To tie in with their new #FortheSpirited campaign, Silent Pool Gin is on a quest to unearth the UK’s most spirited characters – and the search starts right here. For two months, the award-winning distillers will be celebrating the spirit of Mumsnet by getting you to nominate the users who you think show the most – well – spirit. They'll be giving one bottle of gin per week to a winning Mumsnet user. In addition, if your nominee wins, you'll also receive a shopping voucher worth £30..

Here’s what Silent Pool Gin have to say:
“For the spirited. Three small words that capture the essence of Silent Pool Gin. It represents our independent mindset and our uncompromising commitment to producing a gin with a refreshingly individual character.

For the spirited is about following your own path. Embracing life and living for the best things it has to offer. It’s about doing something kind, inspiring, creative, different. Could be finally handing in your notice, booking that round-the-world trip, starting that new Japanese course or even just deciding to make your very first post on AIBU.

Whatever your version of ‘spirited' is, we applaud you. However, applause only gets you so far, so to officially recognise the wonderful achievements of the Mumsnet community, we are launching the Silent Pool Gin For the Spirited award. Each week, one lucky Mumsnet member will be recognised as a kindred spirit and will win one bottle of Silent Pool Gin.

Also we’d love to hear your spirited stories so please tag us in at #forthespirited @silentpoolgin

There's no such thing as a best Mumsnet user but you probably have your favourite(s). Is there someone: Whose posts you always read? Who brightens your days and whose views keep you glued to the screen? Who has given you priceless advice, yet you wouldn't know from Adam in real life?

Every week for two months, Silent Pool will be giving the #FortheSpirited award to one lucky Mumsnet user – with the prize of a bottle of gin. Simply nominate your favourite Mumsnet user on the discussion thread and they'll be in with a chance of winning. In turn, if your nominee wins, you'll also receive a £30 voucher. Win, win (gin) Gin.

Thanks and good luck!

MNHQ

[EDITED BY MNHQ TO INCLUDE FURTHER DETAILS ABOUT THE DESPATCH OF PRIZES]

Terms and conditions of prize draw:
Activity specific T&Cs: Mumsnet will run a random prize draw once per week. The nominees within the winning entries will be contacted via email or PM to inform them of the win, and to ask if they would like to receive the prize. A non-alcoholic prize will also be available if desired. To receive an alcoholic prize, nominees will need to provide a copy of photographic ID to Mumsnet (eg a photograph of a passport or driving licence), as well as a physical name and address for the prize to be dispatched to. The name and address will be shared with Silent Pool Gin, with the user's permission. Mumsnet will dispose of this information within one week of users' receipt of the prize. Posters of the winning entries will be emailed by Mumsnet to inform them of the win, and to give them the opportunity to choose the voucher they would like. Their name and email address, with the user's permission, will be shared with Mumsnet's voucher fulfilment company for the purposes of ordering the voucher. Voucher winner's details will be retained for audit purposes. Winner's details will be used for the purpose of the prize draw and prize delivery only, and not for any other marketing purpose. Standard Mumsnet T&Cs can be found here.

It's a bit along the lines of popular child at school, advice is subjective, two names who has been nominated a couple of times I've always thought of as being rather bitchy, on the border on bullying behaviour, however seem to have a bit of a fan club, possibly due to a dose of intimidation.

cornflakegirl · 14/07/2019 22:18

Datun for her calm wisdom

foreverhanging · 14/07/2019 22:54

How would I know whether anyone actually drinks? I don't actually know the people I've interacted with here. As an example, not that anyone would vote for me, but I really hate gin and don't drink at home so it would just get given to someone else or stuck in a cupboard. I also know that there are threads on this very forum about trying to be sober and it's maybe a little bit poorly thought through.

That said, if I had to pick someone, I'd say @RandomMess for being nice to me on my thread. But apologies if any of the above applies to you also!

cheeseislife8 · 15/07/2019 01:17

Anyfucker for me also! Wise, clever and blunt af 😁

ChippingInLowCarbing · 15/07/2019 01:26

Is there someone: Whose posts you always read? Anyfucker her never ending quest to help women value themselves & MN cannot say she’s not ‘spirited’! She battles on despite some nasty crap over the years & she’s helped many women out of dreadful relationships

Who brightens your days and whose views keep you glued to the screen? knotty&pistey both - their relentless energy, patience & kindness is outstanding Year on Year they take on more & more (despite actually having busy lives outside of WoollyHugs - they give up their time, (& homes - yarn, SO much yarn) to bring comfort & joy to so many people in times of need, most people couldn’t do what they do -it’s absolutely mammoth!!

BitOfFun has definitely given a lot of good advice over the years. She’s most definitely spirited as well as beautiful inside & out - and she properly deserves Gin.

Who has given you priceless advice, BIWI she saved my sanity (when I was diagnosed with diabetes) & quite feasibly my life. Her Patience & kindness is amazing She’s definitely spirited, especially when she has her stick!

OhYouBadBadKitten not only for her incredible weather threads, but also her quiet determination to right wrongs, help people & go outside her (and most people’s) comfort zone to make a difference in the word she is generous & spirited! She’s one of the ‘quiet ones’ actually changing the world, not just moaning about it & yapping on about what should be done, she’s out there doing it!

& last, but by no means least, is TwitterQueen who, as has been mentioned, is so caring & giving on the cancer support threads despite her own troubles. (Her crochet hook is very spirited too)

There are lots of other incredible spirited posters on MN but I’ve got to stop somewhere 😕

🌷🍫🍰 Gin for everyone else I’d love to nominate

It may be unrealistic (as well as a violation of ASA guidelines) to associate gin-quaffing with being brave and creative and popular, but one thing that the advert at the top of this thread gets right is the association of drinking alcohol with "plucking up the courage to ... post on AIBU".

I can remember plenty of abusive, crazy, ban-worthy and out-of-character posts that were pretty clearly alcohol fueled. In more than a few cases I can remember the poster apologising the day after and explaining that they were drunk.

So perhaps a more honest variation on this competition would be a nomination of your favourite pissed post.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 15/07/2019 07:53

I wouldn't be nominated (only because I NC so much, I'm actually one of the best MNers WinkGrin) but people like me are why this isn't a good idea.

If anyone has seen the Father Ted episode with the Priest Stars in their Eyes drunken host who falls off the wagon? That's what I'm like and that's why I don't drink any more Blush

I would like to think MNHQ would email first to check addresses etc and people could politely decline, but the temptation of free gin...how guilty would MNHQ feel if someone ended up breaking seven years sobriety and having to be shot with a tranquilliser dart

Those two paragraphs don't really go together do they? Wink

DavetheCat2001 · 15/07/2019 07:56

Did I mention @Davethecat2001? 🤭

A gin company would have been a great sponsor for THAT New Year’s Eve.

I always notice & appreciate your posts on FWR & your username is brilliant!

aimingfor2019 · 15/07/2019 08:26

@Pomfluff
For making me aware of a rare link between a medical condition that runs in my family and heart problem symptoms my baby was having.

The doctors didn't have a clue what was going on or where to look, but straight away as I took the information pomfluff gave me they looked into in and knew what to do.
Things are now looking good.
Thank you ThanksThanks

BIWI · 15/07/2019 08:29

That's amazing @Pomfluff Flowers

BIWI · 15/07/2019 08:30

Sorry - I means @aimingfor2019! Blush

(Although also pretty amazing by Pomfluff)

FlibbertyGiblets · 15/07/2019 09:24

aimingfor2019 wow that was brilliant medical sleuthing by Pomfluff. MN is top bananas.

Wrt the point of this thread, two things:

Erm where's my nomination, folks, what with me being not only unbelievably funny, kind and thoughtful but remarkably modest too, hmmmmm?

Secondly, popularity contests are icky.

No gin for you, ptumbi!

ptumbi · 15/07/2019 09:32

Not bothered Fibberty! I'm a vodka girl anyway Grin

My vote for Best MNer would be @FizzyGreenWater. Or SandyY2K but i haven't seen her about recently. I spend most of my time on the Relationships boards and these two (and @AcrossthePond) give excellent advice.

ChippingInLowCarbing · 15/07/2019 09:35

ptumbi

How nasty. Anyfucker gets flak from people like you, but she gets a LOT of thanks from posters she has helped out of abusive relationships & those she’s helped make their relationships better. Yes she’s blunt but that’s what people sometimes need.

& MrsM takes time to be kind to people, why be nasty about it?

BIWI · 15/07/2019 09:37

Nice of you to sneer at another MNetter for sneering @ptumbi Hmm

SoupDragon · 15/07/2019 09:39

Nicely demonstrating why this thread/promotion is a bad idea.

I reported the OP asking if they were coming back to answer the criticisms.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 15/07/2019 09:58

Why thank you Empress, I am also fond of your name Smile

Campervan69 · 15/07/2019 10:01

Datun for me. Has opened my eyes.

00100001 · 15/07/2019 10:01

I wonder how the meeting at MNHQ is going today... :/

Campervan69 · 15/07/2019 10:03

And now I've actually read some of the thread EmpressLesbianInChair because
