For those who don't know - but perhaps them or their children were inspired by the Lionesses great win last night, the Women's Rugby World Cup kicks-off in England next month - with tickets available from as little as £10 ( a few of these are double headers - so two games on the same day for the price of one ticket)

England's Red Roses are the bookies favourites and it's a great chance to see world class sport up close and personal - https://tickets.rugbyworldcup.com/

I was at the match today. Not English and would have rather liked Canada to win, but it was a fanatic day out. Not so much for the rugby - the result was inevitable - the best funded team won- but for the whole of women’s sport. The atmosphere was so much more joyful than in the men’s game and it was great to see so many families there. The “groundsmen” were all women, most of the flag bearers too, and they said that lots of the camera crew and production team were women too.
I got quite emotional just thinking about it at one point!
The attendance was >81,000 - the most that’s ever watched a women’s rugby match.
congratulations to the English Rugby Union for putting on a blinder of a tournament. It’s been absolutely fantastic.

I completely agree - regardless of the result the winner was the popularity of women's sports. There is no point arguing that men's football players get paid more than the women or there is less publicity or sponsorship etc if fewer people watch the women's games.

Yesterday's game had an attendance of 81k second only to the men's final in 2003 of 82.9k.

'Witnessing a generational moment' - the numbers behind record-breaking Rugby World Cup 2025

The records have tumbled all the way through #RWC2025, starting from the opening game and set to end in a thrilling climax at the Allianz Stadium this Saturday

Hopefully Australia will use similarly sized stadiums in 4 years time.

Happy to be corrected, but I don’t think rugby has such a big following in Aus, although the Lions tour was well attended.
We’re hoping the ticket packages for the next women’s WC might be reasonably priced - unlike the Lions tour.

@KnickerlessParsons It’s all about supply and demand and what the market dictates. The Lions is a different market to women’s rugby in Aus and elsewhere.

The big problem facing men and women’s rugby is that club rugby is a minority sport. It’s barely paying its way and clubs have gone bankrupt. Stadiums for watching the clubs are fairly small and I’m not sure they even have relegation and promotion. The football EFL and Prem is a very different set up and fans have a life long passion. Rugby fans only care deeply about internationals and The Lions when parting with their money. Let’s see what happens to women’s clubs between now and the next World Cup. I suspect it will be hard going.
