i love them COMING -just hate the effects on classes.

Last year I reckon most of them give up by half term or March - what do you think?>

Glitz - how do you know of the lashes? This is a minority at mine, as I said. TBH if we are not judging for obsesity, why should we for people who ( oddly IMO) see the need to wear full make up for a first thing in the morning class

you either judge wholescale or not at all!

Tiredemma · 01/01/2015 11:14

dont know how much weight but when i got back in the car i was shaking like a shitting dog.

never went back.

ElizabethHoover · 01/01/2015 11:18

lol i bet you put super heavy weights on. I LOVE it when blokes come in and do that for the warm up, half way through, they are looking at the ladeez like OMG and have to swap DOWN

excellent #mrburns

I was one of those annoying people last January. My NY resolution was to start swimming again. I have kept it up & now swim 3 times a week.

Mind you, I shall be pretty pissed off with all the January joiners this year!

ilovepowerhoop · 01/01/2015 11:19

I like that too. They whack on the weights to look macho and then really struggle after a few reps. makes me chuckle inside

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 01/01/2015 11:20

Always a queue for the treadmills in Jan which is a bugger. Not because I laugh in the face of optimism, just because I find having to wait for gym equipment a total arsepain. I want to go to the gym, use the equipment, go home. End.

HolgerDanske · 01/01/2015 11:20

Oh I don't do classes so we should be alright, I'll just be amongst the masses all trying to use the machines at the same time Grin

ElizabethHoover · 01/01/2015 11:21

you think "Mate this is going to get WAY harder" and I think I even told one once. NOPE

OP posts:
Unescorted · 01/01/2015 11:23

I am one of those annoying people - I just use the gym when it is cold & dark outside.

HolgerDanske · 01/01/2015 11:25

Love seven to nine in the morning and after eight in the evening, nothing better than having the place pretty much to myself Smile

Honeydragon · 01/01/2015 11:28

I'm hopefully going to be one of the New Year influx Grin

I struggled the last 6 months with my shifts and being in pain, but hopefully I'll get my op very soon and won't be in pain so can bimble around annoying people.

UmizoomiThis · 01/01/2015 11:35

The annoying thing is that gyms purposely oversubscribe at the start of the year, knowing certain percentage of those people will stop going after a month, another percentage after three months. They don't give a shiny shit about the queues and crowds during the few months out of the year when most of their member actually use the facilities.

In turn, a lot of new members get put off the gym because it's always packed and classes are always full.

Adding classes and extending opening times by 1-2 hours would help, but then the gym would lose money.

SurlyCue · 01/01/2015 11:41

But bloody hundreds of people turn up in January, book all the classes and i can't get into some of my regular classes.

So get in earlier when booking your classes. You know it happens every year so cant be surprised if you dont take pre emptive action and then cant get into classes.

Peedie · 01/01/2015 11:41

I'm so used to there being no more than one other person in the lane in the pool that the January 'rush' is a bit hard to take but it tails off by the end of the month normally and I can go back to having it to myself most of the time. Selfish yes, but I hate someone swimming right at the back of me and I actually LOATHE folk who stay in the swimming lanes but just stand and chat at the ends other that actually, you know, swimming. Piss off back to the hot tub or the non-laned bit if you are just here to chat. Arrrghhhh.

Sorry, that turned into a wee bit of a rant there!!

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 01/01/2015 11:49

Im looking forward to the January influx. Our gym only opened in the summer so is a bit quiet. I was the only person who turned up to a Metafit class once. The instructor asked if I wanted to carry on, but I chickened out and just did some treadmill and weights. The most that has ever been in one of my classes has been 9.

Once I saw a couple of young girls (well they were probably about 20ish, but still young to me) in the changing rooms checking themselves out in the mirror before getting on the bikes and hardly breaking a sweat before leaving again. I can only assume that they were there to try to pull some muscley guys.

What is GRIT OP?

ilovepowerhoop · 01/01/2015 11:55

Grit is a new group of Les Mills classes. Think they have GRIT strength, plyo and cardio and they are shorter classes of high intensity. Haven't tried them, they sound scary!

NorbertDentressangle · 01/01/2015 11:55

It's going to be a double PITA at the gym I go to as they're also making it compulsory from now for everyone to use the electronic key card thingies that you plug into every machine (it was optional until now and most people, unless serious fitness fanatics, tended not to use them).

That means everyone will have to cope with the IT technology as well as learning how to use the equipment

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 01/01/2015 12:01

Thanks for the explanation Powerhoop Looks good. Part of it sounds a bit like Metafit which I love.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 01/01/2015 12:03

Elizabeth because I see them going in. I just think lashes are pointless as they would surely sweat off? I wear make up nearly everyday but wouldn't if I visited a gym as it would melt off and give you panda eyes. And I don't judge obese people for going at all! Good on them I say. My dp is overweight and goes to the gym I see nothing wrong in that

EBearhug · 01/01/2015 12:12

As much as I like swimming with a lane to myself, I know it's not sustainable to run the pool like that all the time - they need all the people signing up. And it will be fine from half term, if not before.

5EllipticGoldRings · 01/01/2015 12:13

We can book one week in advance so I've booked my spin class for Monday, couldn't book hydrospin tho' as I'm in Scotland and nothing seems to be open from yesterday to next Monday.
Didn't think about the car park, it's already full to bursting half the time as all the kids from the college opposite park there.
Luckily my Pilates is a pay in advance per term thing and with quite limited numbers as it caters for people with health problems - I've been going there since I had a prolapsed disc four years ago.

5EllipticGoldRings · 01/01/2015 12:25

I went to the pool on Monday and saw the hydrospin (different class to mine) had a stand in instructor, she was absolutely mad - there were some obviously new people there being shown how to set up the bikes, three of them left before the end of the class Shock, didn't appear to be any concession to them being new.

ilovepowerhoop · 01/01/2015 12:37

Never heard of hydrospin, what is bit?

ilovepowerhoop · 01/01/2015 12:37

It not bit!

EBearhug · 01/01/2015 12:41

Hydrospin is spinning but in the swimming pool. I've only seen it in Germany. (Admittedly I haven't looked around much in the UK.)
