F1 2022 Discussion Thread

GrandSlamFinale · 22/05/2022 10:52

After many weeks and months of waiting, we finally have an F1 discussion thread on MN!

Anyone who wants to join is welcome - regardless of how long you've been watching the sport or who you support. My only request is that we keep it respectful even when criticising our favourite driver's rivals.

We're in Barcelona this weekend for round 6 of what has been a thriller of a championship so far. I'm really excited to see how the race unfolds today, if overtaking will prove as difficult as it historically has here, if the Mercs have done a step forward in race pace, how RB and Ferrari will play around with strategy and tyres.

Is it me or is there tension between Jenson and Danica?

MadameMinimes · 19/06/2022 20:51

That was a fun race. Really glad to see Carlos have a good result. It’s a shame he wasn’t able to nick the win at the end but he drove really well today. Also good to see Mercedes in better form and looking like they are on the pace.

Rowgtfc72 · 19/06/2022 20:58

First time in a while lewis hasn't complained!
Can't believe sainz hasn't had a win though.
Roll on Silverstone!

ListenLinda · 19/06/2022 20:59

First time in a while Lewis hasn’t had much to complain about 😂

LookItsMeAgain · 20/06/2022 10:02

The sentiment on Twitter was that the race was quite boring. I really enjoyed it. There was plenty of close racing and loads of overtaking (I thought that's what the people wanted).
This season is starting to get a bit lively now....

Bring on Silverstone!

NandoLorris · 27/06/2022 21:05

Are many of you on here attending Silverstone? Can't wait to get there! Best weekend of our year

How have I never seen this thread???!!! I'm in Australia, and DS and I have been getting up in the middle of the night just to watch.

Can't wait for the British Grand Prix. I love the retro poster they've released!

Me too...One of these days I will get to a race but then I have the decision of which race to go to???? Decisions....decisions.....

GrouchyKiwi · 28/06/2022 09:00

We were at Silverstone last year. It was bloody brilliant. I'd want to go to one of the ones like that - Spa, Monza, Canada. The ones that are always a good race.

Have a great time if you're going. I will be envious. Grin

And I had forgotten it was Silverstone this weekend, so thanks for the reminder. At least it's not clashing with the Wimbledon finals this year.

Isittimef0rbedyet · 28/06/2022 09:10

Hi All, a big F1 fan here and just came across this thread in Active so joining in 🙂

NandoLorris · 28/06/2022 16:05

We're heading up on Friday, with our 5 and 2 year old who both love going. I think Silverstone would be a great first race to attend for anyone who's not been before. What's always great is we always end up meeting loads of other fans at the race, everyone really is so friendly. Last year the crowd were noticably behind Lando and George and there wasn't much cheering for Lewis, which really surprised us.
I've been to Spa which is a must. Monza and Canda are on the list for me. My tip for races abroad is plan very carefully - Spa was a mud bath, and is most years because it's in the Ardennes and all the parking is on 45 degree farmers' fields. Barcelona has logistical challenges too, not sure if bother going there from the stories I've heard.

NandoLorris · 28/06/2022 16:06

Also very glad it's not going 30-odd degrees like it's been the last few years!

StarCourt · 28/06/2022 16:08

@NandoLorris Silverstone was my least favourite race! Stuck on the car park for 5 hrs afterwards trying to get out was not fun.
I've done Barcelona and Spa 3 times and loved them. Spa is my favourite race and I've camped there 3 times.

StarCourt · 28/06/2022 16:10

Also personally never had any logistical challenges getting to Circuit de Catalunya

GrouchyKiwi · 28/06/2022 16:11

Must have depended on where you were on the track Nando. Our stand went absolutely mad every time Lewis went past and totally lost it at the end. Grin

Wakemeuuuup · 28/06/2022 16:18

Have you all seen the news today? Poor Lewis, can't believe he's still having to put up with this shut. Piquet is a racist bustard( which we knew anyway)

StarCourt · 28/06/2022 17:28

Yes just been reading about it. I’m not a Lewis fan at all but nobody should have to put up with that. Piquet should be banned from F1 tracks if it’s true

LookItsMeAgain · 28/06/2022 17:36

I'm not surprised in the slightest.
Lewis has had to (and continues to have to) put up with such terrible racism.

The only think I'm surprised about is that Max is dating Nelson Piquet's daughter. I thought he had a bit more class.

MadameMinimes · 28/06/2022 18:10

Max once used the words “retard” and “mongol” to describe a competitor and refused to apologise when people pointed out that this is unacceptable. Red Bull backed him in refusing to apologise. So that’s no real surprise to me.

Piquet is a twat of the highest order and that has been no secret for years. He regularly says things that are offensive and unpleasant and keeps company with Bolsonaro. Let’s hope they keep him away from future races. The time has come to actually take action on this sort of thing.

MadameMinimes · 28/06/2022 18:15

Just in case anyone had forgotten.

Wakemeuuuup · 28/06/2022 18:38

Verstappen has never come across (to me) as a nice person.

To have any chance of maturing into a better person he needs to get away from his father, his girlfriend's father and Christian Horner. Unfortunately these people aren't helping him.

Piquet should be banned from the paddock

Isittimef0rbedyet · 28/06/2022 21:42

Agree that Piquet should be banned. There needs to be consequences.
