The Rolling Football Thread (season 2020/21)

BelfastBloke · 07/02/2021 08:37

For many years, either Pan or I have started a Rolling Football Thread each season. Apologies that we didn't start one for this weird season, until now.

As in previous years, footy fans please sign in with

  1. Which team you support.
  2. Which team(s) you loathe.
  3. How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team.
  4. A thought on this season (Premiership/Championship/Champions’ League/FA Cup/Any leagues world wide/Fallout from the pandemic and having no fans in stadiums.)

Think Spurs are stuck with him till the summer unfortunately. 5 losses in 6 and a goal deficit of -6 Sad

Lingard has hit the ground running with West Ham - excellent loan signing.

Another 3 points this evening. Only a 1-0 though and hardly a scintillating match. I thought the gunners were going to nick one towards the end.
A win nonetheless 🙂.
How's Arsenal TV dealing with the loss?

BelfastBloke · 21/02/2021 18:57

Yeah it was a fairly boring game.

I don’t watch Arsenal TV, and never watch Arsenal Fan TV. Often see ArsenalFanTV filming on the concourse after a match, with loads of people gathered round; but I’ve never bothered with it.

Know still a while to go but thought Liverpool were going to run off with it. Know had problems but that's a very quick slide! Especially for home losses after none for years. Still happy happy keep our home record!
Though knowing Chelsea we'll end that bad run..they cant defend. We can't score sooooo.

DuncinToffee · 01/03/2021 22:26

A home win! Not a classic but 3 points

DuncinToffee · 04/03/2021 21:53

Another hard worked win! Glad to beat gravy Sam Grin

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 05/03/2021 21:49

Didn't expect to win yesterday given Liverpool bad home form and we tend to stop teams having a bad run..very surprised.

Glad the handball rule is being changed. Its stupid atm

Parky04 · 05/03/2021 21:53

Reading. Can't stand Liverpool (only because everyone at school supported Liverpool in late 70s and early 80s!). Despite my best efforts my DS supports Man Utd. My other DS loathes football! Hopefully we can get to the play offs.

DuncinToffee · 06/03/2021 11:22

Welcome Parky04 The Royals are kind of our local team but it's a pain to get to Reading. You have one of our U23 players on loan (Lewis Gibson) but I don't think he has played much. Good luck today!

Definitely good news about the handball rule. Now please change the flagging for offside timing.

BelfastBloke · 06/03/2021 12:28

BT Sport tells us it’s International Women’s Day, and plenty of inspirational videos about women footballers and presenters. Then cut back to Mark, Joe Cole and Keown all agreeing how important women are.

Incongruous.

Starting to enjoy watching Spurs again after weeks of negative crap, 9 very much needed points and 2 dominant performances. Hoping they will keep it up in the NLD and not revert to Spursy Spurs Grin
Happy to see Kane and Son have now beaten Shearer and Suttons goal/assist record.

Gillingham took the points Saturday too (rare win against the Tractor Boys). Puts them in the top half of L1.
21/22 EFL season will start on 6th August - with fans all being well, cannot wait to get back into the stadium.

DuncinToffee · 08/03/2021 20:37

We lost to a better team. I didn't expect different when I saw our bench was mostly made up from U23's, just hope the rumours about Doucoure being injured and out for 6-8 weeks aren't true..

DuncinToffee · 08/03/2021 21:02

Oh no, Doucoure will be out for a while, he will be a big miss 🤕

BelfastBloke · 12/03/2021 16:07

Arsenal and Spurs both won last night in the Europa League, ahead of Sunday's North London Derby.

In some ways, the pressure is off Arsenal as we have no chance of a top-four finish, while Spurs are still the hunt I think.

Spurs's attack is better than ours (but ours is ok) and our defence is better than their leaky defence. But we keep making stupid errors that gifts opponents goals.

Any expected injuries on the Spurs side, do you know?

OP posts:
DuncinToffee · 13/03/2021 20:13

We are just so bad at home, not helped by Burnley playing their best match of the season, still arghhhh!

WhiteHartLane · 14/03/2021 11:58

Agree with the pressure being off Arsenal more than Spurs ahead of todays match. Short of a disaster of epic proportions they are in the next round of the EL. Spurs have the advantage in their tie but I was disappointed they didn't score more at home. An early away goal is needed really.

Spurs have been consistent in the last few games but the opposition, bar Fulham, had poor games. Arsenal were very good against Leicester and a bit unlucky at Burnley.

No new injuries to my knowledge - expecting Toby and Reguilon to return to the squad after missing the Zagreb game.

Another 3-1 win for Gills against relagation threatened Swindon. If only they could win on Tuesday nights....

WhiteHartLane · 14/03/2021 19:18

Fair result, Arsenal worked harder and deserved the points. Sad to lose Son after 20 minutes and disappointing to see Spurs play so negatively again (bar the last 15 minutes when they applied the pressure).
Best team won but what an absolute wonder goal from Lamela!

DuncinToffee · 14/03/2021 20:08

Probably the better result for us, staying 6th for now.
It really is a season of ups and downs for most teams, apart from City. And Sheffield who seem to have downs only and now have to do without Wilder.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 15/03/2021 20:25

I’m so glad I’ve found the football chat!

  1. Which team you support - Man City
  2. Which team(s) you loathe - Man United Liverpool
  3. How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team - DH and I are City fans from being kids and DS first outfit was a City babygro
  4. A thought on this season (Premiership/Championship/Champions’ League/FA Cup/Any leagues world wide/Fallout from the pandemic and having no fans in stadiums - I think City will get the Prem, EFL and the FA. I think we’ll maybe get to the semis of the CL, but obviously hoping to get to the final

You can probably tell from my username that I love football

DuncinToffee · 15/03/2021 20:41

Sligo Rovers have an idea how to get supporters, start in them young Grin

Sligo Rovers @sligorovers

Sligo Rovers today announce one of the most significant community projects in our history, with every baby born in Sligo University Hospital to receive a Rovers jersey on the day they enter the world

Over 1,000 Rovers jerseys will be donated to families.

DuncinToffee · 15/03/2021 20:42

Hi EdersonsSmileyTattoo, so how many tattoos do you have?
I have two at the moment, neither City related, and next one is pencilled in for August.
DuncinToffee · 16/03/2021 12:36

Ah, I thought you had an Ederson tattoo, that's why I asked, not to be nosey Smile
