First Time Parents to be - what apps do you want? Share with MN

We're looking to develop further our apps for those joining the truly wonderful world of being a parent for the very first time and - no promises - we'd like to check what sort of content (from articles to specific tools, links and advice) new parents and new parents to be would like to see in the perfect apps for new parents.

Please share your do's and don't's below and we will add them to the list of things to consider/try and squeeze in. If there's an app you love please share what feature gets you giving it 5 stars, or something you'd simply love to see, we'd love to know what it is.

Would be super helpful if your response you could add in the stage of parenthood you're at (from TTCing 1st child to parent of three toddlers etc)

I loved the Ovia app for TTC and then also for pregnancy. Loved the diary system where you can add different types of appointments, photos, scan images, reminders, cravings, key dates and name ideas..etc.
I wish it followed on with baby stages with a similar diary for adding first steps, words, weaning tips (on the pregnancy one it gives you fun things like your baby is the size of a slinky) it would be nice to carry that on (although I know all babies are different).
I am a first time mum (under 1yrs).

1.A reminder to do pelvic floor exercises

1. A number of sleeps until due date countdown timer
2. A relaxation programme (like they use in hypnobirthing
3. A shopping list app with reviews of products

An app like ovia that is less American

Also a way to calculate how many ounces of feed a baby should be getting based on weight. See so many over fed babies with reflux in the gp

A money saving app that compares day to day things like nappies and vitamins, I still have no idea if Asda own vitamins are as good as Pregnacare, or if Lidl nappies are a patch on pampers.

You should also definitely have an app that allows people to upload their test pictures anonymously and for users to vote pregnant or not pregnant

Couldn't the red book be binned and all the information be stored somewhere else. It seems very weird that all of the information about your baby is in paper form! It'd also save the NHS money as he Dr wouldn't have to spend 10 minutes trying to Find the right section, as she did today...

DD is 6 weeks old today

33 weeks pg with first child. LOVE cup of tea's suggestion about varying costs of day to day things. Would like to extend it to cover 'baby set up' costs too. I have been shocked by the amount of choice even on really simple things like cot sheets!! Who knew you didn't just buy a sheet in the right size...

Once I give birth, I'd love something which popped up each week with a brief 'what to expect' this week. I know the books do this, but I can well imagine that I'll be too sleep deprived to look it up. Whereas an app which said 'this week expect roughly 10-12 nappy changes a day, feeding every x amount" etc, would save having to try and find it in the books.

None - I don't have or want a smart phone or use apps!

I know this may be controversial but what I really wanted was a "example" routine app, just something that laid out when feeding should happen, when naps etc. I read a lot of books and the only one that really helped me get an idea was Gina Ford. Now I don't think everyone should follow but I crave an example or routine to help set my own.
I ended up programming a routine app with gina ford's routine but it was hard to do and time consuming.

Apps that track TTC (periods and ovulation) should be able to cope with erratic bleeding and long bleeds. Glow is particularly crap for not letting you record long bleeds.

Some kind of weaning app - I would like one where you could put in what they ate in a day and it would say - bit carb heavy today, offer more fruit tomorrow, for example. Or, offer food more frequently, not enough calories.

Mum to a 5 and 2 yr old and newly pregnant again.

Ds1 is 6 weeks. I agree with app to help calc weight to amount to feedd at the moment (or anything with useful guidance on how much sleep a baby -at x weeks need, what medication you can give, common medical probs (we've had a spell in intensive care for broncheolitia)

Found Ovia app good for pregnancy but since born haven't found anything as good but looking at starting on wonderweeks to see likely growth spurts so something akin to that would be helpful...

An app that allows you to type in a particular food or drink and get (reliable) guidance on safety during pregnancy and precautions to take - have spent far too many meals out, esp in the early months when it is all new, googling to work out what was allowed or not!

I used a brilliant baby routines app for naps when my son was young - you out in the time he woke up and his age and it said when he should sleep!

an dairy app and space in each to write notes.say whe you pout docs appointment in you can add questions to ask,then add notes to come away with.
ap to relax when your heads going crazy.little affirmations. possibly ability in that to save best meditive audios.best lulalbys audios that work.your relaxing tunes.body scan to flip into when times are tough.
the what ifs app and how to focus.when you have a child they have a sniffle and you come up with all sorts of what if! so something to look up common child symstoms or issues.and then eplxanations. then a possible link then to if you need to improtnat nubers like the docs health care etc.

mum and child fun app. things to do in your area together,groups.swimming, clubs.parks to go for walks. local mother baby classes/centres.

stages of your child. but in easy reading form. so long I'm scrolling! I need bullet points I don't have time to turn my eyes away for essays on whats whats. I need it in easy relaxing form.scanable.

do- be helpful thoughtful
don't- make it rigid so unsure mothers will think they are going all worng if what they see on paper isn't what they are doing.

Details of baby development week by week, similar to the Wonder Weeks. This helps mums anticipate the dreaded developmental leaps in advance.
