Hi MNers!
We wanted to let you know about the Natwest Everywoman Awards which @Carriemumsnet is helping to judge this year as the nomination period has been extended to 9th July. If you're a budding businesswoman (or know someone who is) do consider applying or sending in a nomination.
The awards are in their 16th year and celebrate the success of Britain's top female entrepreneurs at all stages of their journey – from innovative start-ups to established multi-million pound organisations.
A number of prestigious awards are up for grabs including the Brand of the Future Award, given to the founder of a business that shows great potential for growth, and the Woman of the Year Award. The awards are a great way to raise your profile - find out more here.
Good luck!

I was going to ask- what's their definition of businesswoman?

This looks great! NatWest has lots of 'female' on its overview so I think it seriously is designed to boost women. Really looks like a fabulous award. Wish I was an entrepreneur.
(There's a literal in the nominations page - deadlien)
EmpressWeaponisedClitoris · 05/07/2018 05:32
I was sceptical when I clicked on the link but yes - lots of female & not a single self-identifying!
Pratchet · 05/07/2018 05:54
No doubt once someone draws attention to it they'll have to apologise and genuflect.
Middleoftheroad · 05/07/2018 08:04
The definition of woman is under threat from men don't you know.
Will a MN judge judge this fairly? Trans Identifying people have it harder they say.

My first ever post deletion! Badge of honour.....
jollyoldsoul · 05/07/2018 12:15
Why the deletions? Is it for simply asking if this award will actually be for women? Why would I nominate someone without knowing the actual definition of 'business woman' ?
Can MNHQ clarify?
EmpressWeaponisedClitoris · 05/07/2018 12:27
Why are HQ objecting to us wanting to know whether an awards scheme for women is specifically for women?
peachescariad · 05/07/2018 12:59
My first deletion too.....sad times
peachescariad · 05/07/2018 13:01
Empress the deletions probably answer your question

Not sure why the deletions either? The awards for Women Lawyers was open to anyone who claimed the title of woman, not just women.
EmpressWeaponisedClitoris · 05/07/2018 13:53
And Pips Bunce was one of the FT's Outstanding Women in Business.
Whenever I hear of something being for women nowadays, my first response is to wonder whether they mean biological women or just anyone who identifies that way for at least some of the time. And I hate that. I would far rather be able to just assume that "women" means "women". But I've learned through bitter experience that it often doesn't.
So if it genuinely is the case here, then thank you to the organisers. It's appreciated.
Queenofthedrivensnow · 05/07/2018 14:04
I'll try it again. Is this a penis free awRd?
peachescariad · 05/07/2018 15:29
Queen you've mentioned the P word....no biology on here, you know that!!!

I’m not interested in ‘women’s’ awards anymore because anyone can be nominated. It makes the whole thing pointless. Another area where the rights of real women is being eroded.

I don't view it as an even playing field.
If somebody who has transitioned is deemed to have 'something about them' then I question if judges won't view them more favourably because of their 'plight'
We have already seen MN talk about trans having had a much harder time. So how can I trust a MN judge to judge fairly?
