My breast abscess just exploded

annoyingly a distinct lack of gunk but I did take a pic of the blood and the remaining abscess if anyone wants to see

I also had this when DD2 was about 6 weeks old, I couldn’t believe how much came out. Must have been 500ml+, it took two days to fully discharge, it was incredible. I wish I’d recorded it. The abscess was giant, I still have scarring and a dent in my boob from it.

I’ve had a perianal abscess popped under a general anaesthetic. I have never felt pain like that radiating up through my whole torso. And I was so sick. The surgeon, ‘cos I asked, said it was “bloody awful”. Not one given to minimising anything.

But I have no pictures. Waiting here to see what I missed.

I'm not hanging about waiting for photos to be approved. No no no.

In the meantime, I had an ingrown thigh hair escaped pube that I ferreted out with a pin. It waa so long, maybe 7cm, and very dark and glossy. Left a dent in my skin.

I had a huge one while breastfeeding. Had 350ml pus and milk drained out but in the end it had to be surgically removed. While the incision healed, I had to hold a thumb over it when breastfeeding as milk would also come out of the incision. Good times.

God, I remember the sheer agony of an infected finger, and the relief when it burst, so i can only imagine how painful these abcesses elsewhere must be

I once had one on my index finger. There are so many nerves there and it was excruciating to have it drained.

I had on in my pubic area, the nurse at my GP practice squeezed all the gunk out for 3 days, then dressed it every other day. I was mortified by the smell and how much gunk came out of such a small abscess, the nurse then told me stories of different abscesses that she had treated. Literally one on the back of a man, spurt all over her and reached as far as the walls, some 4 feet away. An abscess came back a few years after my first in same area, GP sent me to A&E, where they removed it under local anesthetic. The doctor asked could some junior doctors watch the procedure as it was important for them, so I had 3 people looking at my pubic area, fully invested in what came out and the doctor afterwards thanked me personally, he said not many patients consent to letting junior doctors watch.

Do you think there’s a correlation between using ABs and whether they return?
I’m wondering whether they are more or less likely to return if they get to discharge!

To anyone who’s had an abscess on their boobs……..I feel for you! Only ever had an abscess in my sinuses and that was painful enough, breast abscesses must be excruciatingly painful.

I don't know, but the doctor was pleased when my abscess (not on a breast) started to self-discharge.

Reminds me of when I stopped breastfeeding and there was a white head on my nipple. I squeezed and a long worm of what I assume was congealed breast milk came out. I still think back fondly...
