i love them COMING -just hate the effects on classes.

Cycling in the water ilovepowerhoop, special rust proof bikes that you set up with the resistance before you get in the water. Lots of different exercises to spin, less strain on your muscles but you know you've done an exercise class when you get out of the water Grin.

I hate it. You can't get a locker, the classes are full, the treadys are full. Horrible. Usually died off by end of Jan though. Mind you, I've barely been in December (terrible allergic reaction, followed swiftly by the flu bug that's been going round. Plus over xmas I ran outside rather than in the gym - just easier with all the hoohah etc). So I've hardky covered myself with glory recently. Just off in a minute. Dreading it.

After 6 months of illness and injury (and laziness!) I was nervous about starting back to classes again next week as have put on 2 stone and feel very unfit.

I'm now buoyed up by the idea of pissing off gym bunnies who resent me being there!

Seriously, some of you sound selfish and horrible... X

It seemsto be a weird fixation doesn't it?

I'm not sure if it's a sort of fantasy thing amongst people who don't go to the gym - like those men who secretly think women sharing a room would wear shortie pyjamas and have pillow fights.

Is it like the Olivia Newton john video maybe?

I'm going to tell way more people I go to the gym if they imagine I preen around in Lycra.

I resent people who show up for a month in January because they mess up the system, they often don't even follow the rules (about class booking, lockers etc) and they are probably on some brilliant 'new members only' discount deal to get them to sign up, which while it will cost them loads in the end (because most of them will stop going but still have to pay) is right now costing them less than the long term members have to pay.

If it bothers you that much miss a couple of weeks and then go at the popular times. Newbies try to pick the less popular times to go as they are often self conscious.
They are the ones who keep your membership costs down by paying the fees and not attending.

I have a degree in this shit Grin

Julius

Please go and ignore those on here who sound as though they fall under category 1. The unfulfilled, you should pity them as they are the laughing stock with staff.
Husband not up to it, they are desperate to get a glimpse of a trainer and believe he gives a shit about them Grin

There is no possible interpretation of the word 'down' that could be correctly applied to the fees charged by my gym. Over time the no shows are obviously bumping up the gym's profits (they really aren't subsidising the fees of everyone else - the gym chain charges what the market will bear and makes super profits as a result). For the first 3 months though, they are on a hefty discount and thus paying considerably less than the poor old saps like me who don't like changing gyms chasing deals.

I don't read this about being gym bunnies. I'm heavy, size 16 and not super fit. Still get mildly irritated in January when I can't get a space, the treadmills are full and classes rammed!

Occasionally the gym manager chivvies the multitude of gym workers to waft around trying to engage the punters in conversation (as a prelude to signing them up to shape uo and ship out, or personal training or similar). On the rare occasions that one approaches me I just give them a very black look and obviously turn up the volume on my phone and they go away. Classes are slightly different, I do talk to the instructors there because they are my friends (I've known both of them for >10 years, our kids know each other etc). But even then I only really say hello and good bye - they are working they don't want to be talking to people they really know in front of customers.

I do think there might be a few people at the gym who do like talking to the male gym workers. But not many. It's not that sort of gym. And to be honest, if you're looking for that sort of thing the rugby players (who use the gym too since it's on the rugby club land) are probably the main target. I try and avoid the times when they are in though.

I'm too old now, and too small, to be a gym bunny. I'm a gym mouse. An elderly gym mouse.

I think I'm a gym elephant! I'll be the one sweating at the back of the class and trying not to look in the mirror!

I'm always pleased to see new people at classes each new year (this year I'm one of them) - the more people that join the gym the more the club will develop and improve the facilities. My gym, part of a national chain, has had a lot of money spent on it over the last couple of years since it was taken over and it's made a big difference. I like the feeling of positivity at the new year as lots of people start trying to improve their fitness - I can live with the lack of parking spaces for a few weeks.

Just wish I could pluck up the confidence to tackle a spin class - am too scared of not knowing what to do and possibly killing myself in the process!
