Not sure how the Aussies are going to score here. Their best strategy might be to park the bus & try to take their chances in a shootout. Whatever happens, they have done extraordinary well to get this far. Football is, at best, the fourth most popular sport in Australia (after Aussie Rules, cricket & rugby league).

Looking at the match list it seems as if the winner of one group always plays the runner up of another so you get one team more likely to win

France are my sweepstake team. I don’t mind us taking them out in the next round. But if we’re going to lose to anybody I want it to be a team I might win money from.

Yes, that’s exactly how it works. The winner of group A plays the runner up in group B, and vice versa, in the round of 16. This rewards the group winners with theoretically easier games in the first knockout round. Had England finished second in our group, we would have played Netherlands last night, rather than Senegal tonight.
