F1 2022 Discussion Thread

After many weeks and months of waiting, we finally have an F1 discussion thread on MN!

Anyone who wants to join is welcome - regardless of how long you've been watching the sport or who you support. My only request is that we keep it respectful even when criticising our favourite driver's rivals.

We're in Barcelona this weekend for round 6 of what has been a thriller of a championship so far. I'm really excited to see how the race unfolds today, if overtaking will prove as difficult as it historically has here, if the Mercs have done a step forward in race pace, how RB and Ferrari will play around with strategy and tyres.

Completely agree. See my posts a couple of weeks ago regarding the ridiculous hate Russell was getting online and how over the top it is. Now Alpine have had to put out a press statement regarding online hate after yesterday's clash between Alonso and Occon. The lack of knowledge and increased toxicity in the F1 community has increased massively since DTS started on Netflix.

Very much agree with you all. What got me thinking about it particularly today was a thread on Twitter than Karun Chandhok shared. The abuse towards him in left me gobsmacked, because for me he is the voice of reason, he doesn't get carried away and analyses incidents in the spirit of the F1 rules. But the amount of people who couldn't see that and didn't want to see that. It was just all pure nasty. He's just doing his job.

And have inspired myself for a new F1 username!

It's true though lol, you never hear him on the team radios lol, he must just be racing away in the zone and doing his own thing lol!

They only air snippets of radio and usually only from the lead drivers or those involved in incidents, often to suit liberty media's current "narrative". Majority of the driver radio is boring but necessary info about telemetry etc. Some driver's talk more than others, and some are Kimi Raikkonen! 😀

Think sainz might be OK. He seems to be a lot more determined this weekend. Would be nice to see him on the podium.

Nice to see the Mercedes having such a good race. Hopefully next season will be a closer fought battle for the WDC between several drivers. Well done George!

Just heard the Verstappen radio. I wonder why he didn't help Checo out and give him the place back after all that Checo has done for him in the last 2 seasons

That last radio transmission from Max reminds me a lot of Multi 2-1 when Seb wouldn't let Mark Webber back through.

RBR is a really toxic team from where I'm sitting.

Verstappen may live to regret that. This year was not a close fight but if next year ends up being as tight as last year he may need Checo again. Will Perez be as quick to leap out of Max’s way in future, given Max was unwilling to do this with the constructors and drivers championship all sewn up and no real difference for Max in terms of race outcome. By which I mean not the difference between a win and second place or between a podium and fourth.
