Abscess (pic), should I pop it?

Been directed here from chat…

Very painful abscess on inner thigh developed Sunday evening, saw Dr Monday morning, she prescribed antibiotics which I don’t think is making any difference - red area has grown over last 3 days.

This spot came up today and it getting larger. Do I pop it?

Yes. You will feel so much better!

Orangesandlemons82 · 08/09/2021 21:35

As much as it pains me to say it, don't pop it and get some medical advice. You have had a few days of antibiotics so it should be improving but the red area is increasing in size. It might be worth drawing round the redness with a pen so you can see if it is continuing to grow.

welshweasel · 08/09/2021 22:15

I would. I reckon you’ll find a hair in that!

EL8888 · 08/09/2021 22:16

I would. I would get a warm damp flannel on it and then get busy! But lm a bad influence

L0bstersLass · 08/09/2021 22:42

I'd scrape the top off and then dig about with my tweezers, but I'm a disgrace.
I think taking the top off and letting the contents ooze out will reduce the pain significantly.

ANameChangeAgain · 08/09/2021 22:45

I would just take the top off then use a sterile pad with very hot water to clean it up. It needs to drain.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/09/2021 14:17

Warm flannel/ salt water!

Lavendersquare · 09/09/2021 14:31

I'd try and draw the contents out with a hot flannel, hopefully it will burst and you'll feel relief. Please remember to film or at least photograph the process Grin

Very gentle pulling of skin above…

OMG! Are you ok? Does it feel better? I’m in awe of your photography skills!

JassyRadlett · 09/09/2021 21:01

I love that there was a hushed two minutes of silence after you posted that.

I hope the pain has relieved a bit?

Branleuse · 09/09/2021 21:01

Ohh nice.

anon12345678901 · 09/09/2021 21:03

Ohh does it feel any better? Very good picture

WanderingTrolley1 · 09/09/2021 21:13

Not much else coming out at the moment and there’s still a lot of hardness under the skin, but at least it’s started to erupt… I may stop teasing it now and try again in the morning.

Impressive. I bet there’s a sinewy lump of gunk in there that will come out in the next few hours.

QueenFreesia2021 · 09/09/2021 21:40

Whatever you do, please wash your hands before, don’t use anything that isn’t sterilised - and even better use surgical gloves!

itsgettingwierd · 09/09/2021 21:45

I have one on my pubic bone right by my groin currently.

I've been having baths in salt and gently easing skin around it and it's drained lots.

The bugger kept filling again and had a very obvious tract under the skin and I'm now using hibiscrub and have lymecycline for 3 months.

I tried co amoxiclav and fluclox for weeks before this.

Also you can use magnesium sulphate to draw out any gunk.

Keep it covered too.

Have to say though your photographic skills need even the best parking diagram I've ever seen on here!

itsgettingwierd · 09/09/2021 21:46

This was it somewhere between its worst and best!

catfunk · 09/09/2021 22:05

Phwoar op this has made my night

PLEASE keep it clean though

FrangipaniBlue · 09/09/2021 22:18

Bravo OP Bravo 👏🏼

WanderingTrolley1 · 10/09/2021 12:48

Still oozing watery blood, not so red, still large hard area around it…

Hope you’re okay OP! Definitely make sure everything is sterilised including your hands. Until I read you’d popped it I was on the no pop brigade like the huge liar I am because I’d have been going mental on that.

Can ask all the mag sulphate advocates whether it draws out ordinary zits? Teen sons are at the stage where they are getting painful whiteheads brewing for days. I wondered if mag sulphate could speed things up before a date etc.

Yes it even draws out metal splinters (from personal experience)
boatyardblues · 11/09/2021 15:12

Wow! Thank you.
