My dd aged 12 has an ingrowing hair on her thigh. It’s become infected and the GP gave her penicillin yesterday. Today it looks worse Confused

Will it pop soon? Disappear? She can’t walk properly, it hurts her too much...

Crikey, look at the hole it left!

How long was the hair? I had an ingrown one on my knee that must have been in there for ages as it was nearly an inch long when i pulled it out.

AGnu · 19/11/2017 18:37

Such a good thread! I can almost feel the relief of getting it out!

Did you identify a hair in it?

Justbookedasummmerholiday · 19/11/2017 18:37

I feel I must confess I have offered dc a financial incentive to let me squeeze a spot!!

cupofteaplease · 19/11/2017 18:38

I haven’t seen a hair in it, strangely? I’ve sent her up to have a hot bath. She’s really been crying!

Poor girl but it should feel better now that it’s popped and she’s on ABs

ShirleyPhallus · 19/11/2017 18:42

Are you sure it’s an ingrown hair? Her legs really don’t look hairy enough for it to be a thick, long one

Any chance it’s an insect bite?

DartmoorDoughnut · 19/11/2017 18:43

Bless her, hope the abx and it popping means less pain!

MissBeehiving · 19/11/2017 18:44

It does look like there’s more to go but disappointingly I suppose the ABs may clear it up.

Reminds me of a large thorn that my Dad had in his knee, that had a slight infection. He showed me after the GP referred him to our local minor injuries clinic because they wouldn’t take it out. I sterilised my special needle and removed it about 3 seconds. He felt so much better 🙂

Taylor22 · 19/11/2017 18:45

This is so so so satisfying.

QuestionableMouse · 19/11/2017 18:48

I'd put money on that not being an ingrown hair now I've seen the other photos. It looks like a bite.

Groovee · 19/11/2017 18:58

Ouch poor thing.

LavenderDoll · 19/11/2017 19:00

Has the hair come out?
Hope she is ok.

picklemepopcorn · 19/11/2017 19:09

Good result! I know advice now is all about getting medical help, but honestly, we all used to sterilise a needle, bathe things with boiled salted water, drain boils etc.

picklemepopcorn · 19/11/2017 19:11

The hydro colloidal plasters are brilliant. They stay on really well, and allow it to heal underneath.

cherrycola2004 · 19/11/2017 19:11

awwww she's been crying, it must feel loads better now. also, great pics! very satisfying result!

EduCated · 19/11/2017 19:17

Ouch! Hopefully feeling a bit better with some of that out. It's huge compared to her leg!

cupofteaplease · 19/11/2017 19:50

She’s out of the bath now. There’s still pus in there, but she said she wants to leave it tonight and try again in the morning.

OP posts:
picklemepopcorn · 19/11/2017 20:03

That's so much better though. You probably don’t need to poke it- there will be inflammation, not just pus. Let it do it’s own thing for a while.

Cottonwoolbawl · 19/11/2017 20:08

Poor dd. Hope she is not in pain - looks so sore :(

Vitalogy · 19/11/2017 20:10

I don't think it's all out OP Sad

MrsMotherHen · 19/11/2017 20:13

That looks so sore. Hope popping has helped some off the pain.

drinkyourmilk · 19/11/2017 20:20

Gosh that looks vicious. Your poor DD! Please can you thank her from all us sporners for letting you take pictures?
Hope it feels far better now the pressure has been released.
Does look like there's more to come Sad (for DD)

Bummybum · 20/11/2017 02:00

I’d say she did definitely need the antibiotics for that. You can see the redness in the surrounding area.

And I say this as someone that’s managed to only use them once ever on ds when he’s been prescribed them a few times.

Poor lass.

MrsUnderwood · 20/11/2017 08:14

If you haven’t found a hair in there then maybe it’s an insect bite. They get infected really easily if you scratch them.

Dozer · 20/11/2017 08:16

Ouch! Poor DD!
