Anyone else already getting excited & assuming the weekend is going to be a write-off?
Working today but have 5Live commentary on for now, was already late waking up kids & getting in the shower.
Love the Ryder Cup so much!
Go Team Europe!

I'm insanely jealous @Chemenger !

Chemenger · 30/09/2023 11:06

You have to feel for the American fans (a bit) but the US team is woeful. They seem never to have played competitive golf before. They couldn’t find the fairway with a map. Apparently there is an illness, possibly “the sniffles” running through their team, just them crying in their team room I think.

Chemenger · 30/09/2023 11:08

It is a mad event, we got here before 6.30 and the stand on the 1st tee was more or less full, 5000 people. The Swedish suit guys must have been here from 5am to get prime position.

Chemenger · 30/09/2023 11:13

Viktor Hovland looks like he is out for a casual game of pitch and putt in his local park, he is so relaxed. Ludvig Aberg is much the same, so cool, especially since he’s never even played in a Major.

JaneKatSuttonGoals · 30/09/2023 11:17

Sounds fab! Even more so from the way we are playing.
I won my bet again this morning on Europe winning foursomes. Lost yesterday's on a tie for fourbaĺls. My bet on US to win this afternoon made 2 days ago looks awful now...

Wow @Chemenger have a fabulous time ⛳️

Chemenger · 30/09/2023 12:44

Unfortunately it is now unbearably hot, no shade anywhere. All of the stands are absolutely in the sun, any tiny patches of shade full of sweaty brits.

BIWI · 30/09/2023 13:17

My abiding memory of Paris is how fucking cold it was in the morning! Especially as we had a 5.30am start each day, being driven from the hotel. Thankfully a friend who came with us, happened to have a family contact who was one of the chefs in the media tent, so we were able to shelter in there and get some hot coffee and (free) breakfast.

JaneKatSuttonGoals · 30/09/2023 20:26

Another exciting session even if the result didn't go our way.
Fingers & toes crossed for tomorrow - the Americans were certainly a lot more a team this afternoon.

Not such a great afternoon. But poised nicely for tomorrow

Chemenger · 01/10/2023 07:22

No, we only got tickets for one day in the ballot. To be honest I didn’t enjoy the afternoon because of the heat so I’m glad we’re not going back. So many people were complaining about the lack of shade, including a group from Florida we met over dinner who also found it unbearable, and they should be used to heat. No shade and absolutely no wind combined was too much. I’m looking forward to the cold in Ireland in 4 years.
I think the European team just ran out of adrenaline in the afternoon, and the Americans finally got a few good bounces and putts sinking. It’s a good score from the point of view of there being some competition today. We’ll have a lie in and watch on TV.
I would still recommend anyone to try and get tickets, the atmosphere is amazing. Rome has been full of friendly golf fans in the evenings as well.

Chemenger · 01/10/2023 09:10

I forgot the oddest feature of the day - Vernon Kaye was DJing in the evening in the fan village. We didn’t stay.

Chemenger · 01/10/2023 10:38

We went out to do some sightseeing in Rome this morning, failed to get into the Forum because we had a paid for ticket and today is free entry (Italian logic). Stopped in a bar which by chance has the Ryder Cup on TV and now I suspect we are here for a while.

BIWI · 01/10/2023 10:55

Good start for Europe! An important psychological achievement, I think

StormzyinaTCup · 01/10/2023 10:58

Vernon Kaye😁
Thanks for your 'on the ground' postings @Chemenger
I have just registered an interest on the website for Ireland 2027 for DH 60th birthday so will wait and see what happens.

Looking forward to today's play 🇪🇺

piscofrisco · 01/10/2023 16:17

What an afternoon! Amazing!!

Chemenger · 01/10/2023 17:54

Phew! The singles day is always stressful.

makeminealargeoneagain · 01/10/2023 18:42

Great team performance for Europe. Luke Donald has to be given another go at leading this young team.

JaneKatSuttonGoals · 01/10/2023 23:55

Just caught up on the highlights coz I was out this pm (very bad planning)
Great day - really full of twists & turns.
Congrats Team Europe. Would be great for Luke Donald to have another go in 2 years.

@Chemenger they were interviewing Vernon Kay yesterday & I missed the beginning so had no idea why - makes sense now although probably best swerved.

@StormzyinaTCup I bought a package from a specialist golf holiday company when we went - guarantees you tickets, plus also a hotel and transport to/from the course. (Can’t remember the name of the company but you should be able to find one via Google.). It was definitely worth it - can’t remember if I paid a premium for that, but probably - as it meant not having to go through the ballot process.

algasport · 02/10/2023 09:25

Wow I was glued to this!
Never thought I'd be able to follow golf on my phone!
Fantastic performance Europe!

StormzyinaTCup · 02/10/2023 19:31

@BIWI thank you, I didn't know there were options other than the ballot so that's good to know and I have also saved your link. I will definitely be giving 2025 a swerve as the prices are😳 and I really don't like flying (would love to go to New York) so will save my money for 2027.
