Can't find a thread so thought I'd start one nice and early for some pre chat.

Really don't think either England or Wales are going to get out of the pool rounds 🙁

I agree. I've lost most of my interest now. It's going to be an RSA v NZ final I reckon and I'm not sure if I can even be bothered watching.

Why?

Its still rugby, I would watch wherever they come from because I enjoy the sport!

duc748 · 15/10/2023 22:23

Best just to get the two best teams in the final. SA are a fine side, and there really was nothing between them and France there. Dupont never deserves to be on the losing side!

algasport · 15/10/2023 22:30

I enjoy watching even more as a neutral so the final will be great!

duc748 · 15/10/2023 22:34

That was the best game of rugby union that I have seen in a very long time.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 15/10/2023 22:38

We’ve got Bob Hope and no hope against SA.

What is it with the southern hemisphere teams being able to go up a gear in the knockout stages in world cups, why can't 6 nations teams do the same?

Well done England. I'll be amazed if it's not a NZ SA final

Playing under intense pressure is something else, NZ have collapsed at times with it. England are actually pretty good when it comes to knock out rugby, meanwhile the Boks just seem to have nerves of steel lol.

KnickerlessParsons · 16/10/2023 00:49

I probably will watch. I love rugby.
Just feeling a bit piqued because all the teams I wanted to win this weekend lost: Fiji, Wales, France, Ireland. I really wanted France of Ireland to win the whole shebang (as it was never a realistic possibility for Wales tbh), but here we are with a likely RSA v NZ final. I feel gutted for Ireland and France.

I haven't been active on the thread as, inevitably, I don't really get to focus on the pool games. But what a weekend. And of course, GO BOKKE! Grin.

There is something about the SA and NZ teams I think that you just can never ever count them out. They don't know how to quit. Siya talks often about doing it for the entire country back home and honestly, I don't think he's blowing smoke. It's genuinely true. He, in particular, is just an incredible role model and hero to so many South Africans.

isthismylifenow · 16/10/2023 09:46

Well, gosh that was something else on the nerves side of things. I think every French and every South African supporter were on the edge of their seats with no nails left.

I am a Saffer in SA, so of course I am elated at the score. But it could have gone either way, both teams played an excellent game.

Due to the time difference, these later games end around 11pm here. I am not sure many here actually slept a decent nights sleep after this game. Many people re-watched it, SM was abuzz all through the night, most customers I have spoken to today are kind of on the groggy side 😃 My dd works in hospitality and they had to chuck every one out at 2am. Poor kid got home after 3am.

And this was a QF game!!

I am deeply sad for Ireland though. There is no tactic behind my thinking (there has been talk of Southern Hemisphere tactics, which I am not so sure about personally), but I just felt Ireland got such an unfair blow due to the pools.

This is absolutely true @MsMarch, you have summed it up perfectly.

algasport · 20/10/2023 20:20

Anyone watching?
All Blacks looking good.

Hellocatshome · 20/10/2023 20:25

Yes I'm watching. I'm a bit disappointed it doesn't look likely to be a close match. I predict a NZ/SA final but can't pick a winner.

GrouchyKiwi · 20/10/2023 20:34

I was hoping for a bit more from Argentina but they've been looking a bit overcome by the event so far. I hope they show their ability soon.

algasport · 20/10/2023 20:35

I agree and hoping for NZ to win the final

duc748 · 20/10/2023 21:26

Looks like it was all over in the first half.

algasport · 20/10/2023 21:27

No contest

HewasH20 · 20/10/2023 21:46

Haven't even spotted any dodgy calls from Dicko on the lines

GrouchyKiwi · 20/10/2023 22:01

Didn't expect that big a score difference. Boys are looking good for next week.

Hope it's a good match tomorrow. Especially hope it's extremely hard-fought so the winners are very tired for the final. Wink

isthismylifenow · 21/10/2023 16:33

Checking in again for our upcoming game tonight.

What is the atmosphere like in England pre-match? Here (SA) it's electric. Everyone kitted out in their supporters shirts, I can already hear the festivities starting on our road. 9pm start here.

Just a dreadful downside to this was the death threat SA's Cobus Reinach got this week, threatening him should he head back to play for Montpellier. As if that wasn't bad enough they threatened his child too. What is wrong with people!

All the best to both of our teams and hoping to watch a very good game tonight.

Atmosphere here in UK (London suburbs) is expecting to get beaten by the Springboks!

I think if I passed by pubs then I’d see supporters in team shirts but in hospital visiting SIL who’s had her second baby so not seen many!

Floralnomad · 21/10/2023 17:49

I don’t think anyone who is realistic is that optimistic about Englands chances , I just hope they make a better attempt than the England cricket team have today .

MainlyOnThePlain · 21/10/2023 18:05

I can't see England winning but I'd like to think they'll find enough pride to put up a bit of graceless, and painful to watch resistance.

Peaceandquietfinally · 21/10/2023 18:09

If England go out tonight ,I will be hoping the all blacks win . Best friend a kiwi in Auckland and husband is ex Wales rugby player .

Floralnomad · 21/10/2023 18:18

If England go out tonight , as expected , im not sure I will summon up any interest in the final as I didnt want either SA or NZ to win .

Wakemeuuuup · 21/10/2023 18:20

Good luck to England tonight. I'm expecting South Africa to win would be delighted if England do
