So irrespective of views. Here we are. First March. Qatar v Ecuador. 1 goal.

Apparently this is Senegal's heaviest defeat in competition, so they're no mugs.

xalo · 04/12/2022 20:48

Fantastic game management

MrsJackGrealish · 04/12/2022 20:48

@TassLeHoff

Definitely not. We had the ability to win but they were gonna make us work for it.

TassLeHoff · 04/12/2022 20:53

Yay!

DuncinToffee · 04/12/2022 20:54

Good win!

Brilliant save from Pickford and great goals from Henderson, Kane and Saka.

MarshaBradyo · 04/12/2022 20:54

So pleased

France next nervous but hopefully we can do it

AndNobbyDancing · 04/12/2022 20:56

'It hasn't always been this way you know'

Keep trying to tell the boy that this isn't England, this isn't what we expect.

IntentionalError · 04/12/2022 21:04

I’m delighted, but I think 3-0 slightly flatters us. Sénégal were the better team until the first goal. France will be a much tougher challenge, but we have got serious attacking firepower and Bellingham is simply the best young midfielder in the world.

bizzey · 04/12/2022 21:19

Why was Grealish being a " draught excluder" ?

I have never seen that before .

Oblomov22 · 04/12/2022 21:20

Loved Jude Bellingham being interviewed. What a lovely grounded young man he is.

OP posts:
MrsJackGrealish · 04/12/2022 21:22

@bizzey

I think that started when a free kick was converted to a goal by going through the players legs so someone lays down behind the wall.

Not sure who the teams were though.

GyozaGuiting · 04/12/2022 21:24

Can I just say how lovely it is to see a (predominantly) female site talk about football?
I’m female and if I try and talk about football at work (male dominated) people don’t know how to take me at first.

I played football at Uni, follow several teams and it’s like they think ‘aw the woman has learnt something from her man’.
My DH couldn’t give a shit and it’s me watching it with my boys tonight!
Just love this thread basically 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🙌🏻
I think with France will be more astute defensively and hopefully bring Grealish on earlier!

GyozaGuiting · 04/12/2022 21:25

@Oblomov22 I agree Jude Bellingham comes across like he’s a wisended 30 year old! Can’t believe his age

MrsJackGrealish · 04/12/2022 21:25

It was a Brazilian player in 2013 that started it.

xalo · 04/12/2022 21:27

@GyozaGuiting we love footy!!

bizzey · 04/12/2022 21:30

AHH thank you.
I love learning new things.

This is where I belive it came from Ronaldinho scoring under the wall in 2006. Then there are a few people who started being a 'draught excluder '

I don’t think they were. In the first 30 mins 100% but after that England picked themselves up and played really fucking well.

I think with England it’s hard for us to actually come to terms with the fact they are actually a decent team atm. So we like to put them down so we’re not disappointed.

But England were the better team tonight and deserved that win.

xalo · 05/12/2022 15:34

It's so great to be through early so we can just sit back and enjoy the other matches.

TassLeHoff · 05/12/2022 15:38

Another benefit is that if we get through we'd be less tired than opponents as we started earlier than most. Historically, it seems to me that we tended to be amongst the later starters and were knackered by the quarter finals (the old England style of play of running around very fast didn't help much either).

xalo · 05/12/2022 15:44

Yes Japan! Fantastic corner!

xalo · 05/12/2022 15:49

Yes, and it's also relatively early in our season so no excuses about burn out.

DuncinToffee · 05/12/2022 16:52

Extra time

Lonelycrab · 05/12/2022 16:54

Would be great to see Japan do it.

DuncinToffee · 05/12/2022 16:57

It's very difficult to call this game. I agree it would be good to see Japan edging it.
