From Chavanel to Petacchi, a lead out for the Champs.

A guide to the timetable and teams competing
Not sure yet about tv coverage. Shall we check and report back?

Road race is on Sunday Endo, on BBC.

Oooh, Sunday eh. I may get away with watching it live if I can keep my children out of the way.

DramaAlpaca · 25/09/2013 22:52

...the brilliant "echelons" stage of the TdF, Stage 13 I think, when Saxo really went for it, Valverde had a mishap, and Cav managed to hang on to the leading group & won the stage.

That, for me, was one of the most exciting races of the summer.

weregonnaneedasmallerPan · 26/09/2013 19:20

The Good, and Bad and the fair Ugly:

Froome and Quintana on Ventous.
Some rider being crashed into whilst peeing.
Orica's bus.
The Grande Escapado.
Jens' comments.
Millar riding out on the Champs Elysee.
Horner's riding style.
The split DA refs.
The saying 'he just ran out of biscuits'.
Standstill riding on the steep bits.
Horner's 'collapse'.
Chavanel taking his 'leading' role a bit too seriously.
Horner and Nibili in the final ascent in Spain.
Someone riding without a saddle.
The rain of the TofB.
Bradders "I'd rather end up in hospital than lose today".

and a few others.

I was looking for you and went to sporting events - but there isn't a cycling section -how strange?

what time is the road race on Sunday please?

weregonnaneedasmallerPan · 28/09/2013 18:54

I think they set off around 1pm but the BBC are showing from 2.15pm onward.

Vos. Is there anything else to say?

NicholasTeakozy · 28/09/2013 19:11

That was an interesting race. The winner was always going to do it though, she has no equal in the sport atm.

weregonnaneedasmallerPan · 29/09/2013 12:54

Crumbs, have you seen the conditions in Florence! Just seeing some on the laptop. Really tricky with a large crash up near the front. Evans is out, most of the GB team have been name-checked.

OP posts:
weregonnaneedasmallerPan · 29/09/2013 12:55

name-checked to say they are still in it.

ariadneoliver · 29/09/2013 15:09

were terrible weather for them. Shame there are no Brits left in but props to the guys battling on.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 29/09/2013 15:58

Haven't been watching, have recorded it to see later but seems everyone on British team has dropped out!

weregonnaneedasmallerPan · 29/09/2013 16:04

Endo - it's been a real lottery, with not a lot of organisation going on. Not sure the highlights will be much use, fwiw.

OP posts:
EndoplasmicReticulum · 29/09/2013 16:06

We've recorded the whole thing I think, so will start at the beginning and see how we go!

weregonnaneedasmallerPan · 29/09/2013 16:37

What a finish! Giving nothing away.

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 29/09/2013 17:00

What a race! Also not giving anything away - let's talk about it later.

weregonnaneedasmallerPan · 29/09/2013 20:03

is it late enough to discuss the last hoo-rah of the season?

OP posts:
weregonnaneedasmallerPan · 29/09/2013 20:04

and indeed all of the season?

OP posts:
NicholasTeakozy · 29/09/2013 20:36

I think discussing the rest of the season will be ok, just not the result of the race today. It's been interesting, to say the least.

Moments I enjoyed:-

Froome in Paris.
Euskaltel Euskadi taking the lead going into Madrid. That was touching, and big up to whoever decided that, it was a lovely thing to do.
Horner winning La Vuelta. Yes, I know there are rumours, in fact I started one, but I'm prepared to believe that his legs were just 6000km fresher. Plus his climbing style was fantastic.
Wiggo on the time trial in the Tour of Britain. Utterly peerless.
Roche in La Vuelta. A great ride from a chap previously seen as a domestique, now a potential team leader.
Sorry, ran out of biscuits...

weregonnaneedasmallerPan · 29/09/2013 20:59

Yes Euska-Euska in Paris was fab.
and I still practise the Honer style on slopes, even when I really don't have to.
The glass pontoon as a Vuelta starter.
The scenery of Galicia.
The really pathetic excuse of Sky to give Froome some sugar within a 20k finish of a climb. I mean, the nerve.

OP posts:
EndoplasmicReticulum · 29/09/2013 22:11

Watched it now. Seems the whole British team were a bit light on the biscuits.

weregonnaneedasmallerPan · 29/09/2013 22:29

yes, its a bit surprising they all stepped off even when the 'leader' was still going and up for it. tweets seem to be questioning Brad's willingness and being too self involved/intense. Froome's interview was quite tight-lipped I thought. Overall it looked like quite a mess.

but loved the track-pursuit style in the last few metres - after what must have felt like thousands of miles it was a really odd ending.

OP posts:
EndoplasmicReticulum · 29/09/2013 22:38

Over 7 hours! I felt a bit sorry for Nibbly at the end there.
