Pilondial sinus

HermioneIsMyHomegirl · 05/11/2024 19:55

I've been experiencing irritation between my bum cheeks for the last few weeks, which has now started to properly hurt. With the aid of a magnifying mirror and some contortions, I managed to figure out that I have a fissure right at the top of my bum crack. Dr Google informs me that it is a pilondial sinus.

Anyone any experience of these?? Or any ideas of how to deal with it without turning up to the GP & presenting my arse for inspection?

I think it's one of those things that needs proper care unfortunately, get yourself to the GP before it gets worse, and get them to take pictures obvs 😂😉

Wishthiswasntmypost · 05/11/2024 20:06

Surgery is the only answer sorry 🫤

WildCherryBlossom · 05/11/2024 20:52

Surgery is seldom necessary. Antibiotics should help. It can be excruciatingly painful so do see your GP sooner rather than later. They may be able to diagnose based on your description without the need for any arses waving in the air. I hope you start to feel better soon.

mamakoukla · 05/11/2024 20:53

Please go get this seen by a medical dr; it can progress if left uncared for

Spectrum2001 · 05/11/2024 20:59

Get to your GP or even a walk in centre, you need antibiotics. They can be incredibly painful, so treat early!

Meem321 · 05/11/2024 20:59

My son had a pilonidal cyst....so same area and excruciatingly painful. It formed an abscess then exploded...antibiotics sorted it after the A&E nurse manually squeezed out the remaining puss.
I have photos if you'd like 🤣 But seriously, get yourself to the GP. My poor teen was in agony.

BodenCardiganNot · 05/11/2024 21:04

It can be very serious - a neighbour's dd was on the verge of sepsis with one last year and spent 10 days in hospital. Go to the doctor asap.

EBearhug · 05/11/2024 21:08

I agree - needs medical attention. A friend had one, needed hospital treatment.

mamalovebird · 05/11/2024 21:18

Get it seen to asap. I had a pilonidal cyst in when I was seventeen and I only went to A&E as I ended up in so much pain I thought I'd slipped a disc in my back. They admitted me straight away and I had surgery to remove it. It took months to heal. If you can get it sorted with antibiotics, don't wait!

Yes. Of course we would like photos.

Ok, terrifying warnings heeded, I will contact the doctor in the morning! I will get it seen to, I'm one of those who gets infections at the drop of a hat - literally have two healing on my thumb from a paper cut and a prick from a needle (just call me sleeping beauty). So if an infection is likely to happen, I will get one. Hopefully I don't have to wave my arse at anyone!

Yes this can be horrific! My ex DH had it over 30 years ago. He was in so much pain he thought he'd slipped a disc or something really terrible had happened to his spine. He had surgery a few days after he saw his GP - it was literally scooped out and it left a big old hole 😰He then had it 'packed' with an incredibly long piece of gauze that was changed every couple of days until it healed. He needed gas and air when they changed the gauze in hospital and was in for a few days. It took a couple of months to completely heal. Hopefully they do things a little differently now!

mamalovebird · 05/11/2024 22:19

@lightsandtunnels your DH's experience was exactly the same as mine. I had mine 30 years ago too.

Yes. Of course we would like photos.

Photo 1: before I put him to bed with magnesium sulphate and a dressing over it to draw out what we thought might be a boil

Photo 2: 10 hours later in the morning

Photo 3: 5 mins after photo W it spontaneously exploded as I was boiling water to clean it... Oh, the smell. I'll never forget the smell...

Yeah, he's fully aware 🤣
It's not like he's identifiable via the top of his bum crack 🍑

Hohofortherobbers · 06/11/2024 21:23

That is a thing of beauty 😍 (the boil obvs)
