For those who don't know - but perhaps them or their children were inspired by the Lionesses great win last night, the Women's Rugby World Cup kicks-off in England next month - with tickets available from as little as £10 ( a few of these are double headers - so two games on the same day for the price of one ticket)

England's Red Roses are the bookies favourites and it's a great chance to see world class sport up close and personal - https://tickets.rugbyworldcup.com/

Great match between South Africa and the Black Ferns.
really enjoyed it - I was supporting the underdogs but New Zealand prevailed!

CarpetKnees · 13/09/2025 16:41

I am enjoying this World Cup SO much.

I've never been much of a rugby fan but am just loving the atmosphere, the stories, the interviews, the explanations the commentators are giving those of us that aren't experts. The whole package.

outofdate · 14/09/2025 15:21

Ireland were absolutely amazing in their match v France. That final lineout was excruciating but the conditions made rugby so tricky.

outofdate · 14/09/2025 19:07

Conditions terrible for England v Scotland but the match was so entertaining and a convincing win for England. So pleased that Scotland got a well deserved try though right at the end.

I’ve never cried watching a game before but I have tonight!! Well done Canada! Amazing amazing amazing!

nhsmanagersanonymous · 19/09/2025 23:50

I saw Canada play live in the group stages and thought they looked strong but oh my goodness they played unbelievably tonight. Totally without fear. Incredible.

So so happy for the Canadian women's team, especially after they had to launch a crowdfunding appeal to cover their costs to even just attend this World Cup.

They thoroughly deserved their win as the underdogs and I really really hope that they win the final for a fairytale ending.

Same.. if we’re going to lose in a final let it be to them!

TheNightingalesStarling · 20/09/2025 18:11

I think my 12yo DDs excitement has just doubled. Not only is her first time to a "proper" game the World Cup final... England is in that final.
Then its her first U14 game of the season the next day.

Here's an observation- I really don't think that you would get the same view about Canada if it the men's team in the final.

I really think that this is what makes this Women's Rugby World Cup so beautiful, that whatever the result, whatever the team there are women supporting women.

TrumptyDumpty · 21/09/2025 15:54

We go to a lot of rugby matches and have tickets for the final, really going to be something special! The third place play off should be a cracker too! Have a great time everyone who are going, HQ is brilliant especially for a women's game. They normally do free face painting in the fan zone so get there nice and early as there will be loads going on!

TizerorFizz · 24/09/2025 20:45

Canada haven’t been underdogs! Tipped to do well from the start. We’ve felt it’s been a bit underwhelming. England look like a steam roller - they will probably win but they are well funded when compared to many others. The playing field is not very even! It shows.

I agree England will probably win as they have been way better funded and supported than the other countries (but still significantly less so than the Men's team).

That said I really want Canada as the under funded underdog to win - it would be a fairy tale ending.

KnickerlessParsons · 24/09/2025 23:56

Canada most certainly aren’t underdogs. They are ranked second in the world rankings.
We’re off to Twickers on Saturday and I’ll be cheering them on!

TizerorFizz · 25/09/2025 13:22

@1dayatatime Rugby has serious financial issues. Clubs going bankrupt. Unless women get huge audiences, where is the money coming from? Take it away from the men? It probably doesn’t need it right now. It’s been a bit predictable and boring I’m afraid. Too few teams are competitive.

I completely agree that rugby has serious financial issues. I also think that the best way to support women's sports whether that be football, rugby or whatever is to go and watch the game either live or on TV.

It's no good complaining that women football players get paid less than men or women's rugby is underfunded compared to men's if a lot less people watch women's sports compared to men's.

mdinbc · 27/09/2025 02:43

As a Canadian I’m looking forward to the match tomorrow. I don’t even know the game but will follow along tomorrow!

I think this event has done a lot for woman’s sport in the media, and the country is pumped up for the game!

Weepingwillows12 · 27/09/2025 07:24

I am going today and really looking forward to it. I think it's a really big step forward for women's rugby, albeit the results have been a bit predictable (top 2 ranked teams in the final, next two in the bronze playoff). Still too big a gap between the top and bottom teams but I hope this world cup will encourage some nations to better fund their teams and it might be more competitive next time. What I have really loved is how good all the teams have been on social media and the amount of news coverage. My in laws even have been watching and the dads at my son's rugby team are all chatting about it the way they would the men's game (knowing players etc). That's hugely different to even 4 years ago. I love it.

CarpetKnees · 27/09/2025 12:50

I have to agree.
My (adult) dd and my dh are there today.
Last year, when they were booking the tickets, I wasn't really bothered, but, by today, I am cross with myself for not getting a ticket too.
I'm a football gal at heart but have SO enjoyed this World Cup.
The TV and other media coverage has been superb - taking new fans like me along with them. The tournament has been fantastic.

GlastoNinja · 27/09/2025 16:34

Really love that they are explaining some of the basics for new fans.

bloodredfeaturewall · 27/09/2025 16:53

love it!

wish they would explain the mouthguards/head injury assessments a bit more as I find that fascinating.
also like that viewers are more 'in' the game due to the microphones the umpire wears.

Talkinpeace · 27/09/2025 17:47

WOW
just WOW

The atmosphere at Twickenham must be something else

StrongLikeMamma · 27/09/2025 18:24

🎉🎉🎉🎉

GlastoNinja · 27/09/2025 18:55

Amazing. So emotional seeing the young girls, inspired by this.

KnickerlessParsons · 27/09/2025 21:31

I was at the match today. Not English and would have rather liked Canada to win, but it was a fanatic day out. Not so much for the rugby - the result was inevitable - the best funded team won- but for the whole of women’s sport. The atmosphere was so much more joyful than in the men’s game and it was great to see so many families there. The “groundsmen” were all women, most of the flag bearers too, and they said that lots of the camera crew and production team were women too.
I got quite emotional just thinking about it at one point!
The attendance was >81,000 - the most that’s ever watched a women’s rugby match.
congratulations to the English Rugby Union for putting on a blinder of a tournament. It’s been absolutely fantastic.
