was more worrying!)

Yeah, I think it's all normal(ish). I think I need to be more consistent - I know it is down to copying his sister. Have turned this round on him though and use it to my advantage and if I want him to start doing something like not stand so close to the tv I get DSD to ask him and show him big boys sit on the sofa. Hey presto it's done poo poo head teaching was not so good

They all got over it. I remember PFB DS1 sitting in his pushchair on the front path whilst I unloaded the car calling my name at the top of his voice over and over again.

....and exotic was so embarrassing when you called the teacher mum!

soup i do actually find it a bit strange/worrying when he does it whilst telling me off! Ahhh 2 year olds hey

My DS calls me by my name, especially if talking about me to others (he has never said "my mum"). He's an only child, he doesn't hear anyone else call me mum. He does call me mum, but refers to me by my name.

It's not just blended families.

I like it.

over thinking about it DS is the only person who should call me mummy. DSD calls me by name and DD after all the weight gain, stretch marks, career breaks, sleepless nights can only say one word DADDA!! Poor me ha ga I'm going to turn into one of those people who refer to themselves as mummy

Planet- my DD did the same but grew out of it by age 6

To the point that people though that she was also one of my DSDs.

Hah! At least you got yuur name. My DS called me "laptop" for a year as that is what I was always carrying.

They do get embarrassed when they put their hand up in class and start with 'mummy'! If you want them to use mummy you really have to start very early with 'give mummy the cup' etc otherwise they never hear it.

6! He better be doing it by Christmas or he's getting coal

I do refer to myself as mummy as in pass mummy the cup but not "DH could you put the bin out mummy is pooped!)

Been concentrating on it today and lots more mummies coming

I pointed out to DD (5) that anyone could call me by my name but there were only three people in the whole wide world who could call me mummy and she damn well better use it.

As an aside, at 2 she used to call DS2 by his name and DS1 Brother.

SoupDragon, you've just reminded me my 3 year old calls one sister by her nickname and calls the other Girl!

My DS1, when he was a toddler called all teenage boys by my brother's name as that was the only teenager he knew iyswim?

So we would be in the supermarket and he would say "Look at that Joe over there mum" instead of "look at that boy" - a "Joe" being a teenaged boy

(PS it wasn't Joe but you get my drift)

Some of these stories are so funny! I love 'girl' and 'brother'

I'm told that I used to think my eldest brother was called Boys because when my mum called him and my other brother, it was him that always arrived first :)
