Almost here....how's the training regime going?

The first of the three Grand Tours, Tour of Italy, departs from Belfast with a team time trial from the Titanic shipyard, before a second day riding round the North, and then a third day from Armagh to Dublin centre, and then a flight to southern Italy and few weeks easy riding up through central Italian Apennines, over the Dolomites and a cruise through to Trieste on the Adriatic coast. No problems then...

Some useful links?

Overall route and maps

The understandably excited local Belfast press

and a bit more general fuss

Most of the usual pro-cycling suspects will be competing, and returning for the Tour de France Yorkshire in July.

Before all of this though there's a few 'classic' races to be had, but we can put those to another thread? Nothing else should get in the way of 3 days of professional racing in the Irish sunshine.

Does anyone know how I can watch today's stage and onwards? Don't have Sky. Have internet, and Freesat. Have been googling to try to find out with no joy!

CremolaDItalia · 13/05/2014 19:08

Oh Krap about Kittel.Sad

Panwearsrosa · 13/05/2014 19:50

Endo - I had a look when Dr said the same - I couldn't find anything apart from Euro and Sky. There will be some streaming and highlights somewhere in the world, but it will be a bugger to find I'd imagine. Sorry.

Found the last 6 mins on Youtube. Looks like most of them fell off anyway! That Italian rain is much more slippery than the Irish stuff.

Panwearsrosa · 13/05/2014 19:56

yes it was interesting the way the peloton seem to take control of the plan to ride and stay safe and refused to race. One or two got a little impatient, but the 3 crashes toward the end more than justified the position they took. Bike

Panwearsrosa · 13/05/2014 20:27

Cav-ini leads the Giro! You need to click on it for the detail of her riding! Bike

ah! If you double click it expands in blue. One click and it expands but clear. I did not realise this!Bike

LostInWales · 13/05/2014 21:09

Oh that is brilliant!

Panwearsrosa · 13/05/2014 21:10

it's from the Armagh-Dublin stage.

LostInWales · 13/05/2014 21:14

I was just looking through the thread and realised, that's it, the Giro has been to Ireland. Done and dusted. It's a bit sad BUT time to start getting excited about the TdF in Yorkshire Grin Bike Grin. Well that and follow the racing in Italy of course!

DramaAlpaca · 13/05/2014 21:27

It was interesting watching the discussions going on in the peloton today. They were clearly right to refuse to race. I hadn't realised until it was explained today how much more dangerous wet roads are when it doesn't rain very often.

Very impressed with Nacer Bouhanni getting back on after two punctures then coming through to win the stage.

I want to post another Kittel picture for Lost, but for some reason I'm not being given the option to post pics. I'll have another go later.

DoctorTwo · 13/05/2014 21:30

That photo's adorable Pan. :o

LostInWales · 13/05/2014 21:44

I think you are only allowed 6 photo's in 24 hours Drama, thank you for trying, I will just have to wait for my treat Grin

DramaAlpaca · 13/05/2014 21:47

Oh, is that it? I thought it was a calendar day. I'll try again later Wink

DramaAlpaca · 13/05/2014 23:07

I missed that, about the lad taking the selfie with Kittel - shame on me for not paying attention.

I thought it was a shame about today's stage - they must have been expecting decent weather in Italy, after all the rain in Ireland - and those roads looked positively ice-rink glacial! I don't blame them at all for neutralising the race.

angelinterceptor · 14/05/2014 10:52

Meant to put this up earlier for Lost and others; its a selfie with Marcel Kittel taken last week in Belfast. He couldn't have been nicer to my son - as were all the other riders.
We have so many good photos and memories

Fabulous pic, angel Smile

I think Lost will like it too Wink Grin

Belfast was amazing wasn't it? I will treasure the memories.

angelinterceptor · 14/05/2014 18:01

It was a totally great weekend - well a whole week when you include the general team stalking that my DS did after school every day!

It all feels a bit flat now, doesn't it

not just need to try to get over to yorkshire if I can fit it in

LostInWales · 14/05/2014 22:11

Aw bless, they are both little boys angel! I am 40 tomorrow, TOMORROW, how did this happen? I don't think I can look at that rear view photo of Kittel without feeling like a terrible hypocrite and old lady anymore. Shame on me. Fair play to him though, he sounds like a lovely person, was your son very happy to get his photo, it's an absolute gem.

DoctorTwo · 15/05/2014 06:04

Happy birthday Lost! Thanks Brew Wine [ale] Gin :o etc.

Panwearsrosa · 15/05/2014 06:12

Many happy returns Lost, you old git.GrinBike You're a mere chick!

Excellent photo angel - nice to know The Special K is a good egg though he is planning to ruin Cav's chances of wearing maillot jaune at Harrogate
