Large Boil

Help I have a large boil, I am on my third night of mag sulphate paste and plaster, but it is so deep and it hurts but it's not being drawn out, what am I doing wrong.

Oh it started as a black head a couple of years ago you can see the hole that that inhabited and which I of course squeezed the buggery out of and then a year ago, it felt like a small hard pea but now it's a chonky 50p sized hard plaque you can feel and my skin is changing colour. Close up picture from last night, it's a little more purple today.

Where is it? Keep a close eye on the redness, these things can easily turn septic.
Is it hard or squishy? If it's hot and tingly could be infected so no more prodding.
If it pops you must record it and post again. Blush

RockPaperScissorLizardSpock · 10/12/2020 00:36

That looks painful! I would get it looked at by a doctor, as it may now require antibiotics. I hope it clears up soon.

EddieBananas · 10/12/2020 00:42

Ouch!

Where is it?

Bathe it in warm water with tea tree oil then cotton wool ball soaked in water with a few tea tree oil drops. I had a horrible boil which was drained under general anaesthetic but kept coming back every now and again. The tea tree oil works really well to draw it out.

It might be a carbuncle and you need urgent treatment. Call your GP or the NHS helpline.

GreyHare · 10/12/2020 10:22

I would feel a fraud going to the doctors as it's not hot, just painful, it's on my side mid way between waist and boob.

Worth getting it checked, Op.

An infection can turn into sepsis which is life threatening. It can happen pretty quick too.

PigletJohn · 10/12/2020 14:07

if it's the size of a 50p piece, I think you will come to regret delay.

I've had one.

picklemewalnuts · 10/12/2020 14:14

I'm sure the GP would rather give ABs now than surgery next week.

Get it seen to.

Or pierce the blackhead with a sterile pin and waggle it around a bit. No don't that would be irresponsible.

PigletJohn · 10/12/2020 16:19

it's Friday tomorrow.

It may very tiresome if you don't get it looked at until monday.

Like I say, I've had one, and I wish I hadn't.

Sosigsandwich · 14/12/2020 19:27

What happened to it @GreyHare??

GreyHare · 14/12/2020 19:48

I'm sorry to hear that but nothing to be done so I will try to put it out of my mind.

GreyHare · 21/12/2020 18:50

Hello, well it has continued to grow and so I admitted defeat and filled out a online form with photographic evidence for the Doctor and am expecting a phone consult tomorrow. look away now if you are a teen bit squeamish

boatyardblues · 21/12/2020 18:56

That must hurt like hell. Hope you get it sorted quickly. 🤞

davekim · 21/12/2020 19:49

That looks incredibly nasty and like you might need AB. You poor thing

RagamuffinCat · 21/12/2020 19:54

You need to draw a line around the red, to see if it spreads further overnight.

HermioneWeasley · 21/12/2020 19:56

Jeez, that has got out of control. Medical attention and weapons grade antibiotics

Holothane · 21/12/2020 20:07

My doctors have very kindly sorted me out some antibiotics so fingers crossed they will calm the angry little blighter down.
