Been directed here from chat…

Very painful abscess on inner thigh developed Sunday evening, saw Dr Monday morning, she prescribed antibiotics which I don’t think is making any difference - red area has grown over last 3 days.

This spot came up today and it getting larger. Do I pop it?

I'd say put Savlon on, cover with dressing and leave. It will pop on its own.

Pretty much stopped oozing, but still painful. Does anyone know if this looks normal?

What does it feel like? Is it hot? Does it feel soft or is it a hard lump?

WanderingTrolley1 · 11/09/2021 20:47

It’s no longer hot, but still surrounded under the skin by the hard lump. Still stings, too.

Oh OP that's an absolute cracker.
Keep it very clean, I had a big beast like that under my boob once & had to get antibiotics. Watch out for spreading redness, if u develop a temp or if it's a bit whiffy.

Is the magnesium sulphate supposed to sting like hell (or is it because it’s on a wound)??

I think I'd probably be putting Savlon on it now and covering it as the Mag Sulph has done its job and will be less stingy.

Yes when I used mag sulphate on mine it stung! Actually made a kind of juddery feeling in the muscles but it drew out the funk (until it filled again).

Have you tried a hot bath and massaging the skin around it? Epsom salts are good to use in the bath for abscesses too.

frerecoler · 12/09/2021 21:12

How are you now OP?

WanderingTrolley1 · 13/09/2021 17:30

Thanks for asking, frere.

The antibiotics finished yesterday. I returned to GP this morning as it’s still sore/stinging. He prescribed another week of antibiotics and said if still sore in a week to return and they’d send me to hospital with a letter.

He also said not to cover it or use any creams.

Looks like it is healing nicely but good that you are taking precautions!
