The Rolling Football Thread (season 2020/21)

BelfastBloke · 07/02/2021 08:37

For many years, either Pan or I have started a Rolling Football Thread each season. Apologies that we didn't start one for this weird season, until now.

As in previous years, footy fans please sign in with

  1. Which team you support.
  2. Which team(s) you loathe.
  3. How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team.
  4. A thought on this season (Premiership/Championship/Champions’ League/FA Cup/Any leagues world wide/Fallout from the pandemic and having no fans in stadiums.)

This super league is ridiculous!
Just pure greed. All about the money and nothing to do with the game.
Not for me at all
Be interesting to see what happens with eufa threatening to ban players involved

WhiteHartLane · 19/04/2021 19:35

No more Mourinho... strange time to sack him, I'm wondering if there was something in his contract that states they would need to pay more to get rid if he won silverware during his reign? Or, more likely, to detract attention away from this super league farce. Best of luck to Ryan Mason for the rest of the season.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 19/04/2021 21:33

I dont get it!! I dont get why..how..its fine as it is!!

MajesticWhine · 19/04/2021 23:14

As an LFC fan I'm gutted and embarrassed about the Superleague proposal. I hope the opposition to this will be so huge that it is ditched.
Any other day and Mourinho's sacking would have been the big sports story of the day. Smart move by Spurs to bury it today maybe? So people are not talking about what a terrible appointment it was in the first place.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 20/04/2021 18:54

Ooooooh...chelsea apparently requested to withdraw. I think its said us and City were the last to join

DuncinToffee · 20/04/2021 18:55

Go Chelsea fans
Fans here at the Chelsea Protest adamant they want to stop the Chelsea team bus entering the stadium tonight. Interesting to see if they do or not #cfc t.co/xwMWP8P0lA

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 20/04/2021 19:08

I think the latest news will calm things..really hope its not all talk.

Arsenal fans planning a protest for Friday.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 20/04/2021 19:11

And reports appearing about City following..oooo

DuncinToffee · 20/04/2021 19:21

We are playing Arsenal on Friday...

The rumours about both Chelsea and City wanting to pull out have been doing the rounds all day.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 20/04/2021 19:28

Apprently Barcelona out..Athletico out..maybe won't be protests Friday lol. This is coming down down

DuncinToffee · 21/04/2021 09:44

Group F: China, Brazil, Zambia, Netherlands.
Group G: Sweden, USA, Australia, New Zealand.

singingsoprano · 21/04/2021 12:57

I support Aston Villa
I loathe Man Utd (although DH &DD are fans)
DS supports Villa
This season interesting -lack of fans has meant many teams playing better away from home.
Game of the season-Aston Villa 7-Liverpool 2 !

DuncinToffee · 24/04/2021 09:46

Yes! A win away at Arsenal, it only took 25 years Grin

Arsenal fans were really angry and rightly so.
All those owners now grovelling with their lame excuses.

DuncinToffee · 24/04/2021 09:55

How have your clubs communicated re the esl with fans?

We got an email on Monday explaining Everton's stance just before the official statement and another one yesterday outlining the way forward. I have been very impressed with our club.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 24/04/2021 11:54

That own goal..woopsie!!! That really helped the Arsenal fans mood!

Got a email...load of waffle. Not that great but hey ho.
The saving grace apprently as being one of the last teams to join in and the first to look at pulling out so thats something I guess.
Just a shame it was joined but guess fear of being left behind blahhh excuses.

DuncinToffee · 24/04/2021 15:14

Nice one Newcastle!

WhiteHartLane · 24/04/2021 19:44

I read a club statement on the Tottenham facebook page, apology for upsetting the fans and thanking them for voicing their opinions. Load of bullshit really, no thought for the fans whatsoever.

Not a great performance against the Saints midweek but happy for Mason getting a win under his belt early on. Massive game tomorrow, I'm hoping but not expecting.

2 teams relegated from L1 today, Swindon and Bristol Rovers. Very happy to see Joey Barton gone, I can't believe that man is still in football tbh.

DuncinToffee · 24/04/2021 20:29

I agree with you on Joey Barton.

Watford promoted to PL, Hull to the Championship

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 24/04/2021 20:37

Watford and Norwich back..be funny if Bournemouth win the play off. All 3 back at once..

Happy with today's results..

BelfastBloke · 25/04/2021 15:50

Arsenal hasn't written to me, a season ticket holder, with any kind of apology for their disgraceful Super League behaviour.

An 'Open Letter' was published on the website, though, (and later Kroenke's son met with fans' groups via Zoom and promised to be more available).

"The last few days have shown us yet again the depth of feeling our supporters around the world have for this great club and the game we love.

We needed no reminding of this but the response from supporters in recent days has given us time for further reflection and deep thought.

It was never our intention to cause such distress, however when the invitation to join the Super League came, while knowing there were no guarantees, we did not want to be left behind to ensure we protected Arsenal and its future.

As a result of listening to you and the wider football community over recent days we are withdrawing from the proposed Super League. We made a mistake, and we apologise for it.

We know it will take time to restore your faith in what we are trying to achieve here at Arsenal but let us be clear that the decision to be part of the Super League was driven by our desire to protect Arsenal, the club you love, and to support the game you love through greater solidarity and financial stability.

Stability is essential for the game to prosper and we will continue to strive to bring the security the game needs to move forward.

The system needs to be fixed. We must work together to find solutions which protect the future of the game and harness the extraordinary power football has to get us on the edge of our seats.

Finally, we know this has been hugely unsettling at the end of what has been an incredibly difficult year for us all.

Our aim is always to make the right decisions for this great football club, to protect it for the future and to take us forward. We didn’t make the right decision here, which we fully accept.

We have heard you.

The Arsenal Board'

That trophy lift..taking own medals off a table. Just looks so weird!

DuncinToffee · 30/04/2021 15:06

It’s time for change.

Social media companies must do more to prevent online discriminatory abuse.

DuncinToffee · 02/05/2021 10:45

After yet another flat and uninspired home defeat, I am ready for this season to end. Football just isn't the same without the fans.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 02/05/2021 13:10

Think last 2 games of the season due to have fans? So each team has a turn.

Glad weren't fans for our 5-2 defeat..not sure the crowd reaction would've been pleasant
