At the moment it's pre-season testing and they are in Bahrain as that is where the first race happens

Is anyone watching the preseason testing at the moment?

Anyone follow the WTF1 personnel change over the past few weeks (social media channel) and that Tommy & Matt have set up P1 with just Matt & Tommy as co-owners?

I'm really looking forward to seeing what progress the other teams have been able to make since RBR had their wind tunnel time reduced due to their overspend in 2022 (that was their punishment for doing that).

Happy race weekend everyone!

.... fooking finally!

Sulusu · 28/04/2023 15:33

Leclerc pole and both McLaren's in the top 10 is nice. Those McLaren upgrades have made a big difference.

Bad day for Mercedes with George only 11th, and a terrible day for Alpine who also brought lots of upgrades this weekend.

Tilda77 · 28/04/2023 16:02

One down side of this format was I couldn't watch qualifying live as I was at work. I'll have to watch it later. Nice to see someone other than a red bull on pole!

ZiggZagg · 29/04/2023 04:40

Hi everyone!

My DD16 is massively into F1. She has ASD and this is her obsession. So, wanting to spend time with her, I've been watching and got quite into it myself, although still a definite newbie.

I've been reading along and just bringing things up to her which has impressed her, so just bobbing on to say thanks Grin

If it wasn't a street circuit I'd be on the same page here but with 2 red flags and Gasley's car going on fire in FP1, the smallest mistake by another driver can completely scupper your lap.

Enjoy the Sprint Quali and Race today!

What do you think k about the Fernando/Taylor Swift rumour?

My cynical mind says that he will retire later this year and move to America for Indycar or similar. This way his name gets out across the whole of the US.

Anyway, I find the whole sprint thing a bit off if I'm honest. Entertainment over sport, but hey, I'm happy to be entertained.

It will be an interesting weekend hopefully. I'm happy we have 5 races over the next 6 weeks as I am a happier bunny during race weeks. Smile

Welcome!
My DC has autism and this is a special interest for them too.

Although I'm a life long F1 fan too. Who is your daughter's favourite driver @ZiggZagg ?

Baku does tend to throw up some chaos so maybe today won't be straightforward for the Red Bulls.

Brazilianadventure · 29/04/2023 10:33

Where have the Ferrari’s found the speed from? With the long straight and their DRS advantage this should be a RB track.

WRT Fernando - I think he can’t believe it and is just playing the joke.

SaveMeFromForearms · 29/04/2023 12:22

I think Alonso is having a lot of fun with the rumour. But if it is true...lucky Taylor 😁

Sulusu · 29/04/2023 13:41

Troll Alonso is my favourite version of Alonso. He is having a lot of fun with the journalists this year that's for sure 😀

What a surprise Max complaining about robust driving from George.

What a surprise Max complaining about robust driving from George.

As soon as George overtook him I said to DH "Verstappen will now moan on the radio" and, of course, he did.

Brazilianadventure · 29/04/2023 15:03

I think Max is realising that it’s very different being the hunted rather than the hunter.

In 2021 he could afford to risk pushing Lewis off and Lewis knew he had to pull out, now Max is realising he has to pull out as he has more to lose.

Brazilianadventure · 29/04/2023 15:10

What a lack lustre well done to Checo from his race engineer. I think the wrong RB won.

Feel sorry for Norris having to change tyres.

mydogisthebest · 29/04/2023 15:14

Verstappen having the cheek to have a go at George. Has he forgotten all the dirty driving, shoving etc he has done over the years?

Then more whinging. God I dislike him so much

Brazilianadventure · 29/04/2023 15:17

I know, maybe someone should sit down and refresh Max’s memory.

Brazilianadventure · 29/04/2023 15:20

@ZiggZagg F1 can be very addictive, not just the races but the technical details, the rules and the paddock politics.

The trouble is DTS has made going to a race more expensive for ordinary fans.

jennywasafriendofmrbrightside · 29/04/2023 15:23

Verstappen's response to Russell after the race shows exactly who he is - pathetic crybaby... responding exactly like a petulant child who has gotten his own way his entire life.

And the comments from the team during and after the race - they're all so toxic.

I agree, we didn't see or hear anything of Christian. Maybe he was off snivelling to the stewards.

Tilda77 · 29/04/2023 16:29

Well that was a bit uneventful. Don't get me started on Max complaining about George! If it had been anyone else he would have just said we were racing but as it was a Mercedes....The yellow flags, then virtual safety car and then the safety car took too long. I know safety comes first but I think they were reluctant to put the safety car out but this time it was needed.

ClassicLib · 29/04/2023 18:45

Max is a brilliant driver, but he is also a complete prat. He genuinely can’t accept that other drivers are entitled to try to overtake him and that if you dish it out on the track as he does, you have to be prepared to accept a bit back. His petulant behaviour is pathetic and he needs to grow up, but that isn’t going to happen while he has Horner & Marko telling him the sun shines out of his arse.

Sulusu · 29/04/2023 20:53

I thought Max's reaction was over the top and Horner's post race interview was a bit odd. Something else going on at Red Bull this weekend?

Even with that damage to his car Max caught up to Charles at the end. The Red Bulls wont have any issue winning tomorrow unless Baku throws up lots of incidents (which it tends to).

LookItsMeAgain · 30/04/2023 11:17

Max's reaction was typical Max. He flies off the handle when he's not getting his own way. Remember how he physically pushed Ocon after Brazil '18? It's a thing that Verstappen does when he doesn't give an inch.

I mean when George did his post Sprint race interviews he kept to the line that even since their days karting, that the person who is on the inside gets the corner. It wasn't a situation that Max couldn't have gotten out of later in the lap, particularly on the start/finish straight due to the straight-line speed of the RBR cars. He would have been easily able to overtake George at that stage with an undamaged car.

The other thing that jumps out at me is the image of the RBR car on top of Lewis' car when Max talks about other drivers giving him space when he literally drove on top of the Mercedes.

This guy is just too hot-headed at the moment. He has anger issues.

While loads of others are delighted to see Daniel being the reserve driver in RBR, I'm not as I think there is something intrinsic in that team that makes the team toxic. I am loving that Checo is bringing it to Max and I really really really hope that if Checo is leading the championship at some point, the team gets 100% behind him (I doubt that they will but I can hope that they would).

Cheering on Alonso in this house. I love watching him play the smart long game.

Brazilianadventure · 30/04/2023 13:10

@LookItsMeAgain I agree about Max look how many times Lewis backed out in early 2021 as Max would have crashed into him at the start. I am waiting for him to say I’m WC they should just get out of my way. Lewis has been far more mature in their battles.

I disagree somewhat about DR, McLaren clearly damaged his natural driving ability. If reports are correct he was awful the first time he sat in the RB sim but after a break he is back to his natural driving style. Having a “break” within a team he knows well is likely to be beneficial. However, I don’t think it would be healthy if he stays with RB long term. I agree they are toxic - multi 21 anyone😂.

I also agree about Checo I would love to see him win the World Championship but I think RB would rather lose the championship than have Checo win.
